Purpose: Usually any research survey can produce better results if it is utilized in local language. The study aimed to measure the inter-consistency, reliability and validity of three measures in Arabic language. Current study is phase I of research project to validate the measures in Arabic language. Material and Method: These three valuable and most widely used scales, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, brief psychological well-being scale and impact of weight on quality of life questionnaire were translated in Arabic language by adapting standard procedure of translation. Data was gathered from female students (N=500) enrolled in bachelors program during the period of November 2014-October 2015. Results: Reliability of the scale was calculated using Cronbach alpha. Psychological well-being scale was found having high reliability of 0.92, whereas, Rosenberg self-esteem scale and Impact of weight on quality of life questionnaire was found having acceptable range of reliability (0.72). All the sub scales of IWQOL-Lite reliability ranges from 0.87-0.95. Three of the scales were found having good content and construct validity. Cíl: Český překlad Epworthské škály spavosti je běžně užívaná metoda pro posouzení zvýšené denní spavosti patrně většinou pracovišť, která se zabývají poruchami dýchání ve spánku. Cílem této studie je určení psychometrických vlastností české verze tohoto dotazníku. Soubor a metodika: Česká verze Epworthské škály spavosti byla předložena 112 pacientům, kteří byli vyšetřeni na Otorinolaryngologické klinice 3. LF UK a FN Královské Vinohrady pro podezření na poruchu dýchání ve spánku, a jež byli vyšetřeni limitovanou polygrafií a měli apnea‑hypopnea index vyšší nebo roven pěti. Byla určena vnitřní konzistence české verze dotazníku pomocí Cronbachova alfa, test‑retest reliabilita (reprodukovatelnost testu) a dále byla skupina pacientů srovnána s kontrolní skupinou (74 studentů lékařské fakulty). Výsledky: Cronbachovo alfa bylo stanoveno na α = 0,808452, výsledná hodnota korelačního koeficientu mezi celkovými součty z testu a re‑testu byla r = 0,968550, výsledky dvouvýběrového t‑testu srovnávajícího výsledky testu u obou skupin jsou t = 6,3949 a hodnota p < 0,001. Závěr: Česká verze Epworthské škály spavosti prokázala dobré psychometrické vlastnosti, které umožňují využití tohoto dotazníku pro každodenní klinickou praxi i pro potřeby výzkumu., Aim: The Czech translation of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale is used to assess daytime sleepiness at the majority of sites concerned with sleep-disordered breathing. The aim of this study was to determine psychometric properties of the Czech version of this questionnaire. Patients and methods: The Czech version of the Epworth sleepiness scale was presented to 112 patients examined at the ENT department of the 3rd Medical Faculty and University Hospital Královské Vinohrady for suspected sleep-disordered breathing and who had the limited polygraphy apnea-hypopnea index greater than or equal to five. Internal consistency of the Czech version of the questionnaire using Cronbach’s alpha and test-retest reliability (reproducibility of the test) were determined, and the patient group was compared with a control group (74 medical students). Results: Cronbach’s alpha was set at α = 0.808452, the resulting value of the correlation coefficient between the total score of¨the test and re-test was r = 0.968550, the results of the two-sample t-test, comparing the test results for both groups were t = 6.3949 and p value of 0.001. Conclusion: The Czech version of the Epworth sleepiness scale showed good psychometric properties that allow its use in routine clinical practice and research.
