An analysis of the bones from the settlement in Brozany nad Ohří (Litoměřice district) dated to the Salzmünde phase of the Funnel Beaker culture revealed standard characteristics for the reconstruction of the paleoeconomic situation and provided information regarding several unusual and interesting finds. There is a distinct predominance of domestic animals over wild species, with cattle being the most prominent domestic species. A total of sixteen species of wild animals were identified. Interesting finds include pig skulls, a complete skeleton of a fox, bones from perhaps synanthropic field mice, a fragment of an eagle bone, a vertebra from a large salmonid fish, scales from asp and chub and an assemblage of eight probably intentionally perforated shells. The skeletal remains of eight puppies were found in two settlement features, and skeletal remains of three newborn humans were also found in two settlement features. The co-occurrence of puppies and newborns in the same context indicates their equal depositional status. The material also contains a number of bone artefacts. and Rozbor kostí pocházejících ze sídliště v Brozanech nad Ohří (okr. Litoměřice), datovaného do salzmündské fáze kultury nálevkovitých pohárů, přinesl jak standardní charakteristiku paleoekonomické situace, tak i informace o několika neobvyklých a zajímavých nálezech. V materiálu výrazně převládají domácí zvířata nad divokými a mezi domácími zvířaty dominuje tur. Divokých živočichů bylo detekováno celkem 16 druhů. Zajímavými nálezy jsou kompletní lebky prasat, skelet lišky, kosti snad synantropních myšic, fragment kosti orla, obratel velké lososovité ryby a kumulace šupin bolena a jelce a soubor osmi perforovaných lastur velevrubů. Materiál obsahuje i soubor kostěných artefaktů.
Problematika kvantifikace archeozoologických nálezů v sobě skrývá jevy, s nimiž je vhodné se obeznámit při vyhodnocování osteologických souborů i při využívání výsledků archeozoologických rozborů. Popsány a srovnány jsou v tomto textu metody: počet kostí/fragmentů (NISP), minimální počet jedinců (MNI), redukovaný počet fragmentů (DZF), váha a další. Cílem není navrhnout novou metodiku, ale zhodnotit význam a použitelnost již existujících metod a upozornit na faktory ovlivňující a zkreslující původní stav, tj. např. původní zastoupení jednotlivých druhů. and The problem of the quantification of archaeozoological finds hides within itself phenomena with which it is advantageous to be acquainted both in the evaluation of osteological assemblages, and in the use of the results of archaeozoological analyses. The following methods are described and compared: number of identified specimens (NISP), i.e. the number of bones/fragments, the minimum number of individuals (MNI), the reduced fragment number (DZF), weight etc. The aim is not to propose a new methodology, but to assess the significance and utility of existing methods, while drawing attention to factors influencing and distorting the original state, i.e. the original representation of individual species for example.
The great importance of the domestic horse in human history and culture has long made it a significant subject of research. The historical role of the horse and new studies and discoveries that are key to understanding its domestication provided the impetus for this paper. The review presents and discusses the current state of knowledge and ideas concerning the origins, domestication, early history, historical roles, and exploitation of this domestic animal from central European and global perspectives. Ecological, biological, phylogenetic, archaeological and historical aspects are combined to explore the issue in a comprehensive manner and to provide insights into various scientific fields and the different regions of Eurasia. and Kůň je s ohledem na jeho podstatný význam v lidských dějinách a kultuře v hledáčku badatelů z různých oborů.
Příspěvek po osteologické a archeozoologické stránce popisuje a analyzuje nález skeletu tura domácího (Bos taurus) z pozdně laténského objektu v Nových Dvorech (okr. Kutná Hora). Tur ve věku 2,5–3 roky byl s největší pravděpodobností do jámy uložen vcelku, tj. v artikulovaném stavu. Součástí osteologického nálezového inventáře jsou i ojedinělé fragmenty kostí prasete a ovce/kozy a artefakt z parohu jelena (Cervus elaphus). and Animal skeleton from a La Tène feature at Nové Dvory, Central Bohemia. The article describes and analyzes the osteological and archaeozoological aspects of a cattle (Bos taurus) skeleton found in a Late La-Tène feature at Nové Dvory (distr. Kutná Hora). The animal of the age of 2,5–3 years was most probably deposited in the pit as a whole, i.e. in articulated condition. Isolated pig and sheep/goat bone fragments and an artefact made out of deer (Cervus elaphus) antler form part of the osteological find inventory.
