Autoři rozlišili organickou a kulturní dimenzi lidského těla. Antropologie zkoumá tělo na třech strukturálních úrovních, které odpovídají třem hlavním typům kulturních prvků: artefakty, normy a významy. Vymezené úrovně lze s ohledem na antropologii těla uchopit prostřednictvím procesů úpravy, disciplinace a semiotizace těla., The object of the paper is anthropology of the body as a branch of anthropology as such. The authors distinguish between or- ganic and cultural dimension of the human body. Anthropology examines the body on three structural levels, which correspond to the three main types of cultural elements: artifacts, norms and meanings. Concerning the framework of anthropology of the body, the defi ned levels can be studied by means of modifi cation, disciplination and semiotization processes., Martin Soukup, Michaela Balcerová, and Literatura
Výsledky převratných výzkumů Harolda Coolidge a F ranse de Waala přispěly podobným způso - bem k p ochopení a p orozumění bonobů. Tyto studie zřetelně svědčí o n ápadném kontrastu mezi agresivním šimpanzem a mír umilovným bo - nobem. Náš vlastní druh nadto sdílí některé psychologické a s ociální aspekty s o běma zmíněnými pongidy. Antropologové tedy dnes mohou s jistotou zasadit všechny tři druhy do evolučního rámce., Anthropologists recognize both the close similarities and distinct differences between the human species and the great apes, especially the chimpanzee and the bonobo. Besides acknowledging the obvious biological characteristics, primatologists needed to also inves - tigate the psychological and social similarities between the human animal and the two Pan species. Jane Goodall pioneered the close-range and long-term observations of wild chimpanzees in their natural habitats. Likewise, Harold Coolidge and Frans de Waal contributed to un - derstanding and appreciating bonobos as a r esult of their ground-breaking research. These studies clearly attest to a s triking contrast between the aggressive chimpanzee and the peaceful bonobo. Furthermore, our own species shares some psychological and social aspects with both of these pongids. Consequently, anthropologists can now confidently place all three species within an evolutionary framework., Ryan J. Trubits, and Literatura
More than half of all of the children in the world, which die before the age of five, die in Africa. Wider availability of several highly effecti - ve interventions such as oral rehyd - ration therapy in cases of diarrhoea could prevent large proportion of these child deaths. Unfortunately these interventions are usually not available in African countries. Ho - wever both availability of different life-saving health interventions and child mortality varies a lot across African countries. The purpose of this article is to explore what are determinants of child mortality and availability of these interventions in Africa. Both a review of existing research and a statistical analysis of data from 41 African countries point to the quality of governance and control of corruption as the most significant determinant of health system performance and availability of these life-saving interventions in Africa., Jan Klusáček, and Literatura
The subject of liability for damage to client caused during performance of social services in residential establishments becomes increasingly relevant. As opposed to the liability for damage caused during performance of health services, this subject is rather underappreciated by general members of the legal profession. For this reason RILSA produced a study „Legal aspects of liability for damage caused to a client while providing a social-health care in residential establishment for social services“ that aimed to find out the level of knowledge among the providers of residential social services in the area of liability for damage. To find out the level of legal knowledge of providers of residential social services, a question form was distributed randomly in the Czech Republic. We found out, that providers of residential social services know about the existence of liability for damage and that they are insured. But in the case of significant incurred damage or in the case of more damages within one year the insurance coverage limit might not be sufficient. However, the knowledge of legal terms of liability for damage eventually caused to their clients is limited and current way of obtaining the knowledge by individual study is insufficient., Daniela Bruthansová, Věra Jeřábková, and Literatura
Zvláštní pozornost je věnovaná fenoménu role playing games a dnešní podobě literárního upíra, přičemž jsou zde zohledněny i genderové rozdíly v přístupu k těmto fantastickým bytostem., The theme of this contribution is an analysis of searching magic beings, dragons and vampires, in the postmodern world of science and technique. At first sight, it could seem these beings, so far away from rationalism of present time, cannot find their real expression. The aim of this study is to describe which way the stories about monsters, their victims and heroes, who come to save them, has adapted to the cultural code of present time. How much have dragons and vampires kept their former identity and how much have the differences between a h ero and a m onster started to remove? Special attention is paid to the phenomenon of the role playing games and current image of a li terary vampire, and even gender differences in the approach to the fantastic beings was taken into account., Markéta Poláková, and Literatura
Health Technology Assessment (HTA) denotes a process (resp. a study), the objective of which is to get an idea about clinical, economic and ethical aspects of a health technology, including its effect to the quality of life, and a consequent assessment. The output of this process is compiled under strict methodological conditions, and it has only a character of recommendation. Abroad, HTA is intensely used above all to complex comparing two (or several) technologies. When the origin of HTA goes back to 1960 ́s and 1970 ́s, the first information appeared in the Czech Republic in the beginning of this millennium. No Czech institution is a member of international organizations INEHTA and HTAi, which makes any access to foreign know- how more difficult. Although no complex study has been probably produced in the Czech Republic, some efforts to a larger utilization of HTA methods can be seen, above all in pharmacoeconomics. What discourages their higher utilization is a lack of interest in results of HTA studies from the side of health care providers, decision makers (the Ministry, regional administrations, health insurance companies), missing methodology, absence of methodological guidance (non-existence of a national agency), pending funding, and (non)-participation in international networks., Vladimír Rogalewicz, Ivana Juřičková, and Literatura
Z faktu kontextuality pak vyplývá požadavek kontextuální interpretace pacientova textu., In this article we reflect upon human rights principles of advance directives. Advance directives come from three concepts: right of self-determination, respect for human dignity and respect to human dignity. Human person is a contextual being. From the fact of contextuality comes demand for contextual interpretation of the patient’s text., Jaromír Matějek, and Literatura
Horizontální přenos genů a genové inženýrství vyústily v celou řadu případů, kdy došlo k překročení hranic oddělujících lidský genom od genomů jiných organismů. The horizontal gene transfer and genetic engineering resulted in many crossings of the boundary dividing the human genome from the genomes of other organisms. The horizontal gene transfer is a natural process and cannot be stopped. The genetic engineering is a highly beneficial human activity and we cannot abandon it. Moreover, our ancestors “spilled” our genome with sequences of DNA from seve- ral extinct human species. It is necessary to accept that the border of the human genome is not sharply delineated. In the future, the contours of our genome could become even much fuzzier., Jaroslav Petr, and Literatura
Kosterní pozůstatky zvířat z archeologických výzkumů středověkých lokalit tvoří soubory kostí a fragmentů. Naopak kosti malých přežvýkavců (ovce a kozy) byly v souborech zastoupeny maximálně do 17 % z důvodu omezené užitkovosti těchto zvířat. Všechny tyto výsledky jsou důležitým zdrojem informací o masité složce stravy středověké populace v různých sociálních prostředích, Animal skeletal remains from archaeological research of medieval localities create collections of bones and fragments. These col - lections are evaluated in archaeo-osteological detachment of Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology of University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno. Results are compared with accessible literary sources and in cooperation with archaeologists are correlated to other findings. This paper is focused on bones and fragments which create the kitchen waste. Successful determination can be notably sup - ported by finding of canalis nutricius on diaphysis of long bones. By the help of dividing bones into categories (A, B, C) according to “worth” of meat was facilitated documentation of differences in consum - mation of meat in aristocratic seats and rustic houses. The highest share was very often formed by cattle bones (up to 56 %). Breeding of this animal species was favourite not only for its meat but also for other possibilities of utilization. On contrary bones of small ruminants (sheep and goat) were presented only in smaller amount (up to 17 %) on the ground of their limited utility. Also participation of pig bones was lower (not more than 10–30 %). This rate of usage of pork meat is in accordance with the level of medieval breeding of pigs – animals with one-side usage. Only small parts of findings (up to 4 %) were formed by horse bones with trace of culinary processing. Higher number was very rare and always related to specific situation in the locality under study. Cutting of bones (mostly by chopping) shows the way of slaughter and culinary processing of meat. All these results are considered to be an important source of information about meaty component of food of medieval population in various social rank., Václav Páral, Martin Pyszko, and Literatura
