Zároveň získaná radiokarbonová data obohacují naše poznání o aktivity probíhající na Bílém kameni v pozdním středověku a raném novověku. and The article presents a current view of the issue of the Neolithic mining site of Bílý kámen near Sázava (Czech Republic, Benešov district). The results are based both on an analysis of earlier finds and on the finds from a new archaeological excavation. The findings show that the traditional idea of one of the most important monuments of prehistoric mining activities of non-silicate rock in Central Europe will need to be substantially revised. The fact that it is not the main source of the raw material of marble bracelets during the period of the Stroked Pottery culture (5100/5000–4500/4400 cal BC) opens new space in a seemingly long-resolved discussion. Radiocarbon data enrich our knowledge of the activities taking place at Bílý kámen in the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern period.
Přestože některé z těchto kruhových struktur mohou být relikty původních mohyl vymezených žlaby či palisádami, některé konstrukční prvky a další indicie naznačují, že v řadě případů se nejspíše jednalo o kruhové pohřební areály, jejichž vnitřní plocha nebyla pokryta souvislým mohylovým násypem. and The paper presents an evaluation of the round burial area from the Middle Bronze Age discovered in 2008 during a rescue archaeological excavation in Nymburk in central Bohemia. The unique quality of the burial area lies in the fact that it is the first registered case in Bohemia in which burials are deposited directly in a round ditch, not in the central burial chamber in the space demarcated by this ditch. The paper likewise addresses the interpretation of features created by round ditches that are usually reconstructed as barrows. Although some of these round structures could be remnants of original barrows demarcated by ditches or palisades, certain construction elements and other evidence suggests that many of them could in fact have been round burial areas on flat ground whose internal space was not covered by a continual mound.
Mají rozmanitou povahu, funkci a původ. Kromě materiálových analýz nebyla dosud slitkům původem z Čech věnována komplexní systematická pozornost, a to zejména z hlediska jejich podrobné deskripce a z ní vyplývajících dat k posouzení druhu produktů. Výzkum se zaměřil na studium formálních vlastností slitků, kategorií hutnických a slévačských produktů v rámci operačního řetězce metalurgie bronzu a vzorců organizačního a technologického zacházení v rámci různého prostoru a času. Využity a komparovány byly jak klasické archeologické metody dokumentace, tak přírodovědné analytické metody. and The study contributes to knowledge of the Bronze Age tin bronze production process based on the testimony of metal raw materials. This concerns evidence of metallurgical activities both in the form of semi-finished products/ingots and waste generated during production activities. Metal raw materials of a diverse nature, function and provenance occur in various contexts throughout most of the Bronze Age. Besides material analyses, metal raw materials originating in Bohemia have not yet received comprehensive systematic attention, especially in terms of their detailed description and the resulting data to assess types of products. The research focused on a study of the formal properties of metal raw materials, categories of smelting and casting products within the operational chain of bronze metallurgy and patterns of organisational and technological treatment in various space and time contexts. Both classical archaeological methods of documentation and scientific analytical methods were used and compared.
Práce přináší výsledky první geochemické analýzy provedené na pravěkých obsidiánových artefaktech z území Čech. Ke studiu bylo vybráno jedenáct vzorků s důvěryhodným datačním kontextem. Převážnou většinu analyzovaných vzorků je možné zařadit do období neolitu. Artefakty byly analyzovány dvěma nedestruktivními geochemickými metodami: hodnoty koncentrací zjištěné metodou pXRF byly kalibrovány pomocí výsledků LA-ICP-MS. Na základě výsledků je možné devět vzorků přiřadit s největší pravděpodobností slovenskému zdroji, surovina dvou vzorků pochází pravděpodobně z maďarských zdrojů. and The paper presents the results of the first geochemical analysis conducted on prehistoric obsidian artefacts from Bohemia. Eleven samples from reliably dated contexts were chosen for the study. The vast majority of the analysed samples can be classified into the Neolithic period. The artefacts were analysed using two non-destructive geochemical methods: concentration values determined by portable X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (pXRF) were calibrated using the results of laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Based on the results, the origin of nine samples can, with the greatest degree of probability, be traced to Slovakia, the other two to Hungary.
Nové nálezy patrně importovaného nákončí pochvy meče rozšiřují dosud známou škálu těchto artefaktů z českého území. and An openwork bronze scabbard chape was found on the slopes of Pákova Hill in the Central Bohemian Uplands (cadastral territory of Lhota u Medvědic); based on exact parallels from Kelheim, it can be dated to the 11th century and/or beginning of the 12th century. Another fragment was found in Roudnice in the district of Hradec Králové, and another in Ždánice na Moravě, which featured slightly different openwork decoration. The new finds of apparently imported scabbard chapes increase the hitherto known scale of these artefacts in Bohemia.
Srovnání nevelkého množství podobných nálezových situací může naznačovat, že nízké zastoupení zahloubených sídlištních objektů v českých lokalitách je spíše důsledkem jejich původní funkce a využití v rámci sídelního areálu než redukcí v průběhu archeologizace a případných zásahů do terénu včetně archeologického výzkumu. and Area excavation in the sand-pit near the Vlíněves municipality, Mělník distr., accomplished in the years 1999–2008, yielded – apart from a number of finds from different periods of the agricultural prehistory – also finds of the Bell Beaker culture. Finds of this culture, recorded in settlement context, are presented and their find context and spatial distribution within the excavated area discussed. Comparison of the few similar find situations may suggest that the low incidence of sunken settlement features at Czech sites is due to their original purpose and use within the settlement area rather than their reduction during archaeologization or potential terrain interventions including archaeological excavation.
Text je tak zároveň příspěvkem k problematice chronologické uzavřenosti nálezových souborů ze sídlištních objektů. and Extensive rescue excavation recently carried out at the construction of the Kolín ring road yielded important information sources also for the Middle Eneolithic period. The present article, accounting for eight features of the given period from area I-9, represents one of the results of their progressive publication. From the analytical point of view, two large assemblages are substantial, providing evidence of several archaeological cultures. The dominant component consists in finds from the early stage of the Řivnáč culture, sporadically accompanied by chronologically corresponding imports or imitations of the Bošáca culture pottery, recorded in the materials from the Kolín ring road for the second time already. Pottery sherds of the Silesian branch of the Globular Amphora culture were identified in one of the features and are interpreted as evidence of the settlement horizon subsequent to the abandonment of the Řivnáč culture settlement. The text thus contributes also to the issue of chronological closure of find contexts of settlement features.
Eneolitické představovaly ceněnou komoditu, často dávanou do hrobů příslušníků elity. Oproti tomu dvě třetiny severských dýk z mladoúnětického období vykazují vazbu na říční a suchozemské komunikační směry a značná část jich je ze sídlišť charakteru centrálních míst či uzlových bodů. Dýky v této době zřejmě nebyly předmětem směny, ale jejím průvodním znakem. Je pravděpodobné, že zčásti patřily k výbavě lidí účastnících se provozu na dálkových komunikacích, spojujících alpskou rudnou oblast s únětickou kulturou a severským okruhem. and Finds of silicite daggers in Bohemia (52 specimens) come from two productions circuits – the southern, subalpine circuit, and the northern, Baltic circuit – and date to five horizons between the Middle Eneolithic and the Early Bronze Age. Some of the lance-shaped daggers from the context of Eneolithic cultures are of southern origin (Cham, Řivnáč, Corded Ware culture – from Bavarian tabular chert), while others are of northern origin (protoand early Únětice culture). Later types of Nordic daggers with handles date to the Early Bronze Age (late Únětice culture). A substantial difference is evident in the function of the daggers from the two periods. The Eneolithic daggers represented a valuable commodity that was often buried with members of the elite as a grave good. On the other hand, two-thirds of the Nordic daggers from the late Únětice period show a link to river and overland routes; a substantial number of these daggers are from settlements with the nature of a central location or junction points. In this period daggers were apparently not a subject of exchange but rather an attendant trait. It is probable that some of the daggers were part of the gear of people involved in the operation of travel over the long-distance routes connecting the ore territory in the Alps with Únětice culture and the Nordic circuit.
Na prahu pozitivistické epochy tak prakticky naplňoval svoji zásadu přiblížení archeologie k exaktním přírodním vědám. and The article traces the beginnings of the relationship between Bohemian archaeology and the non-life sciences starting in the 1830s. While cooperation with mineralogy and petrography was unilaterally limited to the use of experts to identify the raw materials of polished stone industry for descriptive records and the initiative at the beginning of the study of Quaternary deposits from the 1840s (and of the Palaeolithic from the 1850s) came, on the other hand, from natural scientists (geologists and palaeontologists) with virtually no active participation of archaeologists, the relationship between archaeology and chemistry, in contrast, developed with bilateral cooperation. It began in the 1830s with the investigation of ‘vitrified forts’ and moved to a higher level in 1847 with the chemical analysis of the composition of bronze artefacts, the initiator of which (as the first in the whole of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the time) and partially also an active participant, was the archaeologist Prof. Jan Erazim Vocel. The result of this activity, which lasted until the end of the 1860s, was the classification and chronological dating of bronze artefacts based on the ratio of metals in the alloy; in this sense, Vocel as early as 1853–1855 created a relative chronology that is essentially consistent with today’s state of knowledge. Therefore, on the threshold of the positivist era, he had succeeded in his principle of bringing archaeology closer to the exact natural sciences.
Soubor obsahuje vedle keramické misky a souboru laténského ženského kruhového šperku i jedinečnou importovanou bronzovou mísu středoitalského původu. Rozbor depotu a provedená makrozbytková a palynologická analýza umožňují klást si otázky o vztahu střední Evropy a Středomoří, o lidské přítomnosti v regionu a o rituálních aktivitách v době laténské. and The article presents an assemblage of artefacts discovered at the foot of a rock near Stebno (Louny distr.) and interpreted as a ritual hoard from stage LT B1/B2 from which there are no other traces of human presence in the region. The assemblage included a pottery bowl, La Tène women’s ring ornament set and a unique bronze basin of central Italian origin. An analysis of the hoard, including macro-remains and palynological analyses, raises questions on the relationship between central Europe and the Mediterranean, the human presence in the region during the La Tène period and on ritual activities in the La Tène period.
