- Description:
- T. E. Lawrence and his political and military activities during the World War I is a theme that attracts attention of many scientists who aim their interest at modern history of the Middle Eastern countries. Although an immortal legend, it is a personality whose action is still difficult to adequately evaluate. There is no doubt that T. E. Lawrence is perceived as a figure of considerable impact. He is believed to be the main inspirer, as well as its originator, of the famous Revolt in a Desert. He built his good reputation on smooth cooperation with Arab tribes in the Hijaz. He served during the World War I in Arab Peninsula as a British officer and as an adviser of Faisal, son of Sharif Husain and a leader of the Arab Revolt. To determine the accurate impact of Lawrence‘s career in British politics on the Middle East, the study takes into account the approaches of Linda Tarver and Elie Kedourie, who offer non-conventional and fully qualified opinions on given subject. A character of Lawrence‘s unique personality is discussed as well. Extraordinary figure of Lawrence influenced postwar public view of British Middle Eastern policy especially with its claim of British betrayal of Arab people. This opinion was supported by other British officials and respectable scientists. The study deals also with a question of various inter-war territorial promises. As an outcome a summary of Lawrence‘s life and career and an outline of his factual political and military role in an inter-war British foreign policy are presented.
