The article concerns the problem of globalization in the Polish culture, or, to put it in a narrower sense – in the folk culture. It presents the traditional (19th century) and contemporary (20th–21st century) dimensions of culture, the transformations that have happened throughout the years, as well as the slow, yet unavoidable degeneration of tradition, which used to be the basis of life and moral code. The phenomena that are already common in the Polish folk culture – desemiotization and desacralization – being the result of transformations happening in the society and civilization, are now very distinct in every aspect of the life of Poles. The author's intention is not to call for the return to the magic vision of the world, but only to show the untypical vision of the Universe to the contemporary audience.

V ucelené formě předkládá strukturované informace o středověkém vývoji oblasti, která objektivně přímými archeologickými doklady příliš neoplývá. Práci z velké části tvoří archeobotanické, geochemické a archeometalurgické analýzy sedimentárních výplní potočních niv. ,This book provides a synthesis of science and archaeological data and historical sources in addressing issues associated with the development of high medieval settlement structure, with the beginnings of the exploitation of gold and later silver-mining in the area of interest. It presents structured information about the medieval development of the area, which objectively direct archaeological evidence aren't too plentiful. Study largely consists archeobotanical, geochemical and archeometalurgical analysis of sediments in the stream floodplains.

In the first decades of the 20th century there emerged two theatrical interpretations of Othello in Russia which were never actualized "on stage", but both appeared "on page". One of them belonged to Stanislavsky, a world-renowned stage director, and the other to Alexander Blok, a great Symbolist poet. Their approaches were the extremes: Stanislavsky developed his realistic method. Blok was overwhelmed with Shakespeare's symbolism. and Третье десятилетие XX века в России было отмечено появлением двух прямо противоположных театральных интерпретаций "Отелло", которые никогда не были осуществлены на сцене. Одна из них принадлежит К.С. Станиславскому (свой план постановки шекспировской трагедии в МХАТе он вынашивал, находясь в Ницце); другая – Александру Блоку, выступавшему перед актерами Большого драматического театра в Петербурге. Станиславский развивает свои принципы сценического реализма, Блок в трагедии Шекспира видит символические смыслы мистерии.

Předmětem předkládané studie jsou dvě vyřezávané slonovinové desky uložené v pokladnici katedrály v Miláně známé jako "Diptych z pěti částí". Na základě použité zlatnické techniky cloisonné je bylo možné zařadit do kontextu umělecké produkce Ravenny a určit jejich přesnější dataci. Tou je období vlády jednoho z posledních císařů Západořímské říše Majoriana (457–461) a pontifikátu biskupa Neona (450–473). Z detailní ikonologické analýzy navíc vyplývá, že by milánský Diptych mohl být dán do souvislosti s osobou papeže Lva I. Velikého a jeho snahou o prosazování výsledků koncilu v Chalcedonu konaného v roce 451. Objasněním vztahů Ravenna–Řím bylo nakonec možné za pravděpodobného objednavatele diptychu označit ravennského biskupa Neona I., jenž se svou objednávkou mohl veřejně přihlásit k hlavním cílům Lvovy politiky, k boji s monofyzitskou herezí a k udržení pevné hierarchie v církvi, jejíž jednota byla v této době vážně narušena. ,The ivory Diptych of Five Parts, deposited today in the cathedral treasury in Milan, occupies an exceptional position in the context of the Early Christian art. The book does not set its aim to merely subject the proposed hypotheses to critical thought. It is primarily an attempt to answer other questions such as the clarification of the artistic models, identifying the possible commissioner of the work, determining the reason for its creation as well as its art historical and cultural historical significance. The book is bilingual – Czech and English – and contains extensive visual supplement.

Kniha se zabývá srovnáním recepce autorů Beat Generation v USA a v Česku, a to ve dvou časových obdobích – v 50. a 60. letech 20. století a poté od 90. let až do současnosti. Zatímco samotné publikace Beat Generation autorů zůstaly nezměněné, kontexty těchto publikací byly zásadně odlišné: v USA byla díla autorů Beat Generation často redukována senzacechtivými kritiky na nevyzrálé vychvalování drog, sexu i násilí, v Československu naopak tito autoři získali přízeň čtenářů díky neobvyklosti svého literárního jazyka, kterou jejich próza a poezie představovaly na literárním trhu značně pokřiveném tezemi socialistického realismu. Tato studie tedy dokládá, jak mohou odlišné kontexty ovlivnit přístup čtenářů k literárnímu textu a jejich autorům, což ve výsledku pomáhá přeměnit daný text na odlišné umělecké dílo. ,The book compares the reception of the Beat Generation authors in the United States and the Czech lands in two different time periods: in the 1950s and 1960s of the 20th century and then from 1990s until today. While the works of the Beat Generation authors remained the same, the contexts of the Beat publications could not have been more different: American critics frequently reduced the works of the Beats to a juvenile promotion of sex, drugs, and even violence; for Czechoslovak readers, the works of the Beats sharply contrasted with the official literature which followed the doctrine of socialist realism. Therefore, this study comments on how different contexts shape the readers' approaches to a literary text and their author, which then in turn help transform said text into a different work of art.

Inscribing Difference and Resistance: Indigenous Women's Personal Non-fiction and Life Writing in Australia and North America examines the ways in which Indigenous women’s non-fiction published in the 1990s contributed to theoretical articulations of Indigenous feminism and to a historiographic counter-discourse which has intervened into the dominant narratives of nation-building in settler colonies. Personal non-fiction and life writing by Native American authors Paula Gunn Allen and Anna Lee Walters (USA), by First Nations authors Lee Maracle and Shirley Sterling (Canada), and by Aboriginal authors Jackie Huggins and Doris Pilkington Garimara (Australia) are analyzed in detail to demonstrate how a hybrid writing style, combining scholarly criticism with auto/biography and fictionalized storytelling, is used to inscribe Indigenous women's cultural difference, subjugated knowledges, transgenerational trauma from colonization, and resistance to forced assimilation. ,Kniha zkoumá, jak literárně-esejistická tvorba domorodých obyvatelek v USA, Kanadě a Austrálii, publikovaná v 90. letech 20. století, přispěla k formování teoretických východisek tzv. Indigenous feminism (indigenní či domorodý feminismus) a zároveň přispěla k přepsání dominantní historiografie v kontextu těchto osadnických kolonií. Rozbor textů Paully Gunn Allen a Anny Lee Walters z USA, Lee Maracle a Shirley Sterling z Kanady a Jackie Huggins a Doris Pilkington Garimara z Austrálie ukazuje, jak tyto autorky využívají hybridní, multi-žánrový styl, kombinující literární kritiku, historiografii, auto/biografické psaní a fikčně laděné příběhy, k literárnímu vyjádření své odlišné kulturní identity, transgeneračního traumatu z kolonizace a resistence vůči násilné asimilaci.
