Beside Antonín Švehla, it was - without question - Alois Rašín, who influenced the process of the coup the most. His vision of the coup was not dull, simple or technological; it was a perfectly prepared and managed action, which was also to be enjoyed by its participants. In the centre of Rašín's thoughts were the preparations of the law drafts (also called The Founding Law of the State and above all The First Law), which should have given a legal framework to the new state. A coup that did not get out of hand and which was, once completed, immediately sealed by a law was his ideal but attainable vision. Rašín was probably the only one who tried to prepare such a law. Accurate and nondestructive methods to determine individual leaf areas of plants are a useful tool in physiological and agronomic research. Determining the individual leaf area (LA) of rose (Rosa hybrida L.) involves measurements of leaf parameters such as length (L) and width (W), or some combinations of these parameters. Two-year investigation was carried out during 2007 (on thirteen cultivars) and 2008 (on one cultivar) under greenhouse conditions, respectively, to test whether a model could be developed to estimate LA of rose across cultivars. Regression analysis of LA vs. L and W revealed several models that could be used for estimating the area of individual rose leaves. A linear model having L×W as the independent variable provided the most accurate estimate (highest r2, smallest MSE, and the smallest PRESS) of LA in rose. Validation of the model having L×W of leaves measured in the 2008 experiment coming from other cultivars of rose showed that the correlation between calculated and measured rose LA was very high. A new microsporidium was observed in the flying fish Cypselurus pinnatibarbatus japonicus (Franz) (Exocoetidae) from Yakushima, Japan. Visual examination revealed the microsporidium to form white elongate nodules in the host's trunk muscle. Monomorphic spores were ovoid to pyriform in shape, with average dimensions of 4.1 × 2.2 µm and possessing a polar tube describing 13-15 coils. Histological observations showed that each parasite focus of infection was encapsulated by a host-produced fibrous membrane. The presence of sporophorous vesicles was not clearly determined. Ribosomal DNA sequence analyses showed the microsporidium to be discrete from other known fish muscle-infecting species and to be most closely related to a clade comprising the Pleistophoridae and Glugea spp. The parasite is provisionally placed as Microsporidium cypselurus sp. n.
The article deals with the Czech lexeme zvíci, which is quite frequently used in contemporary Czech. This type of compound was created in the 14th century; the compound consists of the erstwhile preposition vz- and the noun viecě. The article discusses the formal and semantic changes and the usage of the lexeme zvíci (and similar words) from the Middle Ages to the present time. Many attestations from a synchronic and also diachronic corpus of the Czech language are included.
