Animal-free set-up enables a new series of experiments; from basic research describing trophic dependences of ticks to testing anti-tick compounds. Exploiting the cunning use of silicone membrane to mimic a host skin, in combination with perfumes that resemble the scents of a living animal, scientists from the Institute of Parasitology of the Biology Centre of the CAS gradually reveal what makes the tick a parasite. A Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies (TRCCS) has been established in Prague in a cooperative memorandum signed at the Oriental Institute AS CR. The rich resources of Chinese Studies from Taiwan will promote the research resource at the Oriental Institute. Stejnojmenný seminář se z iniciativy Grantové agentury ČR uskutečnil 20. května 2015 v budově Akademie věd na Národní třídě v Praze. Jako hlavní řečníci vystoupili prof. Štěpán Jurajda a doc. Daniel Münich z CERGE-EI (společného pracoviště Univerzity Karlovy a Národohospodářského ústavu AV ČR) a prof. Jaroslav Pánek z Historického ústavu AV ČR. Grantová agentura ČR jako nejvýznamnější poskytovatel účelových finančních prostředků v oblasti základního výzkumu tímto seminářem poukázala na význam společenských a humanitních oborů a na dopad jejich výsledků. The International Year of Planet Earth 2008 provides an unparalleled opportunity to publicize and celebrate the contributions made by Earth Sciences and Earth scientists to our society on a global scale. On this occasion The Council of the Popularization of Science organized in the building of Academy of Science in February a conference where experts of geological sciences emphasized the important progress in understanding the Earth processes over the past decades. The Institute of Art History of the CAS held the third workshop in a series of annual two-week workshops from 13 to 24 July, 2015 that focused on specific topics relating to the conservation and preservation of photographic materials. The workshop took place at the facilities of the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Department of Photography. It examined the environment of photographic materials at several levels, starting from an overview of the building and its systems and progressing to specific exhibition and storage conditions, and the selection of appropriate housing and enclosure materials and techniques.
