The study aimed to investigate the role of aggression and impulsivity in smoking among male adult students. It was hypothesized that there would be significant difference between smokers and non- smokers on the traits of aggression and impulsivity. The sample of two hundred male adult students was selected from different universities of Islamabad. Two subscales of Impulsiveness and Aggression were administered to measure the personality traits of aggression and impulsivity. Descriptive statistics and t-test was calculated for analysis of data. Results showed that there is significant differences in aggression and impulsivity between smokers and non-smokers. Aldosterone blocker Spironolactone has antiinflammatory, antiproliferative and antioxidative effects, that is why pathogenetically it is expedient to use it in complex therapy of rheumatoid arthritis. Material and methods: 46 patients with RA took 2550 mg/day of Spironolactone during 12 months as an addition to standard therapy, the comparison group consisted of 47 patients that got only standard therapy, all the patients were fully examined prior and post the treatment. Results: complex RA therapy leads to improved VAS, HAQ, the antioxidative potential index F; decreased blood concentrations of TNFα, ICAM1, FGF and VEGF in contrast to standard therapy. Complex therapy made reduced the DAS 28 more > 0.6. Conclusions: applying of Spironolactone in complex therapy of rheumatoid arthritis contributes to more pronounced improvement in indices of articular syndrome and patients life quality, reduce of antiinflammatory, antiproliferative and angiogenic cytokines, and more effectively reduces the activity of the disease comparing to standard therapy., Elena Komarova, Borys Rebrov, and Literatura
The purpose of this study was to investigate the content neurospecific markers protein S-100 and neuroenolaza in blood serum and tear fluid of patients with ocular ischemic syndrome. Material and methods. We observed 43 patients aged 57 to 79 years, mean age 67.3 ± 2.7 years. Control group consisted of 11 volunteers without ophthalmic symptoms. The main group consisted of 32 patients with OIS. The neurospecific proteins S100 and NSE were investigated in blood serum and tear fluid. Results. The study found that in patients of the control group the content of protein were within the normal range: S -100 in the tear fluid – 0,0662 ± 0,00335 mkg/l, in the blood serum 0,0508 ± 0,00241 mkg/l. In patients of the main group the indicators of protein in the tear fluid were elevated in all patients - 3,12 ± 0,246 mkg/l ( p<0.005). The normal evels in blood serum of marker S-100 was in 30 patients - 0,0589 ± 0,00303 mkg/l, while, in 2 patients protein S-100 were raised and averaged 0,2175±0,00725 mkg/l. It was found that in patients of the control group content of protein NSE in the tear fluid and blood serum were within normal values - 15,86 ± 0,148 Ng/ml, 15,60 ± 0,202 Ng/ml respectively. In the main group the amount of protein NSE tended to increase in the tear fluid in 23 patients and averaged 33,012 ± 3,2626 Ng/ml (p<0.005), a significant decrease the quantity of protein was observed in 9 patients, which amounted to 5,166 ± 0,8301 Ng/ml. At normal levels in the blood serum protein NSE detected in 30 patients and averaged 14,48 ± 0,263 Ng/ml, whereas, in 2 patients there was a significant increase of content of protein NSE and was 27,47 ± 3,068 Ng/ml. Conclusions. Cíl: Práce se zabývá porovnáním posturální stability u dvou vybraných souborů probandů, a to u dětí s obezitou a u atletů. Metody: U obou skupin bylo provedeno posturografi cké vyšetření pomocí dvou testů – Limity stability v náklonu tzv. Limits of Stability (LOS) a Senzorický test – Sensory Organisation Test (SOT). Na základě takto získaných výsledků byly porovnány a statisticky vyhodnoceny rozdíly mezi jednotlivými soubory. Výsledky: Práce prokázala významný vliv obezity na individuální posturální stabilitu jedince. Prokázali jsme statisticky signifi kantní rozdíly jak v reakčním čase (RT) a maximální exkurzi při testu LOS, tak i ve volbě pohybových strategií pro udržení posturální stability při testu SOT. Závěry: U dětí s obezitou je, v rámci fyzioterapie, vhodné zaměřit pohybovou aktivitu na zlepšení celkové postury a posturální stability a to např. využitím funkčního tréninku., Aim: The paper deals with the comparison of postural stability in two selected groups of probands: children with obesity and athletes. Methods: Posturographic examination was carried out in both groups through two tests – Limits of Stability (LOS) and Sensory Organization Test (SOT). Variations between individual groups were compared and statistically evaluated based on the acquired results. Results: Obesity as well as overall posture has a signifi cant impact on postural stability. We demonstrated statistically signifi cant variations in reaction time (RT) and maximum excursion in LOS test, and in SOT test in the choice of movement strategies for maintaining postural stability. Cíl: Cílem výzkumného šetření bylo získat informace o protektivních a rizikových faktorech stravování a stravovacích návyků ve vztahu k prevenci kolorektálního karcinomu, a to u záměrně vybrané skupiny adolescentů a dospělých. Výsledky byly porovnávány mezi oběma skupinami a s údaji publikovanými v odborných časopisech. Metodika: Pro výzkum bylo zvoleno kvantitativní dotazníkové šetření za pouţití nestandardizovaného dotazníku vlastní tvorby hodnotícího způsob stravování u obou skupin respondentů. Šetření probíhalo ve dvou záměrně vybraných středních školách a ve čtyřech podnicích v Hradci Králové v období října aţ prosince 2012. Výsledky: Celkem bylo do výzkumného šetření zařazeno 343 respondentů, z toho 123 adolescentů (36 %) a 220 dospělých (64 %). Statistické testování prokázalo, ţe se dospělí stravují kvalitněji neţ adolescenti, přesto však obě skupiny konzumují ovoce a zeleninu v nedostatečném mnoţství a naopak často konzumují červené maso, masné výrobky a potraviny upravené smaţením. Špatné stravovací návyky dosvědčuje i prevalence nadváhy a obezity; 20,4 % dotázaných adolescentů a 63,6 % dospělých má vyšší neţ normální váhu. Třetina adolescentů se navíc stravuje v řetězcích s rychlým občerstvením. Závěr: Zdravá výţiva a vhodné stravovací návyky hrají klíčovou roli v prevenci mnoha onemocnění. Spolu s adekvátní pohybovou aktivitou a nekouřením zásadně sniţují riziko vzniku nejen kolorektálního karcinomu, ale i dalších nádorových i nenádorových onemocnění. Přesto však způsob stravování není ze zdravotního hlediska příznivý a přibývá osob s nadměrnou hmotností., Aim: The aim of the research was to get information about protective and dangerous factors of nutrition and eating habits in relation to the prevention of colorectal cancer. It focuses on intentionally chosen groups of adolescents and adults. The results were compared between both groups of respondents and with information published in professional periodicals. Methods: Quantitative research based on non-standardized questionnaires of own formulation evaluating a way of alimentation of both groups of respondents was chosen. The research took place in two chosen secondary schools and in four companies in Hradec Králové in a period from October to December 2012. Results: The total amount of 343 respondents participated in the research, namely 123 adolescents (36 %) and 220 adults (64 %). Statistical testing has shown that the eating habits of adults are of a higher quality than the eating habits of adolescents. Nevertheless, both groups consume insufficient amount of fruit and vegetables. On the other hand, they frequently consume red meat, meat products and fried food. Bad eating habits are proven even by the quantity of overweight and obesity occurrence; 20,4 % of interviewed adolescents and even 63,6 % of interviewed adults are of a higher than normal weight. Moreover, one third of adolescents eat in fast-foods. Conclusion: Healthy nutrition and correct eating habits play a key role in the prevention of many diseases. Together with adequate physical activity and no smoking they reduce essentially the risk of occurrence not only of colorectal cancer but also of other cancerous and noncancerous diseases. The condition of the protective barrier of the stomach in patients with duodenal ulcer associated and non-associated with H. pylori infection has been studied. The state of gastric mucosal barrier was studied in 72 patients with peptic ulcer disease association with H. pylori and 26 patients without H. pylori by determining the content of insoluble glycoproteins and its fractions in the basal portion of the gastric juice. In a comparative perspective the state of these indicators were studied depending on the association with H. pylori and the severity of the disease. In patients with H. pylori, damages of protective mucus barrier are characterized by the significant shortage of fucose, which is considered to be the main component of the insoluble glycoproteins. In patients without H. pylori, status of mucosal barrier is characterized by uniform and less significant reduction in the content of fractions of insoluble glycoproteins. In this patients the reduction of insoluble glycoproteins is not dependent on the frequency of exacerbation. Cieľ: Cieľom výskumu bolo monitorovať a zhodnotiť rozdiely v hodnotení sledovaných indikátorov kvality ţivota pacientov s proliferatívnou a neproliferatívnou diabetickou retinopatiou. Metodika: Výskumnú vzorku tvorili pacienti s diabetickou retinopatiou (DR) v celkovom počte 80. Prvú skupinu tvorilo 27 pacientov s proliferatívnou diabetickou retinopatiou (PDR) a druhú 53 pacientov s neproliferatívnou diabetickou retinopatiou (NPDR). Komparácia prebiehala v závislosti od typu DR. Zber údajov bol realizovaný štandardizovaným dotazníkom NIE VFQ-25 (National Eye Institute – Visual Function Questionnaire) na Očnom oddelení vo Fakultnej nemocnici s poliklinikou (FNsP) J. A. Reimana v Prešove. Výsledky: T-testom boli u oboch komparovaných skupín pacientov zistené významné rozdiely vo všetkých sledovaných ukazovateľoch kvality ţivota: všeobecný zdravotný stav a zrak, problémy s videním do blízka a do diaľky, vplyv ochorenia na dosahovanie ţivotných cieľov, menšia kontrola nad svojím konaním, obmedzenie dĺţky aktivít, obmedzenie zotrvania iba na domáce prostredie, spoliehanie sa na poskytnuté informácie inými ľuďmi, potreba pomoci od iných ľudí. Záver: Čiastočná alebo úplná strata schopnosti vidieť v súvislosti s diabetom má na kvalitu ţivota diabetika s proliferatívnou diabetickou retinopatiou v holistickom poňatí, teda v biologickej, psychickej a sociálnej dimenzii negatívny dopad. Je preto nevyhnutné dostupnými spôsobmi predchádzať tejto chronickej komplikácii., Aim: To monitor and evaluate the differences in the evaluation of monitored indicators of quality of life of patients with proliferative and non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (DR). Methods: The research sample comprised a total of 80 patients with DR. The first group consisted of 27 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and the second group of 53 patients with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The comparison was carried out according to the degree of DR. The data were collected using the standardized National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ-25) at the Ophthalmic Department of J. A. Reiman Hospital in Prešov. Results: In both compared patient groups, T-tests showed significant differences in all studied quality of life parameters: general health and vision, difficulty seeing far away and up close, the impact of the disease on achieving life goals, being limited in control over and in length of their activities, being limited to their homes, relying on the information provided by other people and needing help from others. Conclusion: In a holistic concept, i.e. biological, psychological and social dimensions, partial or complete loss of the ability to see due to diabetes has a negative impact on the quality of life of patients with proliferative DR.
