Stealth F-35 multi-role fighters are high-performance weapon and sensory systems allowing for a penetration into an A2/AD enemy zone guarded by radars and guided missiles. The Czech Republic’s closest zone affected by the A2 / AD concept is Poland largely covered by A2/AD systems from the Russian Kaliningrad region. Following the INF Treaty termination in 2019, it has partially expanded into the Czech Republic, using particularly 9M729 (SSC-8) long-range ground-based guided missiles of Iskander system. Thus, the technical equipment of mechanized (7th MB Hranice) and motorized (4th RFB Žatec) units of the Czech Armed Forces concentrated in the vehicle fleets can be put out of action in a single precise strike. That is one of the reasons why in September 2019 Poland, respecting the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) commitments, decided to procure 32 F-35A fighters. Also, other NATO members can deploy fighters of this type in the area and therefore appropriate measures shall be implemented in the Czech Armed Forces as well to support and fully develop the tactics of the NATO combined air-ground operations.
