Autor načrtává mnohem různorodější a rozpornější obraz reality, než odpovídá zavedeným mýtům o policii ve velkém a dobrovolně kolaborující s režimem ve Vichy i s Němci, o její zbabělosti a setrvalém propojení se zločinem., The reviewer provides an account of interpretations of the British historian; he sees their main contribution in rich facts based on a thorough study of French archival documents and a novel angle of view unburdened by extensive and often heater discussions over phenomena of resistance and collaboration in the French histography and society. In the interviewer´s opinion, the book´s strenghts also include an interdisciplinary approach combining social history, everydayyhistory and police history with the so-called great political history. The author drafts a much more diverse and disparate picture of reality than that suggested by established myths about the police force extensively and voluntarily collaborating both with Germans and the Vichy regime, about the cowardice of police officers and their permanent links to the world of crime., [autor recenze]. The paper discusses the uses of the concept of the political in both feminist political theory and mainstream postfoundational political theory, and its implications for feminist political theorizing today. In feminist theory, the concept primarily emerged as a counter -reaction to the disputed foundations of feminism, the subject of women. The political was identified with contingency and contingent foundations; however, no thorough exploration of the term was carried out within the field of feminist theorizing. The mainstream postfoundational political theory rests in identifying political difference, i.e. a difference between the ontic level of politics and its foundations on ontological level. I introduce Mouffe’s notion of agonism as an exemplary normative theory of political difference. Next to it I juxtapose Jacques Rancière’s approach which attempts to undermine the distinctions on which ontological political differences are based. His account of politics seems to point beyond ontologization of politics and, instead, focuses on the immanent plane of politics, in which the given, the visible can be merely recomposed. In conclusion I link his account to that of Linda Zerilli’s political judgment, and argue for a feminist political philosophy and theory without the need for a purified founding concept of the political., Ľubica Kobová., and Obsahuje bibliografii
The article sets out to compare the political culture and civic participation of populations in selected regions in the Czech Republic using data from the survey 'The Influence of Region-Specific Factors on the Formation of the Political Outlook of Voters', which was conducted by the Institute of Sociology in 2000-2002. The fundamental question it poses is whether the populations in selected regions differ in terms of their patterns of political culture and level of civic participation. Almond and Verba's classic definition of types of political culture is supplemented with one more type - alienation. This leads to four quantitative variables for defining the pattern of the population's mixed political culture. The level of civic participation is defined as the number of memberships in voluntary organisations. The results show that the pattern of political culture in the selected regions is almost identical. The regions do not even differ in terms of the amount of membership in voluntary civic organisations, that is, in the level of civic participation. The article concludes that in terms of political culture and civic participation the Czech Republic is quite homogeneous and is a suitable territorial unit for comparisons of political culture.
The article is based on the importance of the political culture in czech public opinion. Following the data obtained at Public Opinion Research Centre´s polls the author analyse how critical are czech citizens when talking about political culture of most of politically active people. The fi rst part of the article is devoted to the explanation of the concept of political culture and its use in sociological and politological theory., Markéta Škodová., and Seznam literartury
Ve své práci přitom přináší množství cenných poznatků k řadě dalších historických témat, jako je pražská komunální politika a systém sociální péče v období první Československé republiky, a zejména dějiny československého poúnorového exilu., According to the reviewer, the author of this the first biography of Petr Zenkl (1884-1975) has fully succeeded in meeting his aim of giving the reader a good picture of Zenkl´s political and personal life, while critically assessing them, and presenting the intellectual framework that shaped Zenkl´s actions. Readable, clear, and well informed, the book describes the course of Zenkl´s life from his rise in Prague local politics between the two world wars, and when he reached his political peak as mayor from April 1937 to February 1939 and from August 1945 to May 1946 (his two terms as Mayor separated by his year as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps), his post-war power struggle with the Communists when he was chairman of the Czechoslovak National Social Party and deputy premier in the National Front government, followed by his defeat in the political crisis of February 1948 and then his escape to America, where he worked for twenty years in senior posts in Czechoslovak exile organizations, for instance, as chairman of the exile Council of Free Czechoslovakia. The book, according to the reviewer, provides much valuable information on a number of other historical topics, including Prague local politics, the social security system of the first Czechoslovak Republic, and, in particular, the history of Czechoslovak exiles after February 1948., [autor recenze] Ondřej Koutek., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
The paper focuses on gender equality policy in education. It aims to rectify the fact that theoretical concepts of gender equality receive little attention in the Czech Republic, both within academic discussion and in practical political discourse. In general, gender equality can be defined in three different ways: equality in approach, equality in opportunities, or equality in results. Furthermore, we can distinguish between gender sensitivity and gender neutrality. All alternatives have their weak and strong sides which are discussed in the paper. An effective school policy cannot make do without a deep understanding of these issues, which helps explain why the Czech version of gender equality policy is so inefficient in spite of some positive changes in the past few years. Gender equality is incorporated in school policies mostly in a formal manner that shows little concern or/and no understanding of the latent aspects of gender equality., Irena Smetáčková., and Obsahuje bibliografii
From the 1960s to the 1990s, Petr Pithart (b. 1941) was a leading dissident. After the Changes beginning in late 1989 he became Premier of the Czech Government and, later, was for years the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the Czech Senate. He is also the author of a number of books about politics and modern Czech history. In his most recent publication, whose title translates as "After Eighty-nine: Recollections and meditations" (the third volume of Pithart´s collected works), he considers his role in the period from February 1990, when he was elected Czech Premier, to the defeat his party, the Citizen´s Movement (Občanské hnutí), in the general elections of June 1992. The reviewer notes in particular the passages devoted to the division of powers between the Czech and Slovak governments on the one hand and the Federal Government on the other, the scenarios for economic reform, the privatization of industries, and politics in practice. According to the reviewer, Pithart moves in this publicaton between self-criticism and self-defence and is at his strongest when he avoids moralizing and sticks instead to factual description., [autor recenze] Adéla Gjuričová., and Obsahuje bibliografii a bibliografické odkazy
