- Description:
- At present, research activities on the role of orchard systems in sequestering atmospheric CO2 remain scarce. This paper aimed to contribute to assessing the carbon balance of a Mediterranean olive (Olea europea) orchard. The net ecosystem exchange, the ecosystem respiration and the gross primary production were computed for two consecutive years through eddy covariance, and the different biomass accumulation terms were also inferred in the same period through an inventorial method. The net carbon exchange ranged from 13.45 t(C) ha-1 year-1 to 11.60 t(C) ha-1 year-1. Very similar values [12.2 and 11.5 t(C) ha-1 year-1] were found with the direct carbon accumulation inventory. The intensive farming management (irrigation included) and the young age of the plants (12-16 years old), still in an active growing phase, led the olive plantation to be a higher carbon sink with respect to other evergreen orchards reported in the literature., M. - Description:
- During a study on parasites of fish from cenotes (= sinkholes) in the Yucatan Peninsula, the following cestodes and acanthocephalans were found in 581 freshwater fish of 15 species: the cestodes Bothriocephalus acheilognathi Yamaguti, 1934, Bothriocephalus sp. (Bothriocephalidae), Nomimascolex sp. (Monticellidae), Proteocephalidea gen. sp. larv., Dendrouterina pa-pillifera (Fuhrmann, 1908) larv. and D. pilherodiae Mahon, 1956 larv. (Dilepididae), and the acanthocephalans Octospinifer-oides chandleri Bullock, 1957, Neoechinorhynchus golvani Salgado-Maldonado, 1978 (Neoechinorhynchidae), Polymorphus (syn. Arhythmorhynchus) brevis (Van Cleave, 1916) larv. (Polymorphidae), and an echinorhynchid larva. With the exception of B. acheilognathi, all tapeworms are found in Mexico for the first time; second-stage larvae of D. papillifera and D. pilherodiae from fish are reported for the first time.

5. Od ni přes aniž až k bez toho, aniž by

- Subject:
- single-word conjunction, complex conjunction, language functionality, language changes, jednoslovná spojka, složená spojka, funkčnost v jazyce, and jazykový vývoj
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
- The article concerns primarily the distribution of the single-word conjunction aniž and its synonyms, which are the compounds bez toho, aby/bez toho, že and the most complex form bez toho, aniž by. The author argues that this complex conjunction, which consists of four words (the word aniž itself being, form the historical point of view, a fusion of three words - a - ni - ž), is a problematic innovation in contemporary standard Czech. The reason is that the shorter innovation of bez toho, aby or bez toho, že was invented (or adopted from other languages) after November 1989 to replace the singleword aniž probably for stylistic reasons (aniž being felt as strongly formal or literary). Now, the most complex bez toho, aniž by combines the newly used bez toho, aby/že with the formal aniž, which, in fact, should have been replaced by the bez toho, aby/že. a fully non-functional device thus appears within the system of Czech conjunctions and only future usage will determine whether this will be adopted in standard Czech. As the corpus findings show now, the single-word aniž is much more frequent in written standard Czech than both the bez toho, aby/že variant and the most complex bez toho, aniž by.

- Description:
- Focusing on Czech birth care, this article examines the birth experience of 40 women who gave birth in different maternity hospitals during the past seven years. It investigates how these women approached birth care and what ideas they had about it. The article builds on semi ‑structured and narrative interviews with postpartum women, which were conducted within two different research projects. The interviewees differed in many aspects and especially in their general approach to childbirth issues and their interest in the subject. Several key issues emerged out of the thematic analysis of interviews: fear of childbirth, birth care evaluations, priorities and demands, and strategies of their enforcement. These issues are part of a wider concept of birth care, and five different conceptions of birth care were identified in the women’s birth narratives. They reflect different attitudes to the medicalization of birth care, different levels of knowledge and interest in childbirth issues, and different perceptions of their own position in the context of care provision., Ema Hrešanová., Poznámky na str. 74 (3), Biografická poznámka o autorce článku na str. 74, Obsahuje bibliografii, and Resumé o klíčová slova anglicky na str. 63

- Description:
- After a S-d cultivatíon in Solutions of different concentrations of lead and copper, structiiral changes were established in the photosynthetic apparatus of Elodea canadensis Rich. Lead and low concentrations of copper (0.03, 0.06 and 0.25 g m’^) did not induce large structural transformations in the protoplast. Some of the changes were specific for the species; vacuolization of the cytoplasm, instability of the tonoplast, increased activity of the dictyosomes, abnormally active division of the mitochondria, and number of chloroplasts and mitochondria in definite cell zones. High concentrations of copper (0.5, 1 and 1.5 g m*^) induced within 5 d a generál destruction of the protoplast. The concentration of 0.5 g(Cu^0 threshold concentration for survival of this species. High quantities of both metals were accumulated in the treated plants.

- Language:

- Description:
- Th is discussion piece, building on the argumentation developed by the Feminism for the 99% manifesto, argues for a popular feminism. It does so by responding to two interrelated questions: fi rst, the challenge popular feminism poses to the current feminist movement; and second, the challenge it poses to left movements and parties. After a short review and critique of mainly liberal and culturally oriented feminisms in the Czech and Slovak Republics after 1989, the text discusses the possibilities of, and barriers to, a popular feminism today.
