International Oral History Association and the Czech Oral History Association jointly sponsored a conference, Between Past and Future: Oral History, Memory and Meaning, held in Prague from 7 to 11 July, 2010. Oral history is a growing specialty within the field of history: new methods, technologies and approaches as well as innovative perspectives and areas of research place it among the discipline’s most dynamic specializations. Czechoslovak Society of Sciences and Arts (SVU), an organization dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, the free dissemination of ideas, and the fostering of contacts among people, held its world congress from June 27 to July 2 in Tábor. The Society was organized in 1958, at the initiative of Czech and Slovak intellectuals living abroad. The central theme of the Congress, Contribution of Czechs and Slovaks to Science and Technology of the 21st Century, brought together scholars, scientists, artists, politicians and others from many parts of the world who have an interest in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. and Libor Grubhoffer.
