Od vyhlášení první chráněné krajinné oblasti (CHKO) v České republice v loňském roce uplynulo 60 let, od formulování prvního uceleného návrhu na zřízení soustavy velkoplošných chráněných území dokonce 100 let. V září 2014 byla vyhlášena nová CHKO Kokořínsko - Máchův kraj, přesněji řečeno dosavadní CHKO Kokořínsko byla rozšířena o přírodovědecky pozoruhodné Dokesko. V současnosti probíhá vyhlašování CHKO Brdy. Je tedy na místě si položit otázku, zda poté bude soustava CHKO v ČR již úplná., Sixty years passed in 2014 since the announcement of the first landscape park in the Czech Republic and a hundred years since the formulation of the first integrated plan to set up a system of large-scale landscape parks. In September 2014 a new Kokořínsko-Mácha country landscape park was announced, or to be more precise the former Kokořínsko landscape park was expanded to include the Doksy district, which is of interest from a natural-sciences viewpoint. At present the preparations for the Brdy landscape park are nearing completion. This article presents these two landscape parks and discusses whether or not the landscape park system in the Czech Republic will now be complete., and Pavel Pešout.
The factors that affect oviposition and consequently spatial distribution of the galls of many gall makers are poorly understood. Knowledge of these factors could result in a better understanding of the mechanisms that initiate and regulate the development of galls. We tested the hypotheses that, regardless of tree height, galls of Cynips quercusfolii L. produced agamically are distributed randomly in the crowns and on the veins of leaves of oak trees. This study was done in Poland on 15 pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) trees of various heights. We measured the areas of 1659 leaves, including 192 leaves with galls, and the distances along a vein from a gall to the petiole and from gall to leaf edge. The number of galls did not depend on tree height but depended on the position of the leaf within the crown (upper or lower). Regardless of the position in the crown, leaves with galls were significantly larger than those without galls. We conclude that galls were located at a fixed distance from the edge of leaves irrespective of leaf size, but the distance from the gall to the leaf petiole depended significantly on leaf size. We conclude that agamic females of C. quercusfolii prefer large leaves and choose the site on a leaf on which to deposit their eggs. Although the sizes of the geographical ranges of plant and animal species are of major interest to macroecologists, the spatial distributions and environmental correlates of only a small group of animals and plants are well studied. Here data on the spatial distributions of 116 European clearwing moths (Sesiidae) was used to determine the patterns in spatial distribution, postglacial colonization and endemism. The spatial distributions of sesiids are significantly more coherent and there are fewer isolated occurrences and unexpected absences than predicted by a random sample null model. After correcting for environmental correlates, islands and mainland countries did not differ significantly in the number of species with small ranges. Polyphagous wood attending species were more widespread than those with other life histories. Species of Siberian origin had wider ranges than those of Mediterranean origin. Nestedness and species co-occurrence analysis did not support a unidirectional postglacial colonization from a Southern European refuge but colonization from both Southern and Eastern Europe. and Werner Ulrich, Marek Bąkowski, Zdeněk Laštůvka.
1_Prey preferences and feeding-related behaviour of a Central European species of Scydmaeninae, Euconnus pubicollis, were studied under laboratory conditions. Results of prey choice experiments involving 50 species of mites belonging to 24 families of Oribatida and one family of Uropodina demonstrated that beetles feed mostly on ptyctimous Phthiracaridae (over 90% of prey) and only occasionally on Achipteriidae, Chamobatidae, Steganacaridae, Oribatellidae, Ceratozetidae, Euphthiracaridae and Galumnidae. The average number of mites consumed per beetle per day was 0.27 ± 0.07, and the entire feeding process took 2.15–33.7 h and showed a clear linear relationship with prey body length. Observations revealed a previously unknown mechanism for capturing prey in Scydmaeninae in which a droplet of liquid that exudes from the mouth onto the dorsal surface of the predator’s mouthparts adheres to the mite’s cuticle. Morphological adaptations associated with this strategy include the flattened distal parts of the maxillae, whereas the mandibles play a minor role in capturing prey. Mechanisms for overcoming the prey’s defences depended on the body form of the mite. Ant assemblages were studied in Warsaw in the context of the effects of urban pressure. Four types of urban greenery were selected: (1) green areas bordering streets, (2) in housing estates, and (3) in parks, and (4) patches of urban woodland. In total, there were 27 species of ants. In terms of the total ant activity density, Lasius niger predominated in all the the lawn biotopes (1–3) and Myrmica rubra in the wooded areas. Ant species diversity was highest in parks and wooded areas and lowest in green areas bordering streets. In contrast, activity density was highest in green areas bordering streets and lowest in wooded areas. Some species are found only in a few habitats. Stenamma debile, Lasius brunneus, L. fuliginosus and Temnothorax crassispinus almost exclusively occurred in wooded areas, whereas L. niger was most often found in lawn biotopes. Myrmica rugulosa and Tetramorium caespitum were most abundant in green areas bordering streets, while in parks Lasius flavus, Formica cunicularia and Solenopsis fugax were most abundant. In general, the ant assemblages recorded showed a significantly nested pattern, with biotope type being a significant determinant of nestedness. The assemblages found in green areas in housing estates and bordering streets constituted a subsample of the assemblages in parks and wooded areas. Ant species were non-randomly distributed in this urbanized landscape and the species recorded in the most transformed biotopes constitute subsamples of those inhabiting less transformed biotopes. Cistus salvifolius L. is the most widely spread Cistus species around the Mediterranean basin. It colonizes a wide range of habitats growing from sea level to 1,800 m a.s.l., on silicolous and calcicolous soils, in sun areas as well as in the understory of wooded areas. Nevertheless, this species has been mainly investigated in term of its responsiveness to drought. Our aim was to understand which leaf traits allow C. salvifolius to cope with low-light environments. We questioned if biochemical and physiological leaf trait variations in response to a reduced photosynthetic photon flux density were related to leaf morphological plasticity, expressed by variations of specific leaf area (SLA) and its anatomical components (leaf tissue density and thickness). C. salvifolius shrubs growing along the Latium coast (41°43'N,12°18'E, 14 m a.s.l., Italy) in the open and in the understory of a Pinus pinea forest, were selected and the relationships between anatomical, gas exchange, chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence, and biochemical parameters with SLA and PPFD variations were tested. The obtained results suggested long-term acclimation of the selected shrubs to contrasting light environments. In high-light conditions, leaf nitrogen and Chl contents per leaf area unit, leaf thickness, and Chl a/b ratio increased, thus maximizing net photosynthesis, while in shade photosynthesis, it was downregulated by a significant reduction in the electron transport rate. Nevertheless, the increased pigment-protein complexes and the decreased Chl a/b in shade drove to an increased light-harvesting capacity (i.e. higher actual quantum efficiency of PSII). Moreover, the measured vitality index highlighted the photosynthetic acclimation of C. salvifolius to contrasting light environments. Gloiopeltis furcata (Postels & Ruprecht) J. Agardh, a macroalga, which grows in an upper, intertidal zone, can withstand drastic environmental changes caused by the periodic tides. In this study, the photosynthetic and morphological characteristics of G. furcata were investigated. The photosynthetic performance and electron flows of the thalli showed significant variations in response to desiccation and salinity compared with the control group. Both PSII and PSI activities declined gradually when the thalli were under stress. However, the electron transport rate of PSI showed still a low value during severe conditions, while the rate of PSII approached zero. Furthermore, PSI activity of the treated thalli recovered faster than PSII after being submerged in seawater. Even though the linear electron flow was inhibited by DCMU [3-(3, 4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea], the cyclic electron flow could still be restored. The rate of cyclic electron flow recovery declined with the increasing time of dark treatment, which suggested that stromal reductants from starch degradation played an important role in the donation of electrons to PSI. This study demonstrated that PSII was more sensitive than PSI to desiccation and salinity in G. furcata and that the cyclic electron flow around PSI played a significant physiological role. In addition, G. furcata had branches, which were hollow inside and contained considerable quantities of funoran. The specificity factor of Rubisco (S f) was estimated in intact leaves from the carboxylation of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) at various CO2/O2 ratios. As oxygenation is calculated by the difference of the 14CO2 uptake by RuBP in the absence and presence of oxygen, it is important to choose the optimum CO2/O2 ratios. At high CO2 concentration (1,000 cm3 m-3 and higher) oxygenation consumes less than 50% RuBP but the difference of concentrations of CO2 at cell walls (Cw) and at the carboxylation centers (Cc) is 2-5% and the influence of mesophyll resistance
(rmd) is of minor importance. To accumulate large endogenous pool of RuBP, the leaves were preilluminated in the CO2- and
O2-free gas environments for 8 to 10 s. Thereafter the light was switched off and the leaves were flushed with the gas containing different concentrations of 14CO2 and O2. The specificity factor of Rubisco was calculated from the amount of the tracer taken up under different 14CO2/O2 ratios by the exhaustion of the RuBP pool. Šplhalka keřová (Anyphaena accentuata) je jedním z mála evropských zástupců čeledi Anyphaenidae. Jde o středně velkého pavouka s charakteristickou kresbou na hřbetě zadečku. Vyskytuje se na keřích a stromech, kde pátrá po své kořisti. Samci provozují neobvyklé námluvy: svými makadly a prvním párem nohou bubnují na úkryt samice a zároveň vibrují svým zadečkem, čímž vyluzují bzučivý zvuk. Šplhalka keřová se vyskytuje v teplomilných listnatých lesích, především v nižších polohách., The species Anyphaena accentuata, one of the few European representatives of the Anyphaenidae family, occur mainly in deciduous forests, in lowland areas. This medium-size spider with a characteristic colour pattern on the dorsal side of abdomen climbs bush and tree vegetation where it searches for its prey. The males exhibit an unusual mating behaviour. In some species of insects, individuals with fully developed wings and capable of flying coexist with flightless individuals that lack functional wings. Their diets may differ if long-winged individuals are more mobile and therefore likely to be better at finding and utilizing high quality food resources, or if they have different food preferences or physiological requirements. Despite its potential importance, differences in the diet of dispersal phenotypes have not been unequivocally demonstrated under natural conditions. To test for dietary divergence, we compared natural abundances of carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios (d13C and d15N) in long- and short-winged free ranging Tetrix subulata pygmy grasshoppers collected as adults from two natural populations. Overall, this comparison of stable isotopes indicated long-term differences in the diet of the two wing morphs in both populations, but not between males and females of the same morph. We conclude that it is likely that the dietary niches of the long winged and flightless individuals differ under natural conditions. This may reduce intra-specific competition, offset the expected trade-off between flight capacity and reproduction and promote ecological speciation.
