The Czech Republic has a representative in the UN International Law Commission after more than ten years with the election by the UN General Assembly of Pavel Šturma to the post on November 17, 2011. The 34-member UN International Law Commission, established in 1947, is seated in Geneva, Switzerland. It exerts a strong influence on the development of international law. Last time the Czech Republic was represented on the commission was from 1992–1998. Professor Dr. Šturma works at the Institute of the State and Law of the ASCR and also heads the international law department at Faculty of Law at Charles University.
