Oocysts/sporocysts of Sarcocystis sp. were found in the intestinal contents of the smooth snake, Coronella austriaca I .aurenti. Common voles Microtus arvalis (Pallas), bank voles Clethrionomys glareolus (Schreber), green lizards Lacerta viridis (Laurcnti), and common wall lizards Podarcis muralis (Laurenti) were experimentally inoculated as potential intermediate hosts. Only common wall lizards were found to be susceptible intermediate hosts. Transparent, macroscopically hardly visible sarcocysts found in tail striated muscles of lizards were 480 (390-640) x 210 (190-230) pm in size 72 days post-infection. Using the light microscopy, the sarcocyst wall was about 1 pm thick with an apparent layer of villi approx. 2 pm thick. Ullraslruclurally, the primary cyst wall was characterised by spine-like villar protrusions up to 2.5 pm in length and 0.5 pm in diameter. Based on sarcocyst morphology and experimental data, the discovered Sarcocystis species is suggested to be conspccific with Sarcocystis lacertae Babudieri, 1932. A redescription of Sarcocystis lacertae is presented in this study.
We consider quasirandom properties for Cayley graphs of finite abelian groups. We show that having uniform edge-distribution (i.e., small discrepancy) and having large eigenvalue gap are equivalent properties for such Cayley graphs, even if they are sparse. This affirmatively answers a question of Chung and Graham (2002) for the particular case of Cayley graphs of abelian groups, while in general the answer is negative., Yoshiharu Kohayakawa, Vojtěch Rödl, Mathias Schacht., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Let $G$ be a locally compact group and let $1 \le p < \infty.$ Recently, Chen et al. characterized hypercyclic, supercyclic and chaotic weighted translations on locally compact groups and their homogeneous spaces. There has been an increasing interest in studying the disjoint hypercyclicity acting on various spaces of holomorphic functions. In this note, we will study disjoint hypercyclic and disjoint supercyclic powers of weighted translation operators on the Lebesgue space $L^p(G)$ in terms of the weights. Sufficient and necessary conditions for disjoint hypercyclic and disjoint supercyclic powers of weighted translations generated by aperiodic elements on groups will be given., Liang Zhang, Hui-Qiang Lu, Xiao-Mei Fu, Ze-Hua Zhou., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
Mechanism responsible for the en largement of end-expiratory lung volume (EELV) induced by chronic hypoxia remains unclear. The fact that the increase in EELV persists after return to normoxia suggests involvement of morphological changes. Because hypoxia has been also show n to activate lung mast cells, we speculated that th ey could play in the mechanism increasing EELV similar role as in vessel remodeling in hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH). We, therefore, tested an effect of mast cells degranulation blocker disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) on hypoxia induced EELV enlargement. Vent ilatory parameters, EELV and right to left heart weight ratio (RV/LV+S) were measured in male Wistar rats. The experimental group (H+DSCG) was exposed to 3 weeks of normobaric hypoxia and treated with DSCG during the first four days of hypoxia, control group was exposed to hypoxia only (H), two others were kept in normoxia as non-treated (N) and treated (N+DSCG) groups. DSCG treatment significantly attenuated the EELV enlargement (H+DSCG=6.1 ± 0.8; H=9.2 ± 0.9; ml ± SE) together with the increase in minute ventilation (H+DSCG=190 ± 8; H=273 ± 10; ml/min ± SE) and RV/LV+S (H+DSCG=0.39 ± 0.03; H=0.50 ± 0.06)., H. We aimed to determine the impact of Ca2+-related disorders induced in intact animal hearts on ultrastructure of the cardiomyocytes prior to occurrence of severe arrhythmias. Three types of acute experiments were performed that are known to be accompanied by disturbances in Ca2+ handling. Langedorffperfused rat or guinea pig hearts subjected to K+-deficient perfusion to induce ventricular fibrillation (VF), burst atrial pacing to induce atrial fibrillation (AF) and open chest pig heart exposed to intramyocardial noradrenaline infusion to induce ventricular tachycardia (VT). Tissue samples for electron microscopic examination were taken during basal condition, prior and during occurrence of malignant arrhythmias. Cardiomyocyte alterations preceding occurrence of arrhythmias consisted of non-uniform sarcomere shortening, disruption of myofilaments and injury of mitochondria that most likely reflected cytosolic Ca2+ disturbances and Ca2+ overload. These disorders were linked with non-uniform pattern of neighboring cardiomyocytes and dissociation of adhesive junctions suggesting defects in cardiac cell-to-cell coupling. Our findings identified heterogeneously distributed high [Ca2+]i-induced subcellular injury of the cardiomyocytes and their junctions as a common feature prior occurrence of VT, VF or AF. In conclusion, there is a link between Ca2+-related disorders in contractility and coupling of the cardiomyocytes pointing out a novel paradigm implicated in development of severe arrhythmias., N. Left atrial (LA) volume (LAV) is used for the selection of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) to rhythm control strategies. Calculation of LAV from the LA diameters and areas by two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography may result in significant error. Accuracy of atrial volume assessment has never been studied in patients with long-standing persistent AF (LSPAF) and significant atrial remodeling. This study investigated correlation and agreement between 2D echocardiographic (Simpson method) and electroanatomic (CARTO, Biosense Webster) left and right atrial (RA) volumes (LAVECHO vs. LAVCARTO and RAVECHO vs. RAVCARTO) in patients undergoing catheter ablation for LSPAF. The study enrolled 173 consecutive subjects (females: 21 %, age: 59±9 years). There was only modest correlation between LAVECHO (92±31 ml) and LAVCARTO (178±37 ml) (R=0.57), and RAVECHO (71±29 ml) and RAVCARTO (173±34 ml) (R=0.42), respectively. LAVECHO and RAVECHO underestimated LAVCARTO and RAVCARTO with the absolute bias (±1.96 standard deviation) of -85 (-148; -22) ml and -102 (-169; -35) ml, respectively, and with the relative bias of -48 (-75; -21) % and -59 (-88; -30) %, respectively (all P<0.000001 for their mutual difference). Significant confounders of this difference were not identified. In patients with LSPAF, 2D echocardiography significantly underestimated both LA and RA volumes as compared with electroanatomic reference. This disagreement was independent of clinical, echocardiographic and mapping characteristics., L. Škňouřil, Š. Klíčová slova: dispenzarizace – karcinom prsu – komplikace, In the Czech Republic 7076 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in 2011 (132 per 100,000 women). The majority of these patients will achieve long-term complete remission (“cure”) after cancer treatment. However, they still face the risk of long-term complications caused by cancer therapy as well the recurrence of malignancy. Long-term follow-up of patients with breast cancer is an area of interest not only for oncologists, but also for gynecologists, general practitioners, and surgeons. Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic disease caused by the tapeworms of the Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato complex, which have worldwide distribution. No data on the circulation of genotypes of the E. granulosus complex in intermediate hosts in endemic areas in Calabria are available. The aims of our study were to evaluate the dispersal of genotypes of the E. granulosus complex in Calabria and to characterise parasite isolates by Sanger sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. We collected 71 animal samples from pigs, wild boars, sheep, cattle and goats. The first PCR screening analysis targeted three partial genomic regions: the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1), calreticulin protein (cal) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (nad1); this identified 28 parasitic cysts. Bidirectional sequencing of cox1 amplicons and phylogenetic analysis allowed us to characterise all isolates. Molecular analyses of 28 newly generated cox1 sequences revealed that most wild boars (n = 16) and three pigs were parasitised by the larval stage of Taenia hydatidena Pallas, 1766, called cysticercus tenuicollis. Two isolates from wild boars were identified as Echinococcus canadensis Webster and Cameron, 1961 (G7), while five sheep and two goats were infected with E. granulosus G1 (sheep strain) and G1 microvariant (previously reported as G2 genotype or Tasmanian sheep strain), respectively. These molecular findings should prompt further and more extensive studies, to elucidate regional transmission patterns and to guide control programs., Grazia Pavia, Federica De Gori, Lucia Ciambrone, Natalino De Gori, Rosanna Musarella and Francesco Casalinuovo., and Obsahuje bibliografii
a1_We hypothesize that hypokalemia-related electrolyte imbalance linked with abnormal elevation of intracellular free Ca2+ concentration can cause metabolic disturbances and subcellular alterations resulting in intercellular uncoupling, which favor the occurrence of malignant arrhythmias. Langendorff-perfused guinea pig heart (n = 44) was subjected to a standard Tyrode solution (2.8 mmol/l K+) followed by a K+-deficient solution (1.4 mmol/l K+). Bipolar ECG of the left atria and ventricle was continuously monitored and the incidence of ventricular fibrillation was evaluated. Myocardial tissue sampling was performed during stabilization, hypokalemia and at the onset of fibrillation. Enzyme activities of succinic dehydrogenase, glycogen phosphorylase and 5-nucleotidase were determined using in situ catalytic histochemistry. The main gap junction protein, connexin-43, was labeled using mouse monoclonal antibody and FITC conjugated goat antimouse antibody. Ultrastructure was examined by transmission electron microscopy. The free Ca2+ concentration was measured by the indo-1 method in ventricular cell cultures exposed to a K+-free medium. The results showed that sustained ventricular fibrillation appeared within 15-30 min of low K+ perfusion. This was preceded by ectopic activity, episodes of bigeminy and tachycardia. Hypokalemia induced moderate reversible and sporadically irreversible subcellular alterations of cardiomyocytes and impairment of intercellular junctions, which were heterogeneously distributed throughout myocardium. Patchy areas with decreased enzyme activities and diminished immunoreactivity of connexin-43 were found. Furthermore, lack of external K+ was accompanied by an increase of intracellular Ca2+. The prevention of Ca2+ overload by either 1 mmol/l Ni2+ (Na+/Ca2+ inhibitor), 2.5 mmol/l verapamil, 10 mmol/l d-sotalol or 10 mmol/l tedisamil was associated with the protection agains fibrillation., a2_The results indicate that hypokalemia induces Ca2+ overload injury and disturbances in intercellular coupling. Dispersion of these changes throughout the myocardium may serve as the basis for microreentry circuits and thus favor fibrillation occurrence., N. Tribulová, M. Manoach, D. Varon, L. Okruhlicová, T.
