- Description:
- Endemic Sicilian pond turtles Emys trinacris Fritz, Fattizzo, Guicking, Tripepi, Pennisi, Lenk, Joger et Wink were examined for the presence of haemogregarine parasites. The presence of haemogregarines, occurring mainly in the microgametocyte stage (13.2 ± 0.12 μm in length and 6.4 ± 0.52 μm in width), was observed in approximately 9% of the sampled E. trinacris. Based on the observed morphology and on the sequencing of nuclear 18S rDNA, we identified the parasite as Haemogregarina stepanowi Danilewsky, 1885. Morphometric study of uninfected and infected red blood cells has shown that H. stepanowi induces different changes in erythrocyte shape depending on the infective stage. The differential count of leukocytes in specimens infected with H. stepanowi showed no significant difference compared with healthy specimens. However, considering the health problems which might be induced by H. stepanowi in the closely related European pond turtle Emys orbicularis (Linneaus), monitoring of the health status of the infected Sicilian populations of E. trinacris is desirable. The restricted distribution of populations of Emys infected with haemogregarines in Sicily is quite puzzling and the possible human-mediated introduction of the parasite in Sicily is briefly discussed., Vincenzo Arizza, Francesco Sacco, Debora Russo, Rita Scardino, Marco Arculeo, Melita Vamberger, Federico Marrone., and Obsahuje bibliografii

- Description:
- Let Ln = K[x1±1,..., xn±1] be a Laurent polynomial algebra over a field K of characteristic zero, Wn:= DerK(Ln) the Lie algebra of K-derivations of the algebra Ln, the so-called Witt Lie algebra, and let Vir be the Virasoro Lie algebra which is a 1-dimensional central extension of the Witt Lie algebra. The Lie algebras Wn and Vir are infinite dimen- sional Lie algebras. We prove that the following isomorphisms of the groups of Lie algebra automorphisms hold: AutLie(Vir) \simeq AutLie(W1) \simeq {±1} \simeq K*, and give a short proof that AutLie(Wn) \simeq AutK-alg(Ln) \simeq GLn(Z) \ltimes K*n., Vladimir V. - Description:
- This paper explores how women’s roles and participation in resistance to Czechoslovak communism from 1968 to the Velvet Revolution serve as a base for Czech feminist thought. By examining three generations of participants through a gendered, Beauvoirian lens, the emergence of feminism can be easily charted through changing perceived gender roles and increased attention to gender issues. After the events of the Prague Spring, women from different groups of the Czechoslovak underground risked their own safety to exercise free speech and expression. Women’s struggles for greater liberties were framed by traditional gender barriers, supposed communist equality, and Western influence. To understand the experiences of female dissidents as a base for Czech feminist thought, one must examine the nature and progression of various underground communities and women’s roles within them. Since 1968, an increased emphasis on women’s freedoms and liberties has helped create a unique, local sense of femininity and feminism., Megan R. Martin., and Obsahuje bibliografii

- Description:
- It is well known that the training level of a muscle belongs to the parameters that affect the H-reflex response amplitude. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of training type on H- and T-reflex response parameters. For this purpose, 20 long-distance athletes (group I, test group), 18 short-distance athletes (group II, test group) and 20 non-trained subjects (group III, control group) were involved in this study in which the H- and T-reflex amplitude and latency values were measured. The H-reflex amplitude and latency values found in groups I, II and III were 3.64±0.28 mV and 26.88±1.45 ms, 3.17±0.26 mV and 26.19±1.89 ms, and 6.07±0.34 mV and 26.77±1.32 ms, respectively. The T-reflex amplitude and latency values of the groups I, II and III were 3.30±0.18 mV and 32.01±1.02 ms, 3.11±0.20 mV and 31.47±1.16 ms, 4.24±0.21 mV and 31.47±1.16 ms, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups with respect to latencies of H- and T-reflexes (p>0.05). In both test groups, the amplitudes of the H-reflex and T-reflex were significantly smaller than the control group (p<0.05). The results of this study suggest that training of muscles affect the H- and T-reflex response parameters., R. Ozmerdivenli, S. Bulut, T. Urat, A. Ayar., and Obsahuje bibliografii

- Description:
- A salvage excavation carried out in Hlinsko quarry in 2006 yielded a collection of Aurignacian-like artifacts supplemented by a bifacial triangular point. Recently, a refitting attempt documented on-site reduction of a carinated burin-core and shaping/thinning of the bifacial point. Subsequently, a use-wear study supported the homogeneity of the assemblage. The assemblage relates to the Morava-type Aurignacian (B. Klíma) or Míškovice-type Upper Paleolithic industry (M. Oliva) previously known in Moravia for lithic assemblages originating only from surface find spots. At the same time, some similar excavated Upper Paleolithic assemblages combining Aurignacian-like and Szeletian-like features are also known in Eastern Europe., Yuri E. - Description:
- The ultrastructural cytology and reproduction of Amphiacantha longa Caullery et Mesnil, 1914 is described. Mcrogonial reproduction was not observed. The sporogony follows two lines: free disporoblastic. and enveloped, polysporoblastic, involving sporoblast mother cells. The enveloped sporogony is endogenous in spore sacs of sporont origin, daughter cells are formed by vacuolation. Probably all stages have coupled nuclei. Both free and enveloped spores are equipped with an extrusion apparatus composed of a flat polar sac, a straight polar filament of manubrium type, and a posterior globular appendix. Manubrium and appendix are enclosed in a membraneous coat. Circular elements of coat material occur in the proximity of the extrusion apparatus. The membraneous coat and the surface layer of the manubrium penetrate the polar sac. The extrusion apparatus is located at the wide pole of the spore, the nuclei at the narrower pole. Hosts are gregarines of the genus Lecudina Mingazzini, living in the gut of the polychaete Lumbrinereis fragilis (O. F. Muller). The cytology and reproduction are discussed and compared to other genera of metchnikovellideans, to the chytridiopsid genera, and to microsporidia expressing the typical cytology for the group. Metchnikovellideans and chytridiopsids exhibit cytological and reproductive similarities. The species is redescribed, the diagnosis of the genus Amphiacantha Caullery et Mesnil, 1914 is emended, and the new family Amphiacanthidae, comprising the genera Amphiacantha and Amphiamblys Caullery et Mesnil, 1914, is established.

- Description:
- This paper combines morphostructural analysis and geophysical methods in order to link the faults monitored inside Strašín Cave with faults and lineaments in the vicinity of the cave. The studied site is situated in SW Bohemia, at the foothills of the Bohemian Forest Mts. Main goal is to combine the morphostructural, morphometrical and geophysical methods in order to identify the fault system, monitored inside the cave. This will allow relevant interpretation of the observed movements in the frame of the local tectonic environment. The results show that the monitored faults are observable in the geophysical profiles and, using our knowledge of the structural setting, we have been able to link them with mapped tectonic structures in the vicinity of the cave. Thus, it has been demonstrated that even where outcrops are absent, the faults can be traced and that the monitored faults are significant enough to yield relevant data on tectonic movements. In addition, the combined resistivity and gravimetry profiles reveal a possible new, presently unknown, cave located 20 m below the surface about 200 m northnortheast of Strašín Cave., Filip Hartvich and Jan Valenta., and Obsahuje bibliografii
