V obsáhlém zhodnocení recenzent konstatuje, že jde o závažnou publikaci, která bude nepochybně plnit úlohu jednoho z klíčových autoritatiních textů k československým právním dějinám v letech 1948 až 1989, a že uvedené námitky a výtky by neměly převážit nad zřejmými pozitivy knihy. Jeho kritika míří na nedefinované základní pojmy, s nimiž autoři této kolektivní monografie pracují, na problematická kritéria výběru autorského kolektivu, záměrně opomíjející starší generaci autorů, a především na v díle přítomný „delegitimizační diskurz“ ve vztahu ke komunistickému období, jehož cílem je demaskovat tehdejší režim, poukázat na jeho zvrácené aspirace a morálně ho odsoudit.
