The effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation and organic slow release fertilizer (OSRF) on photosynthesis, root phosphatase activity, nutrient acquisition, and growth of Ipomoea carnea N. von Jacquin ssp. fistulosa (K. Von Martinus ex J. Choisy) D. Austin (bush morning glory) was determined in a greenhouse study. The AMF treatments consisted of a commercial isolate of Glomus intraradices and a non-colonized (NonAMF) control. The OSRF was applied at 10, 30, and 100 % of the manufacturer's recommended rate. AMF plants had a higher net photosynthetic rate (PN), higher leaf elemental N, P, and K, and generally greater growth than NonAMF plants. Total colonization levels of AMF plants ranged from 27 % (100 % OSRF) to 79 % (30 % OSRF). Root acid phosphatase (ACP) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities were generally higher in AMF than non-AMF plants. When compared to NonAMF at 100 % OSRF, AMF plants at 30 % OSRF had higher or comparable ACP and ALP activity, higher leaf elemental P, N, Fe, Cu, and Zn, and a greater PN (at the end of the experiment), leading to generally greater growth parameters with the lower fertility in AMF plants. We suggest that AMF increased nutrient acquisition from an organic fertilizer source by enhancing ACP and ALP activity thus facilitating P acquisition, increasing photosynthesis, and improving plant growth. and L. mRNA expression patterns of genes for metabolic key enzymes sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), pyruvate kinase, ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase, glutamine synthetase 1, and glutamine synthetase 2 were investigated in leaves of rice plants grown at two nitrogen (N) supplies (N0.5, N3.0). The relative gene expression patterns were similar in all leaves except for 9th leaf, in which mRNA levels were generally depressed. Though increased N supply prolonged the expression period of each mRNA, it did not affect the relative expression intensity of any mRNA in a given leaf. SPS Vmax, SPS limiting and PEPC activities, and carbon flow were examined. The ratio between PEPC activity and SPS Vmax was higher in leaves developed at the vegetative growth stage (vegetative leaves: 5th and 7th leaves) than in leaves developed after the ear primordia formation stage (reproductive leaves: 9th and flag leaves). PEPC activity and SPS Vmax decreased with declining leaf N content. After using 14CO2 the 14C photosynthate distribution in the amino acid fraction was higher in vegetative than in reproductive leaves when compared for the same leaf N status. Thus, at high PEPC/SPS activities ratio, more 14C photosynthate was distributed to the amino acid pool, whereas at higher SPS activity more 14C was channelled into the saccharide fraction. Thus, leaf ontogeny was an important factor controlling photosynthate distribution to the N- or C-pool, respectively, regardless of the leaf N status. and T. Shinano ... [et al.].
Chloromyxum leydigi Mingazzini, 1890, the type species of Chloromyxum Mingazzini, 1890, is redescribed based on material found in the gall bladder of the cartilaginous fish Torpedo marmorata Risso collected from the Portuguese Atlantic coast and its sporogonic development is described. Plasmodia and mature spores were floating free in the bile. Plasmodia are polysporic and highly polymorphic in shape and organization. Mature spores are spherical to subspherical with a pointed anterior end, measuring 12.3 ± 0.5 μm in length and 9.0 ± 0.5 μm in width. The spore wall is composed of two asymmetric shell valves, each bearing 4-5 elevated surface ridges. A bundle of 40-50 tapering caudal filaments extends from the basal portion of the shell valves. Four pyriform equal-sized polar capsules, measuring about 5.3 × 3.2 μm, are observed at the same level in the anterior pole of the spores, each containing a polar filament coiled in 8-9 (rarely 10) turns. Spore morphology, tissue tropism, host species and sequences of the SSU rRNA gene supported species identification. Since its discovery, this species has been dubiously reported from several cartilaginous hosts, namely due to the poor description of its features.
Four new species of Ceratomyxa Thélohan, 1892 are described from the gall bladders of fishes collected off Lizard Island, Australia. These species are characterised using a combination of morphometric and molecular data. Ceratomyxa bartholomewae sp. n. is described from Hyporhamphus dussumieri (Valenciennes) (family Hemirhamphidae); C. koieae sp. n. is described from Sphyraena forsteri Cuvier (family Sphyraenidae); C. pantherini sp. n. is described from Bothus pantherinus (Rüppell) (family Bothidae) and C. reidi sp. n. is described from Chaetodon vagabundus Linnaeus (family Chaetodontidae). A fifth species from Zebrasoma veliferum (Bloch) (family Acanthuridae) is also reported but due to limited material is not formally described here.
This article focuses on the intersection of gender, class and racial/ethnic inequalities. The intersection theory draws on the feminist critique of traditional class theory and on the challenge to feminism posed by ethnic women. The article develops thinking about various configurations of the intersection of inequalities and addresses mainly the case of marginalized women. However, the argument goes that the intersection of gender, class and racial/ethnic inequalities is not just a matter for disadvantaged groups because it has an impact on all groups in various relations. Class, gender and race/ethnicity should be understood as interlocked systems of both disadvantage and privilege. The intersection of inequalities is an approach intertwined with the development of social movements (women’s, labour and civil rights movements) in the USA and Western Europe. The article looks at why the intersection theory elaborated in the West mainly in the 1990s has not been reflected in Czech gender studies. We establish several inequalities for the spectral radius of a positive commutator of positive operators in a Banach space ordered by a normal and generating cone. The main purpose of this paper is to show that in order to prove the quasi-nilpotency of the commutator we do not have to impose any compactness condition on the operators under consideration. In this way we give a partial answer to the open problem posed in the paper by J. Bračič, R. Drnovšek, Y. B. Farforovskaya, E. L. Rabkin, J. Zemánek (2010). Inequalities involving an arbitrary commutator and a generalized commutator are also discussed.
