At the beginning of the 18th century, numerous printing workshops were founded in the Czech countryside. On the example of the Znojmo printing workshop, the text follows the establishment of a new workshop in the region; it asks questions about the reasons for it and tries to define groups of the workshop’s customers and to determine the possible share of the printing production in the transformation of the society at that time. The article is divided into two complementary parts. The small Znojmo workshop is first presented through its owners whose fates were decisive for its functioning; on the basis of archival research, the existing picture of its operation is then corrected and complemented by means of contextualised biographical explanation. The second section provides, building on the analysis of extant printed books, the typology of their commissioners and presents the range of the workshop’s publications. Based on these analyses, the concluding part attempts to answer the questions raised above and outline the research directions that should complement the existing results. Besides the detailed description of the workshop’s production, the article presents the relations of the workshop to Moravian and partly also Lower Austrian printing workshops, the basic features of the distribution network, as well as the structure of the printed books published not to order but at the initiative and risk of the printer., Jiří Dufka., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
In his article, Jaroslav Anděl traces the changes that took place in both art and science in the Czech Lands in the course of the 19th century. In the works and commentaries of such painters as Karel Purkyně or Soběslav Pinkas, he finds early signals of the emergence of modern art. Even the scientific findings of Karel Purkyně’s father, J. E. Purkyně, a renowned natural scientist of his era, divulge links to modern art-forms, such as cinematography. The exchange between art and science is apparent, for example, in the geological inspiration for Adolf Kosárek’s paintings. What is particular about such works and scientific endeavors is their disruption of the static imagery and emphasis on the flow of time. The rise of urbanism and, consequently, of individualism, brought the passing and linear conception of time to the fore. Anděl claims that this “discovery of time” was a crucial element in constituting both the modern artist and critic., Jaroslav Anděl., and Obsahuje bibliografii
This is a review of individual contributions in an essay volume that comes out of a conference held in Oldenburg, Germany, in 2005. The reviewer praises them as thoroughly inspirational works, which are mature in terms of their knowledge of the facts and interpretations, and, for Czech readers, remarkable. The volume is the brainchild of Eva and Hans Henning Hahn, who in their earlier publications challenged established interpretations of Sudeten-German history. Here too they show themselves to be original scholars.
Záměr. Příspěvek prezentuje českou verzi amerického dotazníku časové perspektivy (Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory – ZTPI). Soubor a procedura. Autoři uzavírají, že česká verze dotazníku ZTPI je použitelná v psychologickém výzkumu i praxi. and ZTPI – Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory – Czech validization study
Objectives. The article introduces the Czech version of the ZTPI - Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory. The results of 2030 respondents are compared to those from the original American version as well as to results of translated versions, namely, the Lithuanian, French and Spanish translations of ZTPI. The attention is focused on the psychometric qualities of the questionnaire.
Subjects and setting. The Czech version of the ZTPI - Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory was administered in 2003 and 2008 to representative samples in the Czech Republic (N2003=992; N2008=1038).
Statistical analysis. The internal consistency (Cronbach alpha) was investigated and the questionnaire structure was verified by a confirmatory factor analysis. Additionally, a detailed item analysis and an exploratory factor analysis were performed.
Results. The internal consistency (Cronbach alpha) of individual scales ranged from 0.66 to 0.85. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed some discrepancies between the obtained Czech data and the questionnaire structure; these results were comparable to those obtained by the culturally closest, Lithuanian, version of ZTPI. Several problematical items were identified (some of the items were reported to be -problematical also in other translated versions). Detailed analyses helped to explain occasional unexpected empirical manifestation, they mostly concerned items with a lower weight in the original version of ZTPI. The authors conclude that despite some irregularities this Czech version of ZTPI is suitable for both psychological research and practical applications.
Monografie navazuje na předešlou Kopečkovu práci Éra nevinnosti: Česká politika 1989-1997 (Brno, Barrister & Principal 2010) a pojednává o okolnostech a důsledcích takzvané opoziční smlouvy, kterou po volbách v roce 1998 uzavřely dvě největší české politické strany - sociální demokracie pod vedením Miloše Zemana a Občanská demokratická strana v čele s Václavem Klausem - o podmínkách tolerance Zemanovy vlády Klausovou opozicí. Přes až přílišnou závislost na žurnalistických pramenech představuje Deformace demokracie? podle recenzenta spolu s autorovou předešlou publikací základní syntézu o českém politickém vývoji po pádu komunistického režimu., The publication under review, whose title translates as "A deformation of democracy? The opposition agreement and Czech politics, 1998-2002", follows on from Kopeček´s Éra nevinnosti: Česká politika 1989-1997 (The age of innocence. Czech politics 1989-97, Brno: Barrister a. Principal, 2010). It is concerned with the circumstances and consequences of what was popularly known as the Opposition Agreement, which, after the general elections of 1998, was signed by the two largest Czech political parties - the Social Democratic Party, led by Miloš Zeman (b. 1944), and the Civic Democratic Party, led by Václav Klaus (b. 1941) - and concerns the terms and conditions under which the Klaus-led opposition would tolerate the Zeman-led government. The focus of this political-science interpretation is not only the main actors of the agreement but also the large opposition to it. The latter ultimately succeeded in preventing the pact from leading to a system run by only two parties. Despite its excessive dependence on journalistic sources, the publication, according to the reviewer, constitutes, together with the author´s preceding volume, a fundamental work on Czech political developments since the collapse of the Communist regime., [autor recenze] Petr Roubal., and Obsahuje bibliografii a bibliografické odkazy
