Retrospektivní dotazníkové šetření, jehož cílem bylo prokázat, že kouření matek a kouření v domácnostech sledovaných dětí má signifikantní vliv na zvýšení celkové nemocnosti, respiračních infekcí a zánětů středního ucha u dětí do tří let věku, probíhalo v Brně a na jižním Slovensku. Zahrnovalo 120 matek (60 z ČR a 60 z SR) tříletých dětí za spoluúčasti příslušných registrujících praktických pediatrů. Ve sledovaném souboru jsme zaznamenali nejnižší celkovou nemocnost i počet respiračních onemocnění v nekuřáckých domácnostech. Nejvyšší celková nemocnost i počet onemocnění byl v rodinách matek kuřaček, kdy v domácnosti nikdo jiný nekouřil. Studie je v souladu se zahraničními i českými studiemi, které popisují zvýšení nemocnosti a respiračních onemocnění v souvislosti s expozicí tabákovému kouři u dětí do tří let věku., The retrospective data collection whose aim was to prove the effects of smoking associated with the increase of overall illness rate, respiratory infections and the inflammation of the middle ear in children up to the age of 3 living with smoking mothers and in smoking households was carried out in Brno, Czech Republic (CR) and in Southern Slovakia (SR). The study involved 120 mothers of 3 year old children (60 from the CR and 60 from the SR) and the participating practicing pediatricians. The lowest overall illness rate and the lowest number of respiratory diseases was found in the no-smoking families within the monitored group. The highest overall illness rate and the highest number of diseases was encountered in the families of smoking mothers with nobody else smoking in the family. Nadhmotnosť a obezita u detí v školskom veku a adolescencii predstavujú v súčasnosti celosvetový zdravotný problém pútajúci pozornosť nielen odbornej, ale aj laickej verejnosti. Nárast nadhmotnosti a obezity u školskej mládeže je daný nesprávnymi stravovacími návykmi a tiež zníženou pohybovou aktivitou. Projekt Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) je jedna z prvých medzinárodných prierezových štúdií zameraných na zdravie adolescentov a ich správanie súvisiace so zdravím. Cieľom príspevku je prezentovať výskyt nadhmotnosti a obezity u detí v školskom veku a adolescencii v oblasti stredného Slovenska. Respondenti udali výšku a hmotnosť a na základe týchto údajov bol vypočítaný body mass index (BMI). Zber údajov bol realizovaný na 25 základných školách a dvoch osemročných gymnáziách v Žilinskom a Banskobystrickom kraji v období máj až jún 2010. Súbor respondentov tvorilo 1187 žiakov v troch vekových kategóriách: 11-ročných (313 respondentov), 13-ročných (442 respondentov) a 15-ročných (432 respondentov). Na zber údajov bol použitý štandardizovaný dotazník vytvorený pre potreby HBSC štúdie. Zber údajov obsahoval aj demografické údaje: pohlavie, ročník, vek. Signifikantná interakcia dvoch premenných bola hodnotená pomocou Chí-kvadrát testu. Výskyt nadhmotnosti a obezity u školákov v oblasti stredného Slovenska nepresiahol jednu desatinu u dievčat. S vekom klesá výskyt nadváhy a obezity u dievčat (z 8 % u 11-ročných na 6 % u 15-ročných) u chlapcov (z 19 % u 11-ročných na 9 % u 15-ročných). U 13-ročných chlapcov sme zistili štatisticky významne vyšší výskyt obezity (p = 0,003). V skupine 11 a 15-ročných respondentov neboli tieto rozdiely štatisticky signifikantné (11-roční: p = 0,011; 15-roční: p = 0,284). Počet detí v školskom veku a adolescencii s nadhmotnosťou a obezitou na Slovensku, ale aj vo svete neustále stúpa a prináša mnoho zdravotných a psychosociálnych dôsledkov. Dodržiavanie zásad správnych stravovacích návykov a dostatok pohybovej aktivity u školskej mládeže má mimoriadny význam v prevencii vzniku obezity., Overweight and obesity among school-age and adolescent children currently pose a worldwide health problem drawing attention not only of the professional but also general public. The increase of overweight and obesity among school children is the outcome of bad eating habits and reduced physical activity. The Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) project is one of the first international cross-sectional studies focused on teenagers' health and their health-related behaviour. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the occurrence of overweight and obesity in school-age children and adolescents in Central Slovakia. The body mass index (BMI) of respondents was calculated on the basis of given height and weight. Data collection was performed in 25 primary schools and two eight-year grammar schools in the Žilina and Banská Bystrica regions from May to June 2010. The group of respondents consisted of 1187 students in three age categories, 11-year-olds (313 respondents), 13-year-olds (442 respondents) and 15-year-olds (432 respondents). A standardized questionnaire developed for the needs of the HBSC study. Data collection included demographic data: gender, school class and age. Significant interaction of two variables was assessed by using the chi-square test. The occurrence of overweight and obesity among schoolchildren in Central Slovakia did not exceed one tenth amongst schoolgirls. With higher age, the occurrence of overweight and obesity among girls decreases from 8% among 11-year-olds to 6% in 15-year-olds, and from 19% among 11-year-olds to 9% among 15-year-olds in the group of boys. Among 13-year-old boys we found a significantly higher prevalence of obesity (p = 0.003). In the group of 11 and 15-year-olds these differences were not statistically significant (11-year-old: p = 0.011, 15-year-old: p = 0.284). The number of school age children and adolescents with overweight and obesity in Slovakia, but also worldwide, is constantly increasing and brings many health and psychosocial consequences.
