The most common volcanoes on Earth are kilometre-sized scoria cones; conical edifices of pyroclastic material originating from explosive volcanic activity. Interestingly, scoria cones, as known on Earth, have not been observed on any other terrestrial body in the solar system despite the fact that magma degassing, and hence magma fragmentation, has to also occur on these bodies.
