Evaluation of natural hazards in Urubamba Valley. Urubamba river valley is well known thanks to the famous Inca ruins of the Machu Picchu settled on flat saddle overloking the surrounding high peaks. This region is being increasingly discussed not only to one of the new "wonders of the World" but also due to hazardous naturyal events, which occasionally show their destructive force.
Landslides in myths and legends. Landslides are fearsome events which have always been presented in the nature. Legends are one way of cooping with those phenomena in the past centuries but surprisingly evolve also during recent times in different parts of the World. In rare cases, legends explain well the observed natural processes, but most myths show just very little understanding of the nature. Presented examples demonstrate desperate need to understand often disastrous landslide events, regardless reliability of suggested interpretations.
