V průhledu nalevo loď., Vlnas 2002#, s. 280 č. II/1.13., and V době provedení opery byl Karlovi V. Lotrinskému udělen řád zlatého rouna. Obraz vznikl při příležitosti uvedení opery La conquista del Vello d'oro (vídeňský Hofburg, 8. 2. 1678) při příležitosti sňatku Karla V. Lotrinského a arcivévodkyně Eleonory Marie Josefy.

Ovidiův verš tu dostává dynastický vyznam, obnova lidstva je odvislá od obnovy habsburského domu, kamny hozené Deukaliónem a Pyrrhou/ Leopoldem a Markétou "mají tváře mužů" (dědiců). Všechny děti zrozené z kamenů proto mají na hlavě odznaky světské nebo církevní moci.
Olej na plátně (108,5 x 95 cm): plešatý stařec (vavřínový věnec na hlavě, psací brko za uchem, antikizující oděv, na krku zlatou medaili na řetězu) sedí u stolu opírá se o svitek s nápisem FINIS.CORONAT.OPVUS, na svitku je postavený kalamář. Levou rukou stařec na nápis ukazuje., Togner 1999#, s. 28, č. 3., and Brzy po dokončení díla byl Abbiati z biskupových služeb propuštěn, což mohl ironicky anticipovat tento obraz i jako jeho protěšek, Filosof II. Text na svitku "Konec korunuje dílo" odkazuje na velké dílo, za něž byl filosof doměněn slávou (věnec) a bohatstvím (zlatý řetěz).
Olej na plátně (109,5 x 95,5 cm): vousatý stařec (plášť přes hlavu) drží pod paží knihu a v rukou pásku s nápisem HONOR.VIRTUTIS.PREMIUM. Na stole před ním kalamář a pero., Togner 1999#, s. 30, č. 4., and Brzy po dokončení díla byl Abbiati z biskupových služeb propuštěn, což mohl ironicky anticipovat tento obraz i jako jeho protěšek, Filosof I. Nápis lze číst ve smyslu: sláva je odměnou za ctnost (schopnosti, zásluhy). Klíčem k interpretaci obrazu je patrně plášť přehozený přes hlavu na znamení smutku, na plášti zakrývající filosofův spánek je zlatá medaile, symbol jeho hmotného ocenění.
