The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (AS CR) established a new public research institution, the Institute of Biotechnology AS CR, v. v. i. The primary ambition of this new institute is to develop cutting-edge basic and oriented research on topics opening for diagnostic and therapeutic applicatons in human medicine. In particular, the institute was established to serve as a nucleation center of BIOCEV, the joined Biotech & Biomed Research Center of the Academy of Sciences with Charles University, to be built at Vestec near Prague by the year 2012 with the support of the European Regional Development Funds in frame of the Operational Program R&D for Innovation., Peter Šebo, -red-., and Tři otázky pro ředitele připravila -red-

The purpose of this Summer School, which took place in Liblice 1 to 7 September 2008, was to introduce the students and post-docs to updated procedures used in the analyses of molecular data-sets applied to problem-solving in conservation genetics. This was done by bringing together geneticists statisticians and empirical conservation geneticists who presented theoretical lectures and led practical computer work. and Josef Bryja, Pavel Munclinger.
22nd Annual Mammalian Genome Conference took place in the new edifice of the Institute of Molecular Chemistry AS CR, v. v. i., in Prague. The symposium was aimed at dissiminating research news on the topic mammalian genomes, epigenomes and phenotypes. It began with Bioinformatics speakers folowed by a Student Satellite Meeting and it continued with a number of sessions. and Jiří Forejt.
