The article dedicates to the results of prosopographic study realized on the example of three female conventual congregations for the second half of the nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth century. Wedding announcements constitute a specific source for the study of social history. Their beginning can be dated, in the Czech Lands, to the first half of the 19th century. The present study focuses on the analysis of the engaged couples, their origin, social standing, nationality and religion. The present article focuses on the everyday life of married couples at the countryside in the „long" 19th century on the basis of the sources that arose at the Archiepiscopal Matrimonial Court in Prague shortly after the beginning of the 19th century. The case of Josef Houšek reveals the social and economic situation of the villagers and their in dealing with the highest ecclesiastical and state representatives. Besides, it renders possible a surprisingly close view of the everyday life of the married couple and their relatives. The husband and wife Houšek had to cope with the incapability of the wife Barbora to fulfil her „marital duty". This led to several attempts to annulate the marriage. However in the period between 1845 and 1858, for which the case was followed through the sources, these efforts were in vain.
