(3) Následně rozlišuji dva výkladové modely minulých a přítomných událostí: mechanistický a teleologický. (5) Na závěr uvádím důvody v neprospěch instrumentalistické interpretace Hegelovy filosofie dějin., The aim of this paper is to develop Hegel’s thesis that the philosophy of history is a theodicy. My interpretation proceeds by several steps: Firstly, I examine Hegel’s formulation of the problem of evil and show that his solution has two interconnected dimensions: theoretical and practical. Accordingly, it operates with two presuppositions: (a) history is accessible to rational inquiry, and (b) this kind of inquiry can reconcile a man with the actual world, including existent evil. My next step is to further develop the first presupposition in the context of the thesis about reason in history, and I analyse Hegel’s peculiar understanding of “reason”. I then distinguish two ways of explaining present and past events: mechanical and teleological, and I clarify why teleological explanations are unavoidable. Within the teleological I differentiate two models: intentional and functional. This distinction is motivated by two circumstances: (1) historical agents act intentionally, and in doing so (2) they also unintentionally actualize their own nature, i.e. freedom. Subsequently, I approach the thesis about the philosophy of history as a theodicy. I contrast Hegel´s own position to moralism and fatalism. The last section gives some reasons against an instrumentalist interpretation of Hegel’s philosophy of history., and Ivan Landa.
Nicméně i díky Doleželovu následnému bádání v oblasti fikčních a historických narativů se jedním ze současných použití této teorie stala její aplikace na otázky identity literatury a podstaty fikce a fikčnosti literárních děl., The theory of fictional worlds has developed, in the world context, since the 1970s and has, from its beginnings, been inspired by various logical and philosophical concepts. Today, in its fully established form, it offers concrete instruments and strategies suited to the solution of a wide range of literary-theoretical problems. The actual founding of the theory of fictional worlds is linked with the name of Lubomír Doležel, who later enriched its development with the key distinction between the extensional and intensional structures of fictional worlds. This distinction has enhanced the future instrumental potential of the whole theory. Nevertheless, due also to Doležel’s subsequent research in the area of fictional and historical narratives, one contemporary use of this theory has become its application to the questions of the identity of literature and the basis of fiction and the fictionality of literary works., and Bohumil Fořt.
It is often supposed that linguistic, conceptual and, perhaps, other kinds of intuitions are one of the most important tools used to test theories in analytical philosophy. On this view, intuitions thought to be rich enough to be applicable to all the data the philosopher has used in formulating and testing her theory; but specific enough to enable one to choose between competing theories; and transparent enough to be clearly relevant for the theory. In the light of certain examples from epistemology and philosophy of language, it is claimed here that these requirements are not met. Consequently, evaluation of philosophical theories on the basis of intuitions leads to unreliable and problematic results., Marián Zouhar., and Obsahuje poznámky a bibliografii
This article examines Taylor’s approach to the conception of civil society and attempts to interpret the relation of this approach to contemporary debates on the forming of European civil society. By way of introduction, Taylor’s interpretation of the medieval socio-political assumptions for the creation of the extra-political public sphere is presented. Next, there is a discussion of Taylor’s interpretational conception of the two most significant traditions of civil society which take their rise from a confrontation with European enlightenment absolutism - the traditions of Locke and Montesquieu. The author attempts to make sense of the way in which Taylor’s approach resonates with the concept of civil society in discussions about the presuppositions and forms of the creation of the European public sphere and trans-national (European) identities as two key forms of European civil society. In conclusion, the concept of the active border is presented as a key matrix of the conceptual constellation of the public sphere, identity and Europeanisation., Karel B. This review study analyses Martin Nitsche’s monograph devoted to Heidegger’s Contributions to philosophy (Beiträge zur Philosophie), primarily addressing the question of whether Nitsche succeeds in displaying the phenomenological character of the Contributions. It identifies a key step in Nitsche’s interpretation; that is, Heidegger’s shift from emphasising the specific entity of Dasein to emphasising the distinctive “phenomenological” or “relational field”, which is understood as an “ontological locality”. The study focuses on the question of whether it is possible, subsequent to this shift, to preserve the phenomenological character of (Heidegger’s) thought, and it arrives at a negative conclusion in this regard: Heidegger does not offer a phenomenological description - nay, he presents a conceptual, or perhaps even narrative, structure, in which he lays claim to the possibility of speaking from a principled position of (the experienced) “enowning”., Martin Ritter., and Obsahuje poznámky a bibliografii
Domnívám se, že tuto situaci je třeba řešit tak, že si zopakujeme, co má být cílem logiky a uděláme si pořádek v tom, co z toho, co se dnes pod hlavičkou logika provozuje, je k tomuto cíli schopno nějak skutečně přispět., Since, in the twentieth century, logic has come to essentially rest upon mathematics (just like a lot of other sciences) there began to appear many works which, under the title ´logic´, contained what is basically mathematics. There emerged them term mathematical logic (which was however interpreted in various ways, sometimes precisely to indicate a certain purely mathematical discipline resulting from logic, sometimes as the application of logic to the foundations of mathematics and sometimes also as logic undertaken by mathematical means). Some philosophers interesed in logic, but not specifically in mathematics, therefore began to use the term philosophical logic as a way of reinstating a balance between the philosophical and mathematical aspects of logic. There is a problem however in that this term very quickly acquired a whole range of different meanings which have essentially blurred what should be done under this heading; and, moreover, this situation made the very raison d´etre of logic, which grounds it in reality - viz. examination and critical evaluation of the rules which govern our argumentation nad, in a certain sense, our reasoning -, move to a periphery of logic. This situation should be resolved, I belive, by our revisiting the question of what should be the aim of logic, and by clarifying to what extent that which goes under the title logic can really contribute to this aim., and Jaroslav Peregrin.
Klíčovou otázkou přitom je, zda objekty s nekonečnou složitostí mohou být vhodnými modely fyzikální reality., The aim of this article is to critically appraise the philosophical reflexions of chaos theory which have been advanced in the texts of Stephen Kellert and Peter Smith. This aim constitutes, at the same time, a necessary propaedeutic to the actual investigation of the semantic view of theories in the context of chaos theory. The text itself is divided into three parts: (1) Transcendental impossibility, (2) Epistemological chaos, and (3) A new idealisation. In the first and second parts, the author begins by examining Kellert’s conception of the transcendental impossibility of certain predictions in chaos theory, subsequently he concentrates on the set of properties of the models of chaos theory (holism, experimentalism and diachrony), and finally on the character of the understanding which is arrived at by chaos theory (qualitative forecast, the uncovering of geometrical mechanisms and the discovery of order). In the third part, the author investigates the question of the character of the idealisation that reveals itself in the context of fractal geometry, constituting the backbone of chaos theory. The key question here is whether objects with infinite complexity can be appropriate models for physical reality., and Lukáš Zámečník.
Odtud Rorty přechází v oblasti poznání, ale i společenské kritiky bigotnosti, k dílu Johna Deweye a chápe ho v zásadě relativisticky. Článek jako východisko z rortyánského relativismu nabízí pojem „otevřené autority“ a nový filosofický pohled, stále však ukotvený v tradici amerického pragmatismu, na lidskou racionalitu., Richard Rorty, American philosopher (1931-2007) is considered to be one of the most influential thinkers of recent times. His main thesis centres on a critique of representationalism – of the ambition of classical modern philosophy to comprehend nature in the mirror of the human mind. From here Rorty then moves through the area of knowing, and also of a social critique of bigotry, to the work of John Dewey, whom he understands in a fundamentally relativistic way. The aim of this article is to determine the limits of Rorty’s relativism, and to show how we might preserve Rorty’s original critique of representationalism despite these limits. Mention is made of the intensive debates between the late-Rorty and his critics, especially in the area of the philosophy of natural science which, in Rorty’s work, is tellingly left to one side. The article offers, as a way out of Rortian relativism, the concept of “open authority” and a new philosophical view, still in the tradition of American pragmatism, of human rationality., and Boris Cvek.
