The Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the ASCR organised the 4th IAGA/ICMA/CAWSES-II TG4 Workshop on Vertical Coupling in the Atmosphere-Ionosphere System, which was held from 14-18, 2011 in Prague. The Earth's atmospheric regions are intricately coupled to one another via various dynamical, chemical, and electrodynamic processes. An international conference, Victory over fascism in 1945: its significance for peoples of the CIS and the world, took place in Moscow on April 8, 2010. The motto was: We won together. It was organized by the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation. This was part of the action plan and preparations for the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War. On January 1, 2013, Ireland began its six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union. Irish Presidency for the seventh time coincides with the 40t" anniversary of its membership of the European Union. Some issues on the Irish Presidency's agenda include the following: Finalizing agreement on the Multiannual Financial Framework that will determine the EU budget from 2014-2020. The annual Villa Lanna Meetings of Science, or Else? are organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Collegium Helveticum, an Institute supported by both the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the University of Zurich. They bring together scientists from different fields of research to discuss general aspects of science, the position of science in society and its consequences to humanity. This year, now the 10th meeting was held in Prague from 11-13 January, its topic was Reproducibility - Arts, Science and Living Nature. Týden vědy a techniky Akademie věd ČR v posledních ročnících počítá návštěvníky nikoli na tisíce, nýbrž desetitisíce, a je tak největší popularizační aktivitou na podporu vědy a techniky v České republice. Z původně týdenní přehlídky se rozrostl do podoby čtrnáctidenní akce, jež studentům i veřejnosti zprostředkovává jedinečné setkání s českými vědci prostřednictvím různorodého programu přednášek, seminářů, workshopů, konferencí, výstav, vědeckých kaváren či filmových projekcí. Třináctka ve vínku letošního festivalu se navzdory své pověsti ukázala jako šťastná, když se díky nasazení a elánu organizátorů ze všech akademických pracovišť uskutečnilo přes 500 akcí v Praze, Brně, Ostravě, Českých Budějovicích a na dalších místech republiky. and Luděk Svoboda.
