An international philosophical conference Jan Patočka 1907-1977 between 22nd-28th April 2007 was dedicated to the most important Czech philosopher of the 20th century. The symposium, honoring this victim of the communist regime and student of Professors Husserl and Heidegger, took place in Karolinum, seat of the Charles University rectorate. Scholars from around the world explored Jan Patočka´s work and the significance of its continuing influence on contemporary philosophy. Drahomír Hnyk of the CAS Institute of Inorganic Chemistry is one of the editors of this book, the other being Michael L. McKee. The book reviews the recent developments in boron chemistry, emphasizing in particular the contribution of computational chemistry. Chemists from Europe, the USA and Asia have contributed to this 239page book. Sixty percent concentrates on theoretical and computational themes with 40 percent on topics of interest to experimental chemists. Účelem každoroční mezinárodní konference o optice pro rentgenovou astronomii AXRO (International Workshop on Astronomical X-Ray Optics) jsou přednášky a následné diskuse o technologiích pro astronomická pozorování v rentgenovém oboru spektra. Sympozium, které se konalo 8.-11. prosince 2014 v pražské vile Lanna za účasti 40 odborníků z EU, USA, Ruska, Číny, Saúdské Arábie a Japonska, prokázalo důležitost propojování základního a aplikovaného výzkumu. The Academy Assembly, the Academy of Science´s highest body responsible for the highest priority decisions related to the ASCR, held its XXXIX meeting on December 16, 2011.
