In the paper a methodology for estimating monthly potential evapotranspiration (E0) as an input for hydrological balance modelling in the upper Hron River basin was developed. Four different methods were used to calculate monthly potential evapotranspiration in 6 climate stations in the basin - the Tomlain method based on equations of energy balance, the FAO method based on equations of radiation balance and empirical parameters, and 2 empirical methods - the Thornthwaite and Ivanov methods. Because of the relatively different results of E0 values estimated by these 4 methods, the physically based Tomlain method was considered as a reference method. Other methods containing empirical parameters were calibrated to estimate E0 with the best agreement to the Tomlain method. Calibration was done for each method and individual climate station, as well as for the whole region and was aimed to find a regional set of parameters for methods of E0 calculation. The method of genetic algorithm was used for the calibration. The efficiency of E0 computed by each of the calibrated methods was compared with the Tomlain method and the results were used for modelling of the hydrological balance in the basin. and Článok opisuje metodiku určovania mesačnej potenciálnej evapotranspirácie (E0) na povodí horného Hrona ako vstupu do hydrologického bilančného modelu s mesačným časovým krokom. Mesačná potenciálna evapotranspirácia je v modeli určovaná jednou zo 4 vybraných metód - metódou založenou na riešení energetickej bilancie, rozpracovanou Tomlainom, FAO metódou založenou na riešení radiačnej bilancie a 2 empirickými metódami výpočtu podľa Ivanova a Thornthwaitea. Podľa uvedených metód bol urobený výpočet E0 v 6 klimatických staniciach na povodí horného Hrona. Pretože metóda výpočtu podľa Tomlaina je založená na riešení rovníc energetickej bilancie, výsledky výpočtu E0 podľa nej boli ďalej považované za referenčné. Ostatné použité metódy, obsahujúce aj rovnice s empirickými parametrami boli kalibrované tak, aby výsledky výpočtu E0 týmito metódami boli v čo najlepšej zhode s výsledkami výpočtu E0 podľa Tomlainovej metódy. Kalibrácia metód na výpočet E0 bola urobená pre každú metódu a stanicu zvlášť. Následne boli pre každú metódu súbežnou kalibráciou vo všetkých staniciach určené regionálne parametre týchto metód, vhodné pre celé povodie. Pri kalibrácii parametrov boli využité metódy genetického algoritmu, ako objektívna funkcia bol použitý Nash-Sutcliffe koeficient. Výsledky výpočtu E0 sú v článku porovnané a využité na modelovanie priemerných mesačných prietokov v záverečnom profile povodia.
In this paper hydrological scenarios of changes in the long-term mean annual and the mean monthly runoff due to the climate change in the upper part of the Hron River basin were evaluated. The Hron river basin was selected as a representative mountainous basin in Central Slovakia. An empirical raster-based and a conceptual hydrological balance model were used for modelling changes in runoff with an annual and monthly time step. Both models were calibrated using data from a standard period 1951-1980, which is considered to be representative for the distribution of runoff in unchanged conditions. Four different climate change scenarios were used in the study. Two scenarios were downscaled from the outputs of the CCCM and GISS Global Circulation Models (GCMs), the others represent analogies with warmer climatic periods in the past. The runoff change scenarios developed for the upper Hron River basin for future time horizons 2010, 2030 and 2075 show the decrease in the long-term mean annual runoff and changes in the runoff distribution within the year. and V článku sú odvodené scenáre zmien dlhodobých priemerných ročných a priemerných mesačných prietokov, vyjadrujúce možný vplyv zmeny klímy na odtok v budúcnosti na povodí horného Hrona. Na modelovanie dlhodobých priemerných ročných prietokov bol použitý rastrovo-orientovaný empirický model hydrologickej bilancie, na modelovanie priemerných mesačných prietokov bol použitý koncepčný hydrologický bilančný model so sústredenými parametrami. Obidva modely boli kalibrované na údajoch z obdobia 1951-1980, ktoré sme považovali za reprezentatívne obdobie pre nezmenené podmienky hydrologického režimu. Ako scenáre zmeny klímy boli použité scenáre CCCM a GISS, regionalizované z najnovších výstupov globálnych cirkulačných modelov atmosféry, a scenáre SD a WP, vyvinuté v rámci Národného klimatického programu SR na základe analógie s teplými obdobiami v minulosti u nás. Scenáre zmeny odtoku, odvodené pre časové horizonty 2010, 2030 a 2075 ukazujú možný pokles dlhodobých priemerných ročných prietokov, ako aj zmenu priemerných mesačných prietokov na povodí horného Hrona v budúcnosti.
The potential impact of climate change on the mean monthly runoff in the upper Hron River basin, which was chosen as a representative mountainous region in Central Slovakia, was evaluated. A conceptual hydrological balance model calibrated with data from the period 1971-2000 was used for modelling changes in runoff with monthly time steps. Changes in climate variables in the future were expressed by two different climate change scenarios developed within the framework of the CECILIA (Central and Eastern Europe Climate Change Impact and Vulnerability Assessment) project. The climate change scenarios were constructed using the pattern scaling method from the outputs of transient simulations made by 2 GCMs - ECHAM4/OPYC3 and HadCM2 (Dubrovský et al., 2005). The runoff change scenarios for the selected basin in the future time horizons of 2025, 2050 and 2100 show changes in the runoff distribution within a year. Changes in the seasonal runoff distribution were compared with previous results (Danihlík et al., 2004), which were achieved with climate change scenarios developed from the outputs of the CCCM97 and GISS98 global circulation models. and Článok sa zaoberá skúmaním vplyvu možnej zmeny klímy na sezónne rozdelenie odtoku na povodí horného Hrona. Na modelovanie priemerných mesačných prietokov bol použitý koncepčný model hydrologickej bilancie v mesačnom kroku, s parametrami kalibrovanými na referenčné obdobie 1971-2000. Zmeny klimatických charakteristík boli vyjadrené podľa 2 klimatických scenárov, spracovaných pre povodie horného Hrona v rámci projektu 6 RP CECILIA (Central and Eastern Europe Climate Change Impact and Vulnerability Assessment). Klimatické scenáre boli spracované na základe výstupov tranzietných simulácií 2 globálnych cirkulačných modelov ECHAM4/OPYC3 a HadCM2 (Dubrovský et al., 2005) pre budúce časové horizonty 2025, 2050 a 2100. Podľa hydrologických scenárov priemerných mesačných prietokov možno v budúcnosti na povodí horného Hrona predpokladať zmeny sezónneho rozdelenia odtoku. Predpokladané zmeny sezónneho rozdelenia odtoku sú konzistentné s výsledkami dosiahnutými v predchádzajúcich prácach (Danihlík et al., 2004), v ktorých boli hydrologické scenáre odtoku na povodí horného Hrona spracované na základe klimatických scenárov, založených na výstupoch globálnych cirkulačných modelov CCCM97 a GISS98.
