Bronzová socha: nahý Merkur (okřídlená čapka a boty) drží v náručí nahou Psyché, která drží v pravé vztyčené ruce flakón (pyxis Proserpinae), pro který ji poslala do podsvětí Venuše. and Sousoší odkazuje na Apuleiova Zlatého osla, v němž Jupiter přikázal Merkurovi, aby unesl Psýché na nebesa (Apul. met. 6, 23: ilico per Mercurium arripi Psychen et in caelum perduci iubet). Současně je sousoší alegorií cesty k nesmrtelnosti. Obdobné téma Vries pojednal již v roce 1590-1592 (Drottningholm, Vries, Apotheosa Psyche).

Na oblacích sedí Jupiter (orel, okřídlený blesk), vedle něj Amor (luk)., Kaufmann 1988#, 20.3., and Obraz odkazuje na Apuleiovy Proměny čili Zlatého osla (6, 16-23), v němž Jupiter rozhodl, že Psýché má být odnesena na nebesa, aby se stala bohyní.
