- The goal of this paper is to explain the grounds of Byron’s second stay in Greece in 1823–1824, its course and significance for the Greek revolution in the 1820s, and contribute thus to the better knowledge of the history of the Philhellenism and the relations between the East and West at the given period. The author’s effort is primarily aimed at the refutation of some deep-rooted myths, in particular the general exaggeration of the importance of Byron’s working and death in Greece for the achievement of its independence.
