- Description:
- Zeolites are some of the most important solids in modern technology and the search for new types of zeolite and new methods of making zeolites remains at the forefront of research. Recently, we have developed a new synthetic strategy called ADOR (Assembly-Disassembly-Organization-Reassembly). This strategy starts from germanosilicate zeolites being vulnerable to hydrolysis providing zeolites layers of the original structure. Appropriate manipulation with the layers connected with intercalation chemistry and followed by their condensation resulted in the synthesis of six new zeolites, some of them being considered as "unfeasible" due to the high energy of their frameworks. Basic principles of ADOR chemistry are described in this short overview. and Pavla Eliášová, JIří Čejka, Petr Nachtigall.

- Description:
- Dne 9. července 2014 jsme na říčním kilometru 77,88 řeky Moravy prokázali výskyt raka bahenního (Astacus leptodactylus). Pozorováni byli celkem čtyři dospělí jedinci, dvě samice a dva samci. Celková délka těla jedinců se pohybovala v rozmezí 71-75 mm a délka hlavohrudi 34-42 mm. Raci byli nalezeni v kamenité části pravého břehu toku na úseku dlouhém přibližně 5 m. Jde o první nález tohoto druhu v řece Moravě na území České republiky., On 9th of July, 2014, we recorded for the first time the occurrence of Astacus leptodactylus in the River Morava (along 77.88 km of the river). We observed four adults, two females and two males. Total body length of these individuals ranged between 71 and 75 mm, with the carapace 34-42 mm long. Crayfish were found in the rocky part on the right bank of the stream in an area approximately 5 m long., and Lukáš Jurek, Martin Chytrý.

- Description:
- The respiratory system is constantly exposed to pathogens which enter the lungs by inhalation or via blood stream. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), also named endotoxin, can reach the airspaces as the major component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, and lead to local inflammation and systemic toxicity. LPS affects alveolar type II (ATII) cells an d pulmonary surfactant and although surfactant molecule has the effective protective mechanisms, excessive amount of LPS interacts with surfactant film and leads to its inactivation. From immunological point of view, surfactant specific proteins (SPs) SP-A and SP-D are best characterized, however, there is increasing evidence on the involvement of SP-B and SP-C and certain phospholipids in immune reactions. In animal models, the instillation of LPS to the respiratory system induces acute lung injury (ALI). It is of clinical importance that endotoxin-induced lung injury can be favorably influenced by intratracheal instillation of exogenous surfactant. The beneficial effect of this treatment was confirmed for both natural porcine and synthetic surfactants. It is believed that the surfactant preparations have anti-inflammatory properties through regulating cytokine production by inflammatory cells. The mechanism by which LPS interferes with ATII cells and surfactant layer, and its consequences are discussed below., M. Kolomaznik, Z. Nova, A. Calkovska., and Obsahuje bibliografii

- Description:
- Major depressive disorder is associated with abnormal autonomic regulation which could be noninvasively studied using pupillometry. However, the studies in adolescent patients are rare. Therefore, we aimed to study the pupillary light reflex (PLR), which could provide novel important information about dynamic balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system in adolescent patients suffering from major depression. We have examined 25 depressive adolescent girls (age 15.2±0.3 y ear) prior to pharmacotherapy and 25 age/gender-matched healthy subjects. PLR parameters were measured separately for both eyes after 5 min of rest using Pupillometer PLR-2000 (NeurOptics, USA). The constriction percentual change for the left eye was significantly lower in depressive group compared to control group (-24.12±0.87 % vs. - 28.04±0.96%, p˂0.01). Furthermore, average constriction velocity and maximum constriction velocity for the left eye were significantly lower in depressive group compared to control group (p˂0.05, p˂0.01, respectively). In contrast, no significant between-groups differences were found for the right eye. Concluding, this study revealed altered PLR for left eye indicating a deficient parasympathetic activity already in adolescent major depression. Additionally, the differences between left and right eye could be related to functional lateralization of autonomic control in the central nervous system., A. Mestanikova, I. Ondrejka, M. - Description:
- This work discusses the clinical performance of chromogranin A, free metanephrine and normetanephrine determination in plasma using a radioimmunoanalytical methods for the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. Blood samples were collected from 55 patients (46 pheochromocytomas, 9 paragangliomas). A sampling of biological materials was performed preoperatively and about one week, six months and one year after adrenal gland surgery. The comparative group without a diagnosis of pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma consisted of 36 pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma patients more than 4 months after adrenal gland surgery, and of 87 patients, 16 of them with multiple endocrine neoplasia, 9 with medullary and 5 with parafolicullar carcinoma of the thyroid gland. The rest were patients with various adrenal gland disorders. Chromogranin A, metanephrine and normetanephrine were determined in the EDTA-plasma using a radioimmunoassay kits Cisbio Bioassays, France and IBL International GmbH, Germany. Clinical sensitivity was 96 % for the combination of metanephrine and normetanephrine, and 93 % for chromogranin A. Clinical specificity was 100 % for the combination metanephrine and normetanephrine, and 96 % for chromogranin A. Falsely elevated levels of chromogranin A were observed in 1 patient with chronic renal insufficiency and 9 analyses were influenced by the administration of proton pump inhibitors. These results were excluded of CGA specificity. Both the combination of plasma free metanephrine, normetanephrine and chromogranin A as determined by radioimmunoassays, which are simple without the necessity of special laboratory material, are effective markers of pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma. Chromogranin A exerts association to malignity and all markers are associated with tumor mass., R. Bílek, T. Zelinka, P. Vlček, J. Dušková, D. Michalský, K. Novák, E. Václavíková, J.
