Tato definice však nemá reálný základ. and A new analysis of the information used a number of years ago to reconstruct the layout, appearance and typological classification of the royal castle from the second half of the thirteenth century in the town of Písek in south Bohemia reveals the substantial and prevailing reticence in cooperation between architectural historians and archaeologists in the study of historical buildings. The aforementioned reconstruction of the castle is based on findings that are not documented by find contexts, and it is often impossible to differentiate between assertions and hypotheses. The author of the work highlights the problems in the existing evaluations of the preserved parts of the castle core, its relationship to the built-up part of town and even genetic contexts. The castle in Písek was regarded as a primary example of the ‘central European-castel’. However, this definition is lacking a realistic foundation.
Hrady byly rozděleny do tří skupin: hrady přechodného typu, hrady s obvodovou zástavbou a francouzské kastely (např. Navíc i přístup k pramenům a jejich hodnocení, které byly východiskem definice, vykazují zásadní věcné nedostatky. and On castles of the “transitional” type. This article is a contribution in the area of the typology of Bohemian High Medieval castles. The typology of 13th century royal castles in Bohemia was established thirty years ago, on the basis above all of archaeological excavations in the hunting grounds of the Czech kings. Castles were divided into three groups: castles of the transitional type, castles with perimeter buildings and French castels (e.g. Durdík 2002b). The finds situations of these excavations remain to this day unpublished, however. After critiques of the justification for the typological definition of the French castel (Razím 2002; 2005), the author now turns to an evaluation, from the same point of view, of castles of the transitional type, which supposedly stand at the line of division between Early Medieval fortifications and High Medieval castles. Analysis of all of the available information, however, leads to the conclusion that castles of the transitional type have not been justifiably defined. Moreover, even the approaches taken hitherto to the source material, and the evaluation of the latter – which formed the departure point for the definition – exhibit fundamental material shortcomings.
