Another article is centered on the 600th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus on July 6, 1415. Emerging from this jubilee was a nationwide platform, Jan Hus: A New European Age, with information on all events in the country and available at www.janhus600.cz. Historian Jaroslav Šebek of the CAS Institute of History provides an overview of events in his article showing how Hus’ work has relevance in current society. Czech Academy of Science will start the calibrations of death centenary of Josef Hlavka (1831-1908). Czech architect, builder and patron of Czech science, art and education, was one of the most successful businessman in 19th century. Josef, Maria and Zdenka Hlavka Foundation with Czech Academy of Science have been prepared various kinds of memorial events such as conference on architecture, exhibitions, workshops and other. a1_Poslední část seriálu rekapitulujícího pomocí sond vývoj akademií věd v českých zemí od r. 1890 až po konec 20. stol. přibližuje dopady čistek na přelomu 60. a 70. let 20. stol. na činnost Československé akademie věd (ČSAV). 70. léta 20. stol. znamenala pro ČSAV éru celkového úpadku a stagnace, což souviselo jak s výraznou vlnou odchodu předních vědců do exilu, tak s ideologicky podmíněnou perzekucí mnoha významných osobností zastávajících vedoucí pozice ve vědě do r. 1968 a s politickými zásahy do fungování vědy. Zároveň došlo zejména na počátku 70. let k přetrhání mnoha cenných kontaktů mezi ČSAV a centry světové vědy na Západě. Přesto i v tomto období dokázali někteří vědci přicházet s důležitými objevy a pracovat na skutečně mezinárodní úrovni. Stagnace pokračovala i v první polovině 80. let. K jistému zlepšení došlo až po nástupu M. S. Gorbačova do funkce generálního tajemníka Ústředního výboru KSSS a s tím spojené politiky tzv. přestavby., a2_V ČSAV tyto změny symbolizovala i změna na nejvyšší pozici - v jejím čele stanul chemik Josef Říman. Řada pracovníků ČSAV se na konci 80. let zapojovala do kritiky stávajících poměrů a později také do rozsáhlých protestů proti zásahu policejních složek proti demonstrantům 17. listopadu 1989 na Národní třídě v Praze. Na jednotlivých pracovištích vznikala Občanská fóra a zejména mladší vědci požadovali nejen personální změny, ale také zásadní reformu celé struktury ČSAV. Josef Říman rezignoval a jeho nástupcem se stal vysoce uznávaný chemik Otto Wichterle. Probíhaly velmi intenzivní diskuze o změně podoby ČSAV. Výsledkem se stal návrh zákona o Akademii věd ČR, který parlament schválil v r. 1992. Mimo jiné už nová instituce nepočítala s institucí členů akademie věd a přestala tak plnit úlohu učené společnosti. Tento rok byl také posledním rokem existence společného československého státu - s ním zanikla i Československá akademie věd a její nástupnictví převzala Akademie věd ČR. Na jejím ustavujícím sjezdu na počátku r. 1993 byl do čela zvolen Rudolf Zahradník, který musel především zápolit s dramatickým nedostatkem financí. Situace se v tomto ohledu alespoň krátkodobě zlepšila až v první polovině 21. století., The last part of this series recapitulating the development of the Academy of Sciences in the Czech Lands from 1980 to the end of the 20th century presents the impact of the purges in the early 1970s on the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (CSAS) operations. The 1970s were an era of overall decline and stagnation, due to the emigration of leading scientists, ideologically-based persecution of many prominent figures that held leading positions in science and scholarship until 1968, as well as political interference in the operation of science. At the same time many valuable contacts with centres of world science in the West were broken off. Nevertheless, even in this period some scientists managed to make important discoveries and to work at an international standard. The stagnation carried on into the first half of the 1980s, but some improvements were made after M. S. Gorbachev came to power in the Soviet Union and launched perestroika. At CSAS these changes were symbolized by replacements at top levels, as the chemist Josef Říman took over. At the end of the 1980s a number of CSAS staff took part in criticism of existing conditions and subsequently in extensive protests at police operations against demonstrators on 17th November 1989 in Prague. Civic Forum branches were set up at individual establishments and particularly the younger scientists and scholars demanded personal changes and fundamental reforms in the entire CSAS structure. Josef Říman resigned and was replaced by the highly esteemed chemist Otto Wichterle. Intensive discussions followed on changes in the form of CSAS. Parliament then approved the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) bill in 1992. At the CAS inaugurating congress in early 1993, Rudolf Zahradník was elected a President. The article summarises the known information about the life of the politician and significant bibliophile Veit Ulrich Marschall von Ebnet (ca 1565 - ca 1625). Based on the provenance research into Lipník nad Bečvou and Mikulov castle libraries, the National Museum Library and other collections as well as auction catalogues, the paper lists the identified books from his library, describes Marschall’s armorial bindings and other provenance marks, on the basis of which it attempts to characterise the content of this extraordinary library. and Miroslav Koudela, Petr Mašek.
