Some digeneans and cestodes parasitic in a population of the white-faced ibis Plegadis chihi (Vieillot) from Buenos Aires province, Argentina, arc presented. The digeneans Dietziella egregia (Dietz, 1909), Patagifer bilobus (Rudolphi, 1819), Ascocotyle (Leighia) hadra Ostrowski de Núfiez, 1992 and Posthodiplostomum nanum Dubois, 1937 from the intestine; Prosthogonimus ovatus (Rudolphi, 1803) from the cloaca; Athesmia heterolecithodes (Braun, 1899) from the bile ducts and the cestode Hymenolepis megalops (Nilzsch in Crcplin, 1829) from the cloaca, were recorded. The discovery of D. egregia, P. ovatus, A. heterolecithodes and P. nanum constitute new host and/or new geographical records. Adults of A. (L.) hadra, previously described in experimental definitive hosts, are first reported from a naturally infected bird. Hymenolepis megalops, a cestode of Anseriformes is first reported from Ciconiiforines.
A total of 2,086 specimens of Engraulis anchoita Hubbs ct Marini (Pisces: Engrauiidae), from waters off Argentina and Uruguay were examined lor parasitic digeneans. Four species of digeneans were found, Parahemiurus merits (Linton, 1910) (adult) in the stomach; Lecithochirium microstomum Chandler, 1935 (non-ovigerous and ovigerous juveniles) in the swimbladder; Cardiocephaloides sp. (metacercaria) in the eyes and Rhipidocotyle sp. (metacercaria) in the musculature. These four species are recorded for the first time as parasites of E. anchoita.
Permo-Carboniferous and Cretaceous sediments cover the main tectonostratigraphic units of the crystalline basement in NE Bohemia. Within the activities of “Research Centre for Advanced remedial Technologies and Processes” the Czech Geological Survey revises the boreholes and geophysical investigations in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin and adjacent areas. One part of the research is a compilation of pre-Cretaceous relief of the basement including the crystalline basement and Permo-Carboniferous relief. The digital elevation model uses all boreholes from the Czech Geological Survey-Geofond database, previous geophysical interpretation and the recent surface of the individual geological units defined from detailed geological mapping. Correlation of boreholes and geophysical data provides the framework for 3D modelling of the crystalline basement and the Permo-Carboniferous volcano-sedimentary strata in the Mnichovo Hradiště Basin. The knowledge of depth of the individual interfaces acquired from boreholes database and interpretation of the seismic profiles enabled construction of 3D models. The Stráž crystalline block has bounded the Mnichovo Hradiště Basin on the north, its elongation is in NNW-SSE direction and maximal depth has reached near Sobotka. Its second deepest part known as Mcely or Sukorady sub-basin has been detected southeast of Mladá Boleslav. The negative gravity anomaly in the Mimoň- Český Dub- Turnov- Mnichovo Hradiště area indicated presence of „light“ granitic rocks in the crystalline complex. Moreover, the highest volume of rhyolite ignimbrites with a thickness of up to 180 m is concentrated in Permo-Carboniferous volcano-sedimentary strata in this negative gravity anomaly area, which can be related to a rather deep Late Paleozoic volcanic source (up to a depth of about 10 km)., Zuzana Skácelová, Bedřich Mlčoch and Zuzana Tasáryová., and Obsahuje bibliografii
In our study, the circadian blood pressure (BP) rhythm was studied in subjects with asymptomatic and normotensive pheochromocytoma. We have therefore performed 24-hour BP monitoring not only in 6 subjects with asymptomatic pheochromocytoma, but also in 33 patients with symptomatic pheochromocytoma and in 10 normotensive subjects, who served as a control group. Circadian BP rhythm was expressed by assessing a relative night-time BP decline. We found a similar BP rhythm, catecholamine excretion and tumor size in subjects with both forms of pheochromocytoma. Subjects with asymptomatic pheochromocytoma had a significantly lower night-time systolic BP decline (P=0.01) and diastolic BP decline (P=0.006) than normotensive controls. We conclude that the attenuated night-time BP decline in normotensive and asymptomatic subjects with pheochromocytoma might be a possible sign of partial desensitization of the cardiovascular system to catecholamines., T. Dinocampus coccinellae is a parasitoid wasp usually parasitizing ladybird beetles of the tribe Coccinellini. A field survey conducted between March and November 2016 revealed three hosts of this parasitoid in the Srinagar district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir: two members of the Coccinellini (Oenopia conglobata and Coccinella undecimpunctata) and one of the Chilocorini (Priscibrumus uropygialis). Proportion of the latter (atypical) host that were parasitized was 0.09 and intermediate between that recorded for C. undecimpunctata (0.06) and O. conglobata (0.14). A series of laboratory experiments revealed that while a member of Coccinellini (O. conglobata) was more often attacked by D. coccinellae than a member of Chilocorini (P. uropygialis), the proportions of each species from which parasitoids emerged did not differ significantly. There were no significant differences between D. coccinellae females bred from O. conglobata and P. uropygialis, with respect to selection of the two host species and their suitability for the development of the parasitoid. However, members of the Chilocorini other than P. uropygialis (Chilocorus infernalis and Simmondsius pakistanensis) were rarely attacked by D. coccinellae and parasitoid larvae did not emerge from any of those attacked. During the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union in April 2008, the new Earth Gravitational Model 2008 (EGM08) was released with fully-normalized coefficients in the spherical harmonic expansion of the Earth's gravitational potential complete to degree and order 2159. EGM08 is based on inverse modeling methods that rely on data observed both on the Earth's surface and in space. Forward modeling equations based on Newtonian integrals can be converted into series forms that are compatible with the spherical harmonic description of the geopotential. Namely gravitational potentials of ocean water (fluid masses below the geoid) and topographical masses (solid masses above the geoid) can be formulated and evaluated numerically through spherical harmonic expansions. The potential constituents as well as their radial derivatives can be used for a step known in geodesy and geophysics as gravity field reduction or stripping. The activity of 194 neurons was recorded in three subdivisions of the medial geniculate body (74 neurons in the ventral, 62 in the medial and 44 neurons in the dorsal subdivision, i.e. vMGB, mMGB and dMGB) of guinea pigs anesthetized with ketamine-xylazine. The discharge properties of neurons were evaluated by means of peristimulus time histograms (PSTHs), interval histograms (INTHs) and auto-correlograms (ACGs). In the whole MGB, the most frequent PSTH responses to pure tone stimuli were onset (43 %) or chopper (32 %). The onset responses were mostly present in the vMGB, whereas chopper responses dominated in the dMGB. In the whole MGB Poisson-like and bimodal INTHs were found in 46 % and 40 % of neurons, respectively. The mMGB revealed fewer bimodal and more symmetrical types of INTH. In the whole MGB, 60 % of units were found to have ACGs typical for short bursts (<100 ms), 23 % for long bursts (>100 ms) and 15 % of units fired without bursts. Neurons in the vMGB were characterized by short bursting, whereas those in the mMGB and dMGB expressed more activity in the long bursts. The results demonstrate that the type of information processing in the vMGB, which belongs to the ”primary” auditory system, is different from that in two other subdivisions of the MGB., E. A new species of Lymanopoda Westwood, a cloud forest Neotropical genus of Satyrinae, is described from the páramo grasslands on an isolated, peripheral massif in the Colombian Central Cordillera of the Andes: L. flammigera Pyrcz, Prieto & Boyer, sp. n. The genus Lymanopoda is species-rich (approx. 65 species) and its alpha taxonomy is relatively well researched. Relationships within the genus using molecular data have also been explored. The new species is outstanding for its golden yellow colour in males, not found in any other neotropical Satyrinae. Cladograms were constructed based on COI sequences of 47 species of Lymanopoda (~ 70% of the known species) including 17 from Colombia. The new species segregates in the "tolima" clade, which comprises four other high altitude Colombian species, as well as two from Ecuador. However, it is the comparative analysis of male genitalia, in particular the superuncus and valvae, which identified its closest relatives, thus confirming that genital characters can help refine molecular phylogenies.
