1532. MHD stagnation point flow of Jeffrey fluid by a radially stretching surface with viscous dissipation and Joule heating

- The steady stagnation-point flow of an electrically conducting fluid due to convectively heated stretched disk in the radial direction is considered. Effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heating are present. Mathematical modelling is based upon constitutive relations of Jeffrey fluid. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into the coupled system of ordinary differential equations and then solved for the convergent series solutions. Numerical values of skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number are also computed and analysed.

1533. Microstructural strength of tidal soils – a rheometric approach to develop pedotransfer functions

- Differences in soil stability, especially in visually comparable soils can occur due to microstructural processes and interactions. By investigating these microstructural processes with rheological investigations, it is possible to achieve a better understanding of soil behaviour from the mesoscale (soil aggregates) to macroscale (bulk soil). In this paper, a rheological investigation of the factors influencing microstructural stability of riparian soils was conducted. Homogenized samples of Marshland soils from the riparian zone of the Elbe River (North Germany) were analyzed with amplitude sweeps (AS) under controlled shear deformation in a modular compact rheometer MCR 300 (Anton Paar, Germany) at different matric potentials. A range physicochemical parameters were determined (texture, pH, organic matter, CaCO3 etc.) and these factors were used to parameterize pedotransfer functions. The results indicate a clear dependence of microstructural elasticity on texture and water content. Although the influence of individual physicochemical factors varies depending on texture, the relevant features were identified taking combined effects into account. Thus, stabilizing factors are: organic matter, calcium ions, CaCO3 and pedogenic iron oxides; whereas sodium ions and water content represent structurally unfavorable factors. Based on the determined statistical relationships between rheological and physicochemical parameters, pedotransfer functions (PTF) have been developed.

- According to the positivists, all our knowledge is based on experience which is the foundation not only of every empirical science, but also of those disciplines that are usually considered to be a priori. The paper consists of two main parts. Firstly, a positivist concept of number defended by J. S. Mill is presented; secondly, it is shown how this conception can settle some objections coming from apriori-oriented philosophers. Mill’s theory of number is interesting for at least two historical reasons. It is developed in connection with a relatively rich scholastic logic which is why its methodology is similar to the contemporary philosophy of language; it is indispensable for an appropriate comprehension of the concept of number that was proposed by Mill’s most famous opponent G. Frege., Podle pozitivistů jsou všechny naše znalosti založeny na zkušenostech, které jsou základem nejen každé empirické vědy, ale také těch oborů, které jsou obvykle považovány za a priori . Příspěvek se skládá ze dvou hlavních částí. Nejprve je prezentován pozitivistický koncept počtu obhajovaných JS Millem; Za druhé, je ukázáno, jak tato koncepce může vyřešit některé námitky z apriori-orientovaných filozofů. Millova teorie čísel je zajímavá alespoň ze dvou historických důvodů. Je rozvíjena v souvislosti s relativně bohatou akademickou logikou, proto je její metodika podobná současné filosofii jazyka; je nepostradatelné pro vhodné pochopení pojmu čísla, který navrhl nejslavnější oponent ml. - Paper is aimed at small basins. It presents a brief overview of development of interests of professionals in them, and presents some ways of their practical use. Principle deepening of interest in small basins has brought the commencement of the global program of the cooperation of hydrologists - the International Hydrological Decade between 1965 and 1974. Within this Program there were clearly defined the importance and aims of research in small basins defined in two of their categories: experimental and representative. Experimental basins serve primarily for solving the problems of runoff formation and of its dynamics, using targeted experiments. Representative basins serve as a particular basin types, whose runoff regimes and relations to their physiographic properties are elucidated to that extent, that they can serve as an analogon for transfer of the gained knowledge to other similar basins, from which no information is available which is based on direct observations. For the time being, hydrological research in Slovakia is oriented into two experimental and two representative basins. Extension of the number of specialized basins is limited by available finances, particularly related to the up-to-date instrumentation. In the database of the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI), there are long term data series stored from 70 small basins of Slovakia, with the catchment area from 5 to 200 km2 . Under present circumstances, the urgent task is to process this basic information in the adequate extent. That would extend the knowledge upon the runoff formation in the small basins and upon its regime, and simultaneously also make possible the use of these data, after evaluation of their representativness, for the use in hydrological analogy. and Príspevok je zameraný na malé povodia; dáva stručný prehľad vývoja záujmu hydrológov o ne a predkladá niekoľko možností ich ďalšieho využívania v hydrologickej praxi. Zásadné prehĺbenie záujmu o malé povodia priniesol program celosvetovej spolupráce hydrológov, nazvaný Medzinárodná hydrologická dekáda v rokoch 1965-1974. V ňom boli jasne definované význam a ciele sledovania malých povodí, rozčlenených do dvoch hlavných kategórií, na experimentálne a reprezentatívne povodia. Experimentálne povodia slúžia predovšetkým na riešenie problémov tvorby a priebehu odtoku pomocou cielených experimentov. Reprezentatívne povodia charakterizujú určitý typ povodia, ktorého režim odtoku a jeho podmienenosť fyzicko-geografickými vlastnosťami sú dostatočne objasnené, takže poznatky z nich získané slúžia hlavne prenosu na iné, podobné povodia, z ktorých nemáme údaje podložené priamymi meraniami. V súčasnosti sa slovenský hydrologický výskum zameriava na 2 experimentálne a 2 reprezentatívne povodia. Rozširovanie počtu špecializovaných malých povodí je obmedzené finančnými nákladmi, najmä na moderné prístrojové vybavenie. V archíve SHMÚ sú uložené údaje zo 70 malých povodí (plochy povodí od 5 do 200 km2 ) s dlhodobými radmi hodnôt. Za danej situácie je nutné vyhodnotiť tieto základné údaje v primeranom rozsahu, čo rozšíri nielen poznatky o tvorbe a priebehu odtoku v malých povodiach, ale umožní zhodnotiť aj ich reprezentatívnosť v hydrologickej analógii.

- According to Fodor, robustness of meaning is an essential aspect of intentionality, and his causal theory of content can account for it. Robustness of meaning refers to the fact that tokenings of a symbol are occasionally caused by instantiations of properties which are not expressed by the symbol. This, according to Fodor, is the source of the phenomenon of misrepresentation. We claim that Fodor’s treatment of content and misrepresentation is infected with a couple of flaws. After criticizing Fodor’s theory of content, we propose a new theory of content which explains how misrepresentation is possible as a result of meaning-forming causation, and extend it to account for the property of robustness of meaning., Podle Fodora je robustnost významu základním aspektem záměrnosti a jeho kauzální teorie obsahu jej může vysvětlit. Robustnost významu se odkazuje na skutečnost, že tokenings symbolu jsou občas způsobeny instancemi vlastností, které nejsou vyjádřeny symbolem. Toto, podle Fodora, je zdrojem fenoménu zkreslení. Tvrdíme, že Fodorova léčba obsahu a zkreslení je infikována několika nedostatky. Poté, co kritizujeme Fodorovu teorii obsahu, navrhujeme novou teorii obsahu, která vysvětluje, jak je zkreslení možné v důsledku příčinných souvislostí, a rozšířit ji tak, aby odpovídala za vlastnost robustnosti významu., and Tevfik Aytekin, Erdinç Sayan
