Elucidating segregation of precipitation in different components in forest stands is important for proper forest ecosystems management. However, there is a lack of information on important rainfall components viz. throughfall, interception and stemflow in forest watersheds particularly in developing countries. We therefore investigated the spatiotemporal variation of important component of throughfall for a forest stand in a Hyrcanian plain forest in Noor City, northern Iran. The study area contained five species of Quercus castaneifolia, Carpinus betulus, Populus caspica and Parrotia persica. The research was conducted from July 2013 to July 2014 using a systematic sampling method. Ninetysix throughfall collectors were installed in a 3.5 m × 3.5 m grid cells. The canopy covers during the growing/leaf-on (i.e., from May to November) and non-growing/leaf-off (i.e., from December to March) seasons were approximately 41% and 81%, respectively. The mean cumulative throughfall during the study period was 623±31 mm. The average throughfall (TF) as % of rainfall (TFPR) during leaf-on and leaf-off periods were calculated 56±14% and 77±10%, respectively. TF was significantly (R2 = 0.97, p = 0.00006) correlated with gross precipitation. Percent of canopy cover was not correlated with TF except when gross precipitation was <30 mm. A comparison between leaf-off and leaf-on conditions indicated a significantly higher TFPR and corresponding hotspots during leaf-on period. TFPR also differed between seasons with a maximum amount in winter (82%). The results of the study can be effectively used by forest watershed managers for better perception of hydrological behavior of the Hyrcanian forest in the north of Iran under different silvicultural circumstances leading to getting better ecosystem services.
In this paper I will present an argument that the view of species having the ontological status of individuals implies that species actually have the ontological status of classes, despite the fact that the representatives of the view that species are individuals (or SAI) claim the contrary. Representatives of the SAI view try to argue that species cannot be classes because classes cannot change. I will show that, according to the representatives of the SAI view, groups of organisms must fulfill four necessary conditions in order to be treated as species. They must be: 1. integrated and continuous spatiotemporal genealogical lineages of organisms that are their constituent elements; 2. separated from the continuous genealogical lineage, from the last known common ancestor to modern organisms, by evolutionary unity; 3. made up of organisms going through the same or similar evolutionary processes; 4. groups of organisms whose members reproduce sexually. I will also show that when these conditions are compared to the list of extrinsic essential properties made by Caplan and Devitt it will be apparent that they are the same. In conclusion I will argue that if, under the SAI view, one of the necessary conditions that groups of organisms must fulfill in order to be treated as species is that members of the species must reproduce sexually, then each member of the species must possess the same specific mate recognition system or SMRS, which in turn makes SMRS an intrinsic essential property of each member of the species. What follows from this is that, according to the species and individuals view, species are in fact classes. and V tomto příspěvku předkládám argument, že názor druhu, který má ontologický status jednotlivce, naznačuje, že druhy skutečně mají ontologický status tříd, navzdory skutečnosti, že zástupci názoru, že druhy jsou jednotlivci (nebo SAI) . Zástupci názoru SAI se snaží tvrdit, že druhy nemohou být třídy, protože se třídy nemohou měnit. Ukážeme, že podle zástupců názoru SAI musí skupiny organismů splňovat čtyři nezbytné podmínky, aby byly považovány za druhy. Musí to být: 1. integrované a nepřetržité vesmírné směrové genealogické počty organismů, které jsou jejich složkami; 2. odděleno od kontinuálního genealogického počinu, od posledního známého společného předka moderním organismům, evoluční jednotou; 3. složený z organismů procházejících stejnými nebo podobnými evolučními procesy; 4. skupiny organismů, jejichž členové reprodukují sexuálně. Budu také ukázat, že když jsou tyto podmínky porovnány se seznamem hlavních vnějších vlastností, které vytvořily Caplan a Devitt, bude zřejmé, že jsou stejné. Závěrem se domnívám, že pokud podle názoru SAI je jednou z nezbytných podmínek, které musí skupiny organismů splnit, aby se s nimi zacházelo jako s druhem, je to, že členové druhu musí reprodukovat sexuálně, pak každý člen druhu musí mít stejnýspecifický systém rozpoznávání matek nebo SMRS, což zase dělá SMRS podstatnou základní vlastností každého člena druhu. Z toho vyplývá, že podle pohledu druhů a jednotlivců jsou druhy ve skutečnosti třídy.
The paper deals with the effects of agricultural soils management on surface runoff in winter and early spring period. Cryogenic processes that take place in soils can cause temporary reduction of infiltration capacity of soil. In the periods of snow-thawing and rain these phenomena induce conditions promoting the occurrence of surface runoff and floods. Effects of agricultural soils management on surface runoffs were studied at the research station in BrnoKníničky, Czech Republic, from 1965 to 2002. The aim of this research was to find out the differences between the winter surface runoff from experimental plots under winter wheat crop sown after plowing and under perennial forage crops without tillage. On soils without plowing, the decrease of soil infiltration rate occurred faster and was more intensive than on loose soils. During ten winter periods the average surface runoff from perennial forages was significantly higher (2.05 times) than from wheat crop (runoff coefficients 0.239 vs. 0.489). and Příspěvek se zabývá hodnocením vlivu kultivace zemědělských půd na povrchové odtoky v zimním a předjarním období. Kryogenní procesy v půdách mohou způsobovat dočasnou redukci jejich infiltrační rychlosti. V obdobích tání sněhu a dešťů vytváří podmínky pro výskyt povrchového odtoku a povodní. V letech 1965-2002 byl sledován na výzkumné stanici v Brně-Kníničkách vliv kultivace zemědělských půd na povrchové odtoky. Cílem tohoto výzkumu bylo najít rozdíly mezi zimními povrchovými odtoky z pokusných ploch s ozimou pšenicí vysetou po orbě a s víceletými pícninami bez zpracovaní půdy. Na půdách bez orby došlo k redukci infiltrační rychlosti rychleji a tato redukce byla intenzivnější než na kyprých půdách po orbě. Během deseti hodnocených zimních období byl povrchový odtok z víceletých pícnin průkazně vyšší (2,05 krát) než z pšenice. Průměrný koeficient povrchového odtoku u ozimé pšenice dosáhl hodnoty 0,239 a u víceletých pícnin 0,489.
The paper presents the results of research of surface water and sediment contamination by the specific pollutants in the Klabava River Basin, subcatchment of Vltava River in Central Bohemia, Czech Republic. The analysis of spatial and temporal dynamics of the contamination is based on the water and sediment chemistry data from the long-term monitoring maintained by the Vltava River Authority completed by the own monitoring established in the Klabava River basin. The research revealed that the most important water and sediment contamination loads are mainly concentrated in the industrial area between cities Hrádek and Rokycany situated on downstream of the river basin. The performed analysis identified the cadmium as the most critical parameter as its concentrations in surface water exceeded the references limits up to several hundred times. However, pollution with the specific organic substances was still below the critical limit, except for the AOX indicator. The results of sample-taking in the river basin allowed analyzing the effect of extreme flood in August 2002 on the changes in the sediment load by heavy metals. Contaminated sediments were mostly washed out by the inundation and this resulted in significantly lower values than were observed in the previous seasons. Repeated observations however indicate that the pollution concentrations are gradually reaching their original values. and Článek představuje výsledky výzkumu znečištění povrchových vod a sedimentů specifickým znečištěním v povodí Klabavy. Analýza vychází z dostupných dat o chemismu vody a plavenin ze sledování podniku Povodí Vltavy a z vlastních dat získaných rozbory vzorků odebraných na síti účelově zřízených profilů. Pro hodnocení chemismu sedimentů byly použity standardní metody - porovnání s pozaďovými hodnotami geogenního prostředí podle Turekiana a Wedepohla a zatřídění do tříd jakosti podle Igeo. Z výsledků vyplývá, že zatížení vody i sedimentů je soustředěno zejména do oblasti průmyslového a sídelního uskupení mezi Hrádkem a Rokycany. Varovné jsou zde především koncentrace kadmia ve vodě, které v této oblasti překračují referenční hodnoty i několiksetkrát, silnou zátěž potvrzují i analýzy sedimentu. Znečištění specifickými organickými látkami s výjimkou ukazatele AOX nedosahuje kritických hodnot. Výsledky vlastních odběrů umožnily rovněž zhodnotit vliv povodně v srpnu 2002 na změnu zátěže sedimentů. Kontaminované sedimenty byly povodní vyplaveny a hodnoty, naměřené bezprostředně po povodni, jsou výrazně nižší než v předchozím období. Díky pokračující zátěži se však postupně vrací k původním hodnotám.
Both drainage and surface stream runoff and water quality were measured on drained sites in the upper part of the Cerhovický potok catchment (Beroun district, Czech Republic). A few extreme precipitation - runoff situations were observed over the period 1994-1999, of which a flood wave with the fourth highest peak runoff was monitored and evaluated in detail as to the concentrations of nitrate both in the stream runoff and in the drainage discharge. In addition, average annual concentrations and average annual nitrate yields in the runoff from drained agricultural lands and undrained, prevailingly forest lands were estimated on the basis of regular monthly monitoring. In the course of the fourth highest runoff wave, the quality of water was sampled frequently and soil moisture contents and groundwater levels were also measured. The concentrations of nitrate and the specific yield of nitrate (kg d-1 ha-1) in the runoff generated on different sites were compared. It was found that, during extreme flows, the specific yield of nitrate [kg day-1 ha-1] in drainage runoff from agricultural lands exceeds 6.3 times the specific yield of nitrate [kg day-1 ha-1] in surface runoff from the entire catch-ment. The nitrate concentrations did not vary much in time during the extreme flow event. The leaching of nitrate was particularly intensive during the non-vegetation period, due to a higher water saturation of the soil. Some technical and agronomic measures for reduction of nitrate yields during high flow periods are discussed. and Na odvodněných pozemcích povodí Cerhovického potoka (okr. Beroun) byly dlouhodobě sledovány povrchové a drenážní odtoky a jejich kvalita. V období 1994 - 1999 se vyskytlo několik extrémních srážkoodtokových situací, z nichž čtvrtá nejvyšší odtoková vlna byla podrobně monitorována a vyhodnocena z hlediska koncentrace dusičnanů, jak ve vodách v toku, tak z plochy odvodněné. Na základě pravidelného měsíčního monitoringu byla vyhodnocena průměrná roční koncentrace dusičnanů ve vodách odtékajících ze zemědělsky a lesnicky využívaných pozemků. Současně byly měřeny vlhkosti půdy a sledovány hladiny podzemní vody. Odnosy a koncentrace NO3 byly porovnány podle jednotlivých charakteristických ploch a bylo zjištěno, že v době extrémních průtoků převyšuje specifický odnos dusičnanů z drenáže 6,3-krát specifické odnosy[kg den-1 ha-1] ve vodách z celého povodí. Koncentrace NO3 se v průběhu odtokové vlny příliš nemění. Proces vyplavování dusičnanů je v důsledku vyššího stavu nasycení půd vodou intenzivní zejména v mimovegetační době. V diskusi jsou uvedena některá technická a agrotechnická opatření, jimiž lze vyplavování dusičnanů v době vyšších odtoků snížit.
Stabilisation of banks is a very important, but often disregarded stage of setting a newly built water structure in operation. The descibed type of stabilisation creates in-time appropriate bank reinforcement (here, regardless the dam) that may prevent creation and development of subsequent abrasive or erosive damage. Here are presented first experiences with the stabilisation use of so called ''earth armour'' in an interaction with a root system of suitable woody plants on an operational experimental surface. This surface is the endangered, at present already very abraded shore of the Bílovec irrigation reservoir in South Moravia. and Stabilizace břehů je velmi důležitou, mnohdy však podceňovanou součástí uvedení nově budovaného vodního díla do provozu. Právě včasná stabilizace, tedy realizace vhodného opevnění břehů (nemluvíme zde o hrázi) může zabránit vzniku a rozvoji následného abrazního, či erozního poškození. Příspěvek prezentuje první zkušenosti se stabilizačním využitím tzv. ''zemní armatury'' za spolupůsobení kořenového systému vhodných dřevin na provozované experimentální ploše. Touto plochou je ohrožené a dnes již silně abradované pobřeží závlahové nádrže Bílovec na jižní Moravě.
Catastrophic impact of floods is the result of an interaction between extreme hydrologic events and environmental, social and economic processes. Therefore, an integrated approach to flood management plays an important role in sustainable development. Such an approach requires a team comprising experts from the fields of hydrology and water resources, nature protection, risk management, human security, municipalities, economics and land use. The estimations of experts can serve for finding a solution to specific YES/NO problems and for estimating the value of specific attributes or parameters. In order to measure and evaluate the level of agreement between experts, a newly developed method for assessing the level of agreement and the value of τ-agreement, based on the Shannon theory of entropy, was applied. The use of such fuzzy-group-agreement decision making procedure, involving a broad range of stakeholders, is illustrated by the Flood Control Case Study, Zarosice, Czech Republic. In the case study of the Zdrava Voda catchment, where a part of the urbanised territory of the Zarosice village suffered from periodical flooding, a group of experts analysed the catchment data, focusing particularly on designed rainfall data. The KINFIL model was subsequently applied. and Katastrofální dopad povodní je výsledkem vzájemné interakce extrémních hydrologických událostí a environmentálních, sociálních a ekonomických procesů. Z tohoto důvodu je integrovaný přístup k řešení protipovodňové ochrany důležitou součástí trvale udržitelného rozvoje. Tento přístup vyžaduje tým odborníků z oborů hydrologie a vodního hospodářství, ochrany přírody, řízení rizik (risk managementu), bezpečnosti osob, samosprávy, ekonomiky a hospodářského využití půdy. Názory těchto odborníků slouží k nalezení odpovědi na specifické otázky typu ano/ne, případně ke stanovení přesných hodnot parametrů. Pro měření a vyhodnocení konsenzu odborníků je použita nová metoda pro stanovení míry souhlasu a hodnoty τ-agreement vycházející z Shannonovy teorie entropie. Metoda je popsána na případové studii prováděné v části katastru obce Žarošice, která je často zaplavována. Tým expertů, zahrnující široké spektrum zainteresovaných subjektů, se zaměřil na dostupné informace o povodí, zejména na návrhové srážky, které byly následně vstupem do matematického srážko-odtokového modelu KINFIL.
