- Description:
- In this article the authors examine the forms and experiences of insecure and precarious work by Czech women caring for a child or a dependent family member. The results of a quantitative survey indicate that the share of caring women performing precarious work increased during the economic crisis. A secondary analysis of interviews conducted in 2006–2013 with women caring for a child or another family member offered insight into the forms precarious work can take and the ways women feel about this kind of work and why. It also demonstrated in what way, based on the capability approach, their explanations provide a better understanding of the nature and extent of precarious work among women with care responsibilities. We found that the ways caring women view ad-hoc work fit along a continuum, ranging from an optimal temporary strategy, to a temporary solution in the absence of other options, and finally to feelings of being caught in a precarious work trap. This continuum can be extrapolated into a kind of ‘collective story’: a woman first ‘chooses’ ad-hoc work as a temporary strategy to get a job; if her life conditions are difficult she must continue to perform such work against her preferences; after a long period of economic inactivity or of performing just temporary work, the woman is ultimately unable to find any secure form of employment, even if she is no longer restricted by care responsibilities – she ends up trapped in precarious work. and Obsahuje seznam literatury

- Subject:
- Ramadan, fast, Czech Muslim Community, iftar, and festival of fast-breaking
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
- The study describes ramadan and the duty to fast which is related to it. Firstly, the attention is drawn to the Czech community of believers, its size and countries of origin of Muslims living in the Czech Republic. A brief description of a research carried out among the Muslims of Prague and Brno between 2006 and 2009 follows. The goal of the research was to capture the everyday life of Sunni Muslims living in the Czech Republic. The next part covers the religious duty to fast in the month of ramadan - one of five pillars of faith. Particular sanctions following the non-observance of the fast, and the question of who does the duty to fast apply to, are analysed. The study further describes the way how Muslims celebrate ramadan in the Czech Republic, and what the breaking of the fast “iftar”, which takes place every evening of the month, looks like. tTe study also covers the festival of fast-breaking “Eid al-Fitr” and its performance in Brno in 2007.

5. Verification of the stabilizer bar of an articulated trolleybus

- Type:
- model:article and TEXT
- Subject:
- articulated trolleybus, driving stability, stabilizer bar, multibody dynamics, and experiment
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- At the modernization of the ŠKODA 22 Tr low-floor articulated trolleybus a different type of an articulated joint and a different type of driving axles were used in its construction besides other changes. During test drives with the modernized trolleybus, which were focused on the driving stability of the vehicle, a large roll of the rear section appeared. A suitable structural solution for reducing the rear section roll angle of the modernized trolleybus was the using of a rear section stabilizer bar. The stabilizer effect on dynamic properties of the vehicle and a suitable bar diameter were determined on the basis of the results of the computer simulations with the trolleybus multibody models. The text drives focused on the vehicle driving stability were performed again with the loaded real trolleybus, in the structure of which the designed rear section stabilizer bar was applied. On the basis of computer simulations of the test drives with the trolleybus multibody models the correctness of the experimantal-simulation approach used for the stabilizer bar structural design was verified. and Obsahuje seznam literatury

6. Zmiany znaczeniowe w afazji

- Subject:
- linguistics, semantics, and aphasia
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
- Semantic changes observed in aphasic patients are examined in two aspects: as transfers of names and transfers of meaning. The most frequent in the material under scrutiny are semantic changes resulting form the contiguity of meanings (metonymies) and shifts motivated by the similarity of names (paronymies). Changes based on the similarity of meanings (metaphors) and the contiguity of names (ellipses) are less frequent. The relative frequencies of the mechanisms underlying semantic change in aphasia lead one to reflect on the nature of cognitive functions in aphasic patients. That the configurations of form and content, obtained by analyzing aphasic texts, are stored in people´s cognitive structures and as such constitute templates or patterns necessary for the comprehension and description of reality, as well as for the segmentation of interpreted sequences of information. The patterns recognized in the present study pertain primarily to the visible, physical world, judgments of non-material mental images are less frequent.
