- Description:
- The objective of this paper is to examine the development of the urban form of the city of Olomouc since the 1920s in terms of fractal dimension, and to link the observation with two other descriptors of shape - area and perimeter. The fractal dimension of built-up areas and fractal dimension of the boundary of the city are calculated employing the box-counting method; the possibilities of their interpretation and usage in urban planning are discussed. The process of urban growth is observed with respect to its fractality and perspectives of this approach are discussed. An interesting dependence between area and its fractal dimension is derived.

- foam core sandwich beam, mixed-mode II/III crack, linear-elastic fracture mechanics, and strain energy release rate
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- Fracture behavior of foam core composite sandwich Split Cantilever Beam (SCB) loaded in torsion was analyzed theoretically using the apparatus of linear-elastic fracture mechanics. A loading method is proposed to create two transverse forces of identical magnitude which load the beam in torsion. In this way, mixed-mode II/III crack loading conditions were induced. A three-dimensional finite element model was developed for simulating the mechanical response of the sandwich SCB. The strain energy release rate was used as a fracture characterizing parameter. The analysis by virtual crack closure technique revealed that the strain energy release rate mode components were distributed non-uniformly along the crack front through the width of the sandwich SCB. The relation between the fracture behavior and the sandwich core material was studied. For this purpose, three foam core composite sandwich SCB configurations (with three different rigid celullar foams used as core material) were simulated. It was found that the fracture behaviour of the sandwich beam can be improved by using foams with higher density as a core material. and Obsahuje seznam literatury

- Description:
- Selected mechanical properties of unidirectional composites with polysiloxane-derived matrix and continuous basalt fibres reinforcement are presented. A special attention is devoted to the impact of long term exposition in hot air (aimed as a simulation of the anticipated operating conditions) to the composite failure under flexural load. The investigated composites worsened their properties after treatment in air at elevated temperature (650 - 750 °C). The originally non-catastrophic flexural failure changed to a brittle fracture, which was accompanied with a flexural strength decrease. The coalescence of fibres and their strong interaction with the matrix are probably the main reasons for the onset of brittleness. Unless these drawbacks are resolved the service temperature of the composites in air will probably not exceed approximately 500 °C., Petr Glogar, Martin Černý and Zdeněk Tolde., and Obsahuje bibliografii

8717. Fragmentární poetika pozdního Halase

- Description:
V tomto závěrečném období tvorby se tak pozornost postupně přesunula od aktu zveřejnění na samotný tvůrčí proces, akt zveřejnění ztratil rysy původního posvěcení, neboť daleko podstatnější bylo pro Halase „psát sám sebe“, bez ohledu na výsledek. and This article is a work of textual criticism focusing on the fragmentary style of František Halas’s (1901–1949) late verse. The focus is on Halas’s canonical texts and also on sketches, fragments, and notes, which have tended to be of marginal interest to the reader. The author asks whether these fragments and projects (for instance ‘Potopa’ and ‘Hlad’) are merely peripheral to Halas’s oeuvre, or whether they actually contain substantial information about his late style, which could help us to understand his way of generating texts other than what we know from his works between the wars. Linked to this is a question of textual criticism, the ‘act of publishing’, by which we distinguish causal and intentional aspects in the process of textualization and also distinguish the psychophysical subject from the subject of the work. In certain circumstances fragments, sketches, and variants cross the boundary from the genetic (causal) to generative (intentional) order in the act of textualization, and thereby begin to share in the formation of the semiotic construct of the ‘persona’. In the course of textualization, the poet usually endeavours to achieve the resulting invariant, that is, the most perfect possible form of the text, which eventually shifts all the preceding creative variants aside as inferior. Only the resulting form of the poem is intended for publication. Whereas the generation of texts in Halas’s interwar period still took place according to this model, in the course of the 1940s the situation radically changed. Using montage and especially collage and also syntactical fragmentation, the emphasis on metonymy and also intertextual relations, Halas managed to include fragments in the creative process. Formal aspects of the fragments, however, are also incorporated in the central compositions of the collection A co? (So what?, 1957) – for example, the texts ‘Citáty’ (Quotations), ‘Dolores’, ‘Až bomba praskne’ (When the Bomb Bursts), ‘Přejme jim to’ (Let’s Grant Them That), and ‘A co básník’ (And What the Poet). The means of generating the late texts is therefore closely linked also to the late fragments, which Halas jotted down in notepads. In this last period of his work Halas’s attention gradually shifted from the act of publishing to the creative process itself. The act of publishing lost the features of the original devotion, because he found it much more important ‘to write himself’, regardless of the results.

- Description:
- High resolution white light and Hα observations carried out at the Observatorio del Teide (Tenerife) witli the 40 cm Vacuum Telescope of the Kiepenheuer Institute (FRG), allow us to study the processes taking place during the development of 15 large active regions (flux larger than 5x1021Mx). The behaviour of the magnetic fragments which coalesce to form the mature spots, inform us about the nature of the subphotospheric flux rope. The following are the main findings; (i) Fragments with typically 1021Mx preserve their identity and even survive to the decay of the sunspots. (ii) Each fragment has a very precise location in the whole ensemble. (iii) The incomplete coalescense of the fragments leaves interstices which are penetrated by hot gas. Tfiis gives a natural explanation of the umbral fine structures (ie. umbral dots and light bridges).
