Is it time for synthethics? The first genome of the phage φX174 was sequenced in 1977 and 26 years later genome of this very same phage was synthesize from scratch. The researches have realized that we are capable not only reading the genomes, but writing them as well. Dr. Venter published creating of the first bacteria with the synthetic 1,08Mbp genome in 2010. This bacteria was subsequently nicknamed Mycoplasma laboratorium and a with this organism, completely new field of bioethics, so called synth-ethics was established. Albeit there are some ethical concerns, the author of this text do not see any weighty arguments against creating such a creature, neither from the perspective of secular ethics, nor from the point of view Jewish and Christian faith.
