a1_Předložený článek navazuje na dvě předešlé autorovy statě otištěné v Soudobých dějinách a uzavírá tento volný cyklus úvah nad povahou komunistického režimu, zejména v Československu. Autor hledá odpověď otázku, zda politický a sociální systém, který byl nastolen v únoru 1948 v Československu, podržel svůj totalitární charakter po celou dobu komunistické vlády, anebo zda v pozdějších fázích už byl jiným typem totality, respektive zda se vyvinul do zcela jiného nedemokratického či autoritativního režimu. Svou úvahu o tomto tématu, které je dosud předmětem sporů, rozvíjí na pozadí proměňujících se teoretických reflexí komunistických režimů. Nejprve připomíná hlavní výtky ''revizionistické'' historiografie vůči nedostatkům klasických modelů totalitarismu, komentuje některé její konkurenční interpretační teze a ukazuje, jak později nové verze teorie totalitarismu některé z ''revizionistických'' výtek problematizovaly či oslabily a jak také reagovaly na změny, jež nastaly po Stalinově smrti. Na základě konfrontace obou přístupů, které existenci totalitarismu buď deklarují a obhajují, či naopak odmítají, nebo alespoň navrhují jeho revizi, sleduje pak návaznost jednotlivých fází, jimiž prošla komunistická diktatura a společnost v Československu mezi lety 1948 a 1989., a2_Jde o pokus zjistit, do jaké míry se proměnily, či naopak zůstaly zachovány struktury a funkce totalitárního způsobu panování (diktatury) z počátečního (poúnorového) období. A současně, jak se během desetiletí měnily, či naopak uchovávaly politické představy a hodnotové systémy ve vědomí společnosti. Konceptuálně přitom autor vychází z vymezení posttotalitarismu v pozdních pracích politologa Juana Josého Linze a po skončení totalitarismu Stalinovy éry rozlišuje v Československu období raného posttotalitarismu, pokus o reformu systému na konci šedesátých let, husákovské období zatuhlého posttotalitarismu a posttotalitarismus úpadku na konci osmdesátých let. The author searches for an answer to the question of whether the political and social system launched in Czechoslovakia in late February 1948 maintained its totalitarian nature throughout its existence or whether, in its later phases, it had already become another type of totalitarianism, or had even developed into a quite different kind of undemocratic or authoritarian régime. The author develops the topic, which is still a matter of dispute, against the background of changing theoretical reflections on Communist régimes. He first recapitulates the main criticism of "revisionist" historiography regarding the lack of classic models of totalitarianism, and he comments on some of their comparing interpretations, pointing out how later versions of the totalitarianism theory problematicized or weakened some of the ''revisionst'' criticisms. and also how they reacted to the changes that began after Slalin´s death in 1953., a2_By comparing the two main approaches, - one that declares that there is such a thing as totalitarianism, the other that rejects such a notion (or at least suggest its revision) - , the author traces the connections between the individual phases that the Communist dictatorship and society passed through in Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1989. He thus seeks to discover the extent to which the preserved structures and operations of the totalitarian way of ruling (dictatorship) changed or remained the same since the initial period (post-February 1948), and, at the same time, endeavours to discover how, over the decades, political ideas and value system were preserved or, by contrast, changed in the consciousness of society. Conceptually, the author starts from the definition of post-totalitarianism which appears in the later works of the political scientist Juan José Linz, and thus, after the end of Stalinist totalitarianism, he distinguishes in Czechoslovakia the period of early post-totaliarianism, the late 1960s attempt to reform the system, the Husák years of hard-line post-totalitarianism, and the post-totalitarianism of the late 1980s decline. Tento sborník vzešel ze série přednášek, kterou v roce 2009 uspořádalo Centrum pro výzkum soudobých dějin (Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung) v německé Postupimi k osvětlení zániku komunistických režimů ve střední a východní Evropě v roce 1989. Recenzent v tematickém průřezu představuje obsah a teze jednotlivých statí, z nichž více než polovina je věnována různým aspektům pádu komunistické diktatury v Německé demokratické republice. Texty potvrzují, že násilí bylo sice konstitutivním prvkem systému až do jeho konce, v důsledku jeho vnitřní slabosti a reformní politiky Sovětského svazu však už nedokázalo zabránit definitivnímu zhroucení a stranické elity se s výjimkou Rumunska ani neodhodlaly sáhnout k jeho plnému nasazení. Tematické vymezení sborníku ovšem ponechává stranou úlohu společnosti, jejíž demokratické složky byly podstatným faktorem nečekaně prudkého kolapsu diktatur., This volume of essays came out of a lecture series organized by the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung, Potsdam, in 2009, which sought to explain the demise of the Communist régimes of central and Eastern Europe in late 1989. The reviewer, in a thematic cross-section, presents the contents and main ideas of the individual articles, more than half of which are about various aspects of the collapse of the Communist dictatorship in the German Democratic Republic. The articles confirm that although violence was an integral element of the system right to the end, because of its internal weaknesses and the reform policies of the Soviet Union it could no longer forestall definitive collapse, and the Party élites, with the exception of those in Romania, did not even try to use force to its full extent.
