Description:
A new nematode genus and species, Lucionema balatonense gen. et sp. п., is described from the swimbladder of the European pikeperch, Stizostedion lucioperca (L.), from Lake Balaton in Hungary; a new dracunculoid family Lucionematidae fam. n. is established to accommodate it. The hitherto monotypie family Lucionematidae shows affinities with the families Skrja-billanidae and Daniconematidae, differing from them mainly in having simple oesophagus without external oesophageal glands and the vulva situated near the middle of body; from the first family also in the absence of the buccal capsule and the bursa-like caudal alae in the male. The genus Lucionema gen. n. is characterized mainly by the presence of 8 cephalic papillae in two circlets, absence of spicules, presence of the copulatory plate, only 2 pairs of postanal papillae in the male, and by the distal part of the monodelphic uterus forming a posteriorly directed coil. The body length of L. balatonense females is 1074-1782 pm, that of the only available male 770 pm. A key to the families of the Dracunculoidea is presented.

13. Morphology and taxonomy of Salvelinema species (Nematoda: Cystidicolidae), swimbladder parasites of Pacific area salmonids

The morphology of two Salvelinema Trofimenko, 1962 species, S. salmonicola (Ishii, 1916) and S. walkeri (F.kbaum, 1935), swimbladder nematodes of salmonids, was studied in detail, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), on the basis of newly collected materials from Oncorhynchus masou, О. mykiss and Salvelinus malma from Japan and from Oncorhynchus ciarki, О. kisulch and O. nerka from North America (Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada and Gulf of Alaska). Both nematode species proved to be morphologically very similar, differing substantially in the numbers and arrangements of egg filaments. Deirids were described for the first time for Salvelinema. Salvelinema iwana (Fujita, 1928), S. amemasu (Fujita, 1939), S. kosugii (Fujita, 1939), S. oncorhynchi (Fujita, 1939) and S. salvelini (Fujita, 1939) (= S. ishii (Fujita, 1941)) were synonymised with S. salmonicola. Comephoronema Layman, 1933 is re-erected as a valid genus related to Salvelinema.

Description:
A new nematode, Myleusnema bicumis gen. et sp. п., is described from the intestine of a characoid freshwater fish, Myleus ternetzi (Norman, 1929) (Cypriniformes: Serrasalmidae), from French Guiana. This cosmocercoid nematode species represents a new genus of the family Kathlaniidae, being characterized mainly by the shape of the body (the cephalic portion is separated from the rest of the body at the level of the nerve ring), structure of the cephalic extremity (presence of three lips and three lamella-like formations demarcating the buccal cavity), absence of an oesophageal pharynx, presence of medium-sized alate spicules (0.694-0.721 mm long), two conspicuous postcloacal homs associated with a gubernaculum, and by the number and distribution of caudal papillae in the male.

A new kathlaniid nematode, Myleusnema brasiliense sp. n„ is described from the intestine of a characoid fish, Myleus sp. (Serrasalmidae, Cypriniformes), from Brazil, It differs from the only other congeneric species Myleusnema bicornis Moravec et Thatcher, 1996 mainly in having an unseparated cephalic portion of the body, lips provided with Hanges with numerous spikelike appendages, deirids situated more posteriorly, more numerous (8 pairs) subventral preanal papillae in the male, and distinctly longer spicules (1.58-1.70 mm). The species description is based on light microscopic and scanning electron microscopic (SF,M) observations.

The morphology of the nematode Klossinemella iheringi (Travassos, Artigas et Pereira, 1928), the type species of the genus Klossinemella Costa, 1961, was studied using specimens collected from the serrasalmid fish, Mylesinus paraschomhurgkii légu, Santos et Ferreira, 1989 (a new host record), from the Trombetas River, Para State, Brazil, by both light and scanning electron microscopy. This species was also recorded from the Jari River (Pará State), the Uatuma, Pitinga and Capucapu Rivers (Amazonas State), and the Araguari River (Amapá State). An examination by SEM made it possible, for the first time in this genus, to study in detail the structure of the cephalic end. Characteristic features are the presence of 8 cephalic papillae arranged in two circlets, well developed lateral amphids, and especially a crown of 8 cephalic, Y-shaped sclerotized pieces (outgrowths). The male possesses 8 pairs of caudal papillae (3 preanals, 1 adanal and 4 postanals), two unequal spicules (0.156-0.294 mm and 0.069-0.099 mm long) and a gubemaculum (0.027-0.045 mm in length); previously undescribed deirids were also found. This is the first record of this parasite from the Amazon River basin. The genus Proatractis G. Caballero, 1971 is considered a synonym of Klossinemella Costa, 1961, belonging to the cosmocercoid family Atractidae, and its type species is transferred to the latter genus as Klossinemella parvicapilico-rnnala (G. Caballero, 1971) comb. n.

17. New observations on seuratoid nematodes parasitic in fishes of the Parana River, Brasil

The present paper comprises a systematic survey of nematodes of the superfamily Seuratoidea collected from fishes of the Paraná River, southern Brazil, in 1992-1995. The following species were recorded: Neoparaseuratum travassosi Moravec, Kohn et Fernandes, 1992, Speaalus sp., Seuratoidea gen. sp. larvae, Cucullanus brevispiculus Moravec, Kohn et Fernandes, 1993, C. pinnui pinnai Travassos, Artigas et Pereira, 1928, C. pinnai plemdorasi subsp. n., C. rhamphichthydis sp. n., C. zunga-ro Va/, et Pereira, 1934, and Dichelyne pimelodi sp. n. C. pinnai pterodorasi (type host Plerodoras granulosus) differs from C. p. pinnai in the shape of the oesophagus and in the position of the nerve ring. C. rhamphichthydis (only females) (type host Rhamphichthys rostratus) is characterized mainly by the postoesophageal position of the excretory pore and deirids, complex structure of the cuticular lining of oesophastome and by markedly narrow body, whereas D. pimelodi (one male) (type host Pimelodus sp.) by the length of spicules (1.46 mm), postoesophageal position of the excretory pore and deirids and by the arrangement of genital papillae. Most species are briefly described (females of C. brevispiculus and Seuratoidea gen. sp. larvae for the first time) and illustrated and some problems concerning their taxonomy, hosts and geographical distribution are discussed.

A new cucullanid nematode, Dichelyne mexicanus sp. n., is described from the intestine of three species of fishes, Agonostomus monticola (Bancroft) (Mugilidae, Perciformcs) (type host), Ictalurus balsanus (Jordan et Snyder) (Ictaluridac, Siluriformes) and Cichlasoma beani (Jordan) (Cichlidae, Perciformes), from three rivers (la Maquina River, Veracruz; Chontalcoatlán River, Guerrero and Santiago River, Nayaril) in central Mexico. This species is characterised by the absence of a ventral sucker in the male (subgenus Dichelyne) and it differs from its congeners mainly in possessing very unequal and dissimilar spicules (left 0.465-0.768 mm and right 293-548 mm long), an asymmetrical gubernaculum, and two intestinal caeca. Another cucullanid nematode, Cucullanus cabaUeroi Petter, 1977, is reported from Dormitator maculalus (Bloch) (Eleotridae, Perciformes) from the La Palma and La Maquina Rivers and Balzapote stream, Veracruz, being briefly described and illustrated; this represents a new host record. Findings of D. mexicanus and C. cabalteroi represent a new record of cucullanid nematodes from fishes in Mexican fresh waters.

Description:
The nematode Rhabdochona anguillae Spaul, 1927, a specific intestinal parasite of the European eel, Anguilla anguilla (L.), is redescribed and illustrated from specimens collected from eels of the Sousa River, northern Portugal (prevalence 20%, intensity 2-13). The species is characterized by the presence of 14 anterior teeth in the prostom, small non-bifurcate deirids, absence of lateral preanal papillae, by the length (0.460-0.660 and 0.130-0.150 mm) and the shape of spicules, fairly large (0.041-0.054 x 0.025-0.030 mm) mature eggs without filaments, and by the bluntly pointed to rounded tip of the tail. Its morphological features are discussed in relation to other congeneric species. This nematode has hitherto been recorded only from eels in southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria).
