In this work of comparative history, which was originally written as his dissertation at Lund University, the Danish historian Sune Bechmann Pedersen focuses on the creation of the meaning of the Communist past in Czech and German films since the Changes beginning in late 1989. His stated aim is to explain the relationship between the Communist past, post-Communist cinematography, and "history culture" (Geschichtskultur) in Germany and the Czech Republic. Rather than its analysis of the individual films, what the reviewer finds most interesting about the book is the author´s having placed the films in the context of contemporary debates. Despite the absence of television series in his analysis and his lack of knowledge about some important Czech publications on the topic, the author has, according to the reviewer, produced an interesting and useful comparative work that offers a fresh look from outside with a broad scope., [autor recenze] Cyril Poliačik., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
V obsáhlé recenzi autorka přibližuje hlavní zjištění, k nimž dospěl Jakub Rákosník ve své monografii, a přisuzuje jí celkově vysokou úroveň a výrazný přínos k odbornému zpracování tématu. Oceňuje na ní zejména komplexní přístup, promyšlenou konceptualizaci, vyloženou v rozsáhlém teoretickém úvodu a důsledně verifikovanou ve vlastním výkladu, výrazné propojení historické a právnické erudice, permanentní snahu o mezinárodní komparaci československé problematiky, smysl pro postižení kontinuity historických jevů, efektivní využití statistických údajů a celkově přehledný a srozumitelný způsob výkladu., In this long review of a work whose title translates as ‘The Sovietization of the Welfare State: People’s Democracy and Social Rights in Czechoslovakia, 1945–60’, the reviewer discusses the main points of this new monograph. On the whole she assesses it highly as a considerable contribution to our understanding of the subject. She praises in particular the comprehensive approach, the thoughtful conceptualization laid out in a long theoretical introduction and thoroughly tested in the author’s own interpretation, as well as his considerable linking of historical and legal knowledge, his continuous efforts to see the Czechoslovak question in an internationally comparative perspective, a keen sense of the continuity of historical phenomena, the effective use of statistics, and an overall clear, comprehensible method of interpretation., and [autor recenze] Lenka Kalinová.
Recenzent vysoce oceňuje syntetickou kvalitu jeho práce, precizně uplatňovanou metodologii a široké výzkumné pole, zahrnující tvorbu a reprodukci lokálních stranických elit, administrativní stranickou praxi a každodenní život členstva obou stran. Seznamuje přitom s hlavními poznatky autora o jejich fungování, k nimž patří specifický význam nacionálního faktoru v legitimizační strategii KSČ a značně důslednější průnik SED do běžného života svých členů., The author of the book, who works at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, wrote the social history of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany in the German Democratic Republic, covering more than four decades of their post-war road to power and rule. In doing so, he emphasizes a meticulously chosen mutual comparison and long-term historical processes. The reviewer highly appreciates the synthetic quality of his work, precisely applied methodology, and broad field of research including the formation and reproduction of local party elites, administrative party practices, and everyday life of members of both parties. The reviewer presents principal findings of the author concerning the operation of the parties, including the specific significance of the nationalistic factor in the legitimization strategy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the substantially deeper penetration of SED into everyday life of its members., [autor recenze] Marián Lóži., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
V tomto textu představuje Jakub Rákosník ústřední téma aktuálního dvojčísla Soudobých dějin, jímž je „Státní sociální politika v Československu v letech 1918–1989“. Tematický blok tvoří následující čtyři statě, které vzešly z projektu Grantové agentury České republiky „Formování a vývoj sociálního státu v Československu v letech 1918–1992“ a z projektu Grantové agentury Univerzity Karlovy „Proměny rodinné politiky od Protektorátu Čechy a Morava po lidovědemokratické Československo“ (článek Radky Šustrové)., Jakub Rákosník introduces the central topic of the current double issue of Soudobé dějiny, social policy in Czechoslovakia, 1918–89. The introduction is followed by four articles, three based on a research project funded by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, ‘The Formation and Development of the Welfare State in Czechoslovakia, 1918–92’, and one based on a project of the Grant Agency of Charles University, ‘Changes in Family Policy from the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia to the People’s Democracy of Czechoslovakia’ (the article by Radka Šustrová)., Jakub Rákosník., and Obsahuje bibliografii
This paper deals with the so-called transitional phase B2/C1, the nature of which is still being debated in the archaeological literature. The heart of the discussion is in its archaeological relevance, the dating, and its cultural, ethnic and social background. THe general consensus is that it dates to the time of Marcomannic wars. On the basis of new archaeological evidence and an analysis of some diagnostic forms found on the datable sites north of the Danube, it is suggested that the Late Roman phase C1a overlaps to a large extent with the so-called transitional B2/C1 phase, which began shortly before AD 180. A question arises of how to define the subsequent phase C1a and whether both phases in question can be seen as separate stages with separate chronological sequences. Controversy surround the proposed detailed division of the transitional phase between Early and Late Roman Period into two phases and therewith also a sharp chronological diffrentiation of the archaeological material from the late 2nd century and approximatively the first third of the 3rd century. The emergence of a specific archaeological milieu relatin to the transitional phase probably has an ethnic and socio-cultiral background. It shows strong infuences from the Roman provinces. Its characteristic features may be considered as a reflection of wars and their aftermath., Jaroslav Tejral., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
