Autorka sleduje, jaké vzpomínky si ženy deportované nacisty do Terezína uchovaly na pobyt v tamním židovském ghettu a jakými mechanismy se tyto reflexe – odlišné od vzpomínek mužů – utvářely. Středobodem jejího výzkumu jsou způsoby adaptace a vyrovnávání se situací, jež si ženy v Terezíně vyvinuly. Analyzuje genderově utvářené stránky každodenního života a proměn rolí terezínských žen i to, jak se promítly do jejich příběhů v podobě, v jaké je známe dnes. Jádro jejího výzkumu je založeno na vzorku třiceti životopisných rozhovorů pořízených v devadesátých letech minulého století s ženami přeživšími pobyt v Terezíně a doplněno dalšími dobovými prameny. Tyto ženy zažily deportaci většinou v době, kdy jim bylo mezi dvaceti a třiceti roky, patřily ke střední třídě, byly asimilované, emancipované a většinou hovořily česky. Podle zjištění autorky byly mladé české vězeňkyně v terezínském ghettu vesměs nuceny opustit individualistický životní styl moderní nezávislé ženy, který vedly před deportací, a zaujmout silně genderově určenou, pouze podpůrnou úlohu, soustředěnou na rodinu a kolektiv. Dále autorka zkoumá vztah mezi posunem v sociální úloze žen, vytvářením sociálních sítí a skupin a šancemi žen na přežití. Vychází přitom z předpokladu, že analýza postavení žen konkrétně a genderu obecně pomáhá identifikovat mocenské vztahy v rámci komunity, která vznikla z donucení. and Women’s memories of their time interned in the Theresienstadt (Terezín) ghetto are different from those of men internees. But what are the memories and what are the mechanisms behind them? At the centre of the author’s research is the adaptation and coping mechanisms of women in Theresienstadt. What was their daily life there? Which roles did they take on? The author analyses gender-specific aspects of Czech-Jewish women’s lives in the ghetto, focusing on how they influenced their narratives as we know them today. The core of the research is based on a sample of thirty biographical interviews from the 1990s, combined with various contemporaneous sources. Having experienced the deportation chiefly in their twenties, they are representative of middle-class, assimilated, emancipated, mostly Czech-speaking women. For the most part these young inmates had to abandon their ways of life as modern, independent women, and made a shift towards performing strongly gendered, supportive roles, focusing on the family and the social group. The author examines the relationship between the shift in this social role, the formation of networks and groups, and their chances of survival. The analysis of the position of women in particular and of gender in general seeks to help us to understand the power relationships within this enforced community.
Vstupní otázkou textu je, existuje-li specificky romská kriminalita. Ve své studii, která je primárně odpovědí na uvedenou otázku, autor danou problematiku nahlíží programově v perspektivě sociálně-kulturní, kdy jako „Romy“ chápe nositele specifické (tj. romské) kultury a romskou kriminalitu pak následně jako specifickou součást této kultury, respektive jako výsledek kontaktu nositelů této kultury s kulturou majoritní (zde české) společnosti. V této poloze je celý text kritikou všech – v české a slovenské populaci doposud převládajících – představ o tom, že kriminální jednání mají Romové/Cikáni vrozené („v krvi“). V úzké vazbě na centrální otázku se autor snaží odhalit příčiny romské kriminality. V základním plánu pak identifikuje dva základní typy těchto příčin – jednak příčiny vyplývající z determinace specifickou (tj. romskou) kulturní tradicí, za druhé pak příčiny vyplývající z adaptace Romů (v uvedeném smyslu) na současné podmínky české společnosti. Podložím celé studie jsou autorovy výzkumy prováděné jednak v tzv. romských osadách na Slovensku a jednak v tzv. romských ghettech v České republice., The main question of the article is whether there exists a specific Roma criminality. In his study, which primarily answers the above mentioned question, the author examines the issue from the socio-cultural perspective, that is he considers “Roma” as bearers of a specific (i.e. Roma) culture and Roma criminality as a specific part of this culture, or more precisely, as a consequence of the contact of the bearers of this culture with the bearers of the culture of the majority (in this case Czech) society. In this sense, the paper represents a criticism of all the conceptions of Roma criminality based on a presumption that criminal behaviour is part of the Roma nature (“it is in their blood”). In this connection, the author makes an attempt to discover the causes of Roma criminality. At a general level, he identifies two types of these causes: 1) causes determined by a specific (i.e. Roma) cultural tradition and 2) causes resulting from the adaptation of the Roma (in a given sense) to the contemporary situation of the Czech society. Kniha uznávaného amerického historika třetí říše patří ke klasickým pracím o německém wehramachtu. Autor se v ní zabývá především ideologickou indoktrinací Hitlerovy armády, sociálními vazbami uvnitř ní, válečnými zločiny a trestáním jejích příslušníků a konečně mechanismy sebeospravedlňování a poválečnou pamětí německých vojáků. Soud recenzenta o knize je výrazně pozitivní. and This is a review of the Czech translation of Hitler’s Army: Soldiers, Nazis, and War in the Third Reich (New York, 1992). The work, by the respected American historian Omer Bartov, is a classic among books on the Wehrmacht. In it, Bartov is concerned primarily with the ideological indoctrination of Hitler’s army, the social links within it, war crimes, and the punishment of Wehrmacht soldiers, and, ultimately, the mechanisms of self-justification and the post-war memories of German soldiers. The reviewer praises it highly.
Takotsubo kardiomyopatie je náhle vzniklé onemocnění charakterizované reverzibilní poruchou kinetiky levé srdeční komory. V typickém případě se rozvíjí následkem silného stresového podnětu a prezentuje se symptomy, EKG a laboratorním nálezem, které připomínají akutní koronární syndrom. Od toho se liší nepřítomností onemocnění koronárních tepen a ve většině případů nekomplikovaným průběhem s následnou velmi dobrou dlouhodobou prognózou. V kazuistice popisujeme případ 63leté ženy, u které se počátek onemocnění projevil fibrilací komor. Díky okamžité kardiopulmonální resuscitaci a následné odborné péči ve specializovaném kardiocentru, která mimo jiné zahrnovala implantaci implantabilního kardioverteru-defibrilátoru v rámci sekundární prevence náhlé srdeční smrti, se pacientka zotavila bez jakýchkoliv následků. Takotsubo kardiomyopatie je důležitou jednotkou v diferenciální diagnóze akutního koronárního syndromu. I přes dobrou prognózu, kterou se vyznačuje ve většině případů, ji nelze podcenit a zaslouží si náležitou pozornost a léčbu, která umožní předcházet případným komplikacím., Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is an acute syndrome characterized by rapid onset of transient systolic dysfunction of the left ventricle. Symptoms, ECG and laboratory findings resemble acute coronary syndrome, from which TTC differs by the absence of coronary artery disease. In typical cases, TTC is triggered by exposure to unexpected stress and the clinical course and prognosis are very good. We present a case of a 63-year-old woman, in whom the onset of the disease was complicated by ventricular fibrillation. The patient recovered without sequelae thanks to immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation and following care in a specialized cardiocenter, which involved also implantation of implantable cardioverter defibrillator to prevent sudden cardiac death. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is an important entity in the differential diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. Příspěvek mapuje počátky a rozvoj turistické výměny mezi Polskou lidovou republikou a Německou demokratickou republikou v oblasti Krkonoš, s přihlédnutím k turistickým poměrům na československé straně tohoto pohoří. Pro Krkonoše, které byly osídleny německým obyvatelstvem a těšily se tradičnímu zájmu turistů, znamenal historický přelom rok 1945, kdy se po nuceném vysídlení Němců naprosto změnilo národnostní složení obyvatel a Polsko nastoupilo cestu ke komunistickému režimu. Prakticky až do poloviny padesátých let se tato oblast pro zahraniční návštěvníky uzavřela. To se změnilo v roce 1956, kdy se v souvislosti s částečnou politickou liberalizací v zemi a s ohledem na očekávané finanční zisky prosadilo zpřístupňování Krkonoš (později i Sudet) a podpora turistického ruchu z Východu (zejména Československa) i Západu včetně Spolkové republiky Německo, s níž Polsko uzavřelo dohodu o slučování rozdělených rodin a jejíž občané pocházející z oblastí v Polsku toužili navštívit starou vlast. To vyvolalo nelibost vedoucích míst v Německé demokratické republice, která nicméně začala povolovat cesty svých občanů do dřívějších německých východních oblastí. Zatímco ve vztahu k turistům ze Spolkové republiky již koncem padesátých let v Polsku převážily politické obavy, takže byly jejich cesty opět podstatně omezeny, spolupráce s NDR v turistice se v šedesátých letech dále rozvíjela včetně zřizování společných turistických oblastí v Krkonoších (nedosáhla však takové intenzity jako mezi Československem a NDR, respektive Polskem a Československem). Autor na základě polského a východoněmeckého archivního materiálu nicméně poukazuje na politické a organizační problémy, které z toho plynuly. Podrobněji líčí nikoli ojedinělý incident z počátku šedesátých let, kdy skupina turistů z NDR v polských Krkonoších pobouřila místní obyvatele nacistickými projevy a způsobila pohraniční poplach svévolným výstupem na Sněžku, což bylo řešeno na nejvyšší politické úrovni. Organizační těžkosti spočívaly především v nedostatečné kapacitě polských ubytovacích zařízení a nízké úrovni služeb, což východoněmečtí turisté kriticky vnímali zvláště ve srovnání s poměry v českých Krkonoších. Nepodařilo se také dosáhnout toho, aby přítomnost turistů z NDR v Polsku pomohla k vytvoření obrazu „dobrého Němce“., This article charts out the emergence and development of tourism between the Polish People’s Republic and the German Democratic Republic in the area of the Giant Mountains (Karkonosze/Riesengebirge/Krkonoše), taking into consideration the conditions on the Czechoslovak side. For this area, which had been settled by Germans and was traditionally a popular tourist destination, the end of the Second World War was an historic turning-point. The subsequent expulsion of the Germans thoroughly changed the ethnic composition of the population and Poland set out on the path to become a Communist state. This area was closed to foreign visitors practically until the mid-1950s. That changed in 1956, when, in connection with partial political liberalization in the country and anticipated financial profit, the Giant Mountains area was made accessible (as were, later, the Sudeten Mountains) and state support was provided for tourism from both the East bloc (particularly Czechoslovakia) and the West, including the German Federal Republic. Poland signed an agreement with West Germany on the reuniting of separated families, since some West German citizens came from areas now in Poland and longed to visit their old home. Though East German leaders were at first displeased by this, they nonetheless began to allow their citizens to visit the erstwhile German areas further east. Whereas the authorities’ fears of the political repercussions of West German tourism predominated in Poland in the late 1950s, considerably restricting travel for them, collaboration in tourism with East Germany continued to develop in the 1960s, including the establishment of a joint tourist region in the Giant Mountains (though that was not as intense as between Czechoslovakia and East Germany or as between Poland and Czechoslovakia). Using Polish and East German archive records, the author nonetheless shows the political and organizational problems that arose from this. He discusses in greater detail an isolated incident from the early 1960s, when a group of East German tourists in the Giant Mountains of Poland outraged the local inhabitants with Nazi behaviour and caused alarm at the border by climbing Śnieżka Mountain without permission. This was then dealt with at the highest political level. There were organizational difficulties mainly in the insufficient capacity of Polish accommodations for tourists and the poor quality of services, which the East German tourists were critical of, particularly when they compared what was available in the Czech Giant Mountains. The presence of East German, and tourists in Poland did not help to create an image of the ‘good German’.
Vlastní téma autor uvozuje obecnější charakteristikou těch politických uskupení, která po intervenci armád Varšavské smlouvy v srpnu 1968 v Československu otevřeně podporovala zájmy interventů. Zdůrazňuje, že šlo sice o skupiny nepočetné, avšak po nějakou dobu na podzim a v zimě 1968 poměrně vlivné, neboť nejenže poskytovaly okupantům různé informace, ale díky svému napojení na sovětské kruhy mohly působit jako prostředek nátlaku na postupně sílící směr politického „realismu“, ztělesněný Gustávem Husákem. Stručně charakterizuje nejhlučnější z těchto skupin (pražskou radikální levici, reprezentovanou Josefem Jodasem a Eduardem Famírou, ostravské stalinisty a olomoucké ortodoxní komunisty, sestávající převážně z pedagogů tamní univerzity), přibližuje jejich cíle, postupy a největší akce (říjnovou schůzi v libeňské Čechii a aktiv Lidových milicí na pražské Homoli, listopadové shromáždění Svazu československo-sovětského přátelství v pražské Lucerně a několik dalších). Poté autor přechází k popisu činnosti radikální levice v Hradci Králové a tamním kraji, která dosud nebyla v odborné literatuře zachycena. Šlo o tři či čtyři schůzky a besedy s vojáky okupačních armád, které vyvrcholily takovouto akcí uspořádanou komisí pro práci s předválečnými a zasloužilými členy strany při Okresním výboru KSČ v Hradci Králové dne 17. října 1968. Autor líčí na základě archivních materiálů její průběh, naplněný radikálními hesly a proklamacemi, následné odmítavé ohlasy komunistických i jiných organizací a alibistický přístup k této záležitosti v hradeckém okresním výboru KSČ. Nakonec rámcově sleduje nástup „normalizace“ v okresní a krajské organizaci KSČ v Hradci Králové a nejbližší osudy hlavních aktérů uvedené kauzy., The author introduces his article with a general description of the political groupings that openly supported interventionist interests after the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968. He stresses that the groups were few in number, though after a while, in the autumn and winter of 1968, they were relatively influential. Not only did they provide the occupying forces with various information, but also, thanks to their links to Soviet circles they could act as intermediaries applying pressure on the gradually growing trend of political ‘realism’ embodied by Gustáv Husák. He provides a concise description of the most vocal of these groups (the Prague radical left, represented by Josef Jodas and Eduard Famíra, the Ostrava Stalinists and the Olomouc orthodox Communists, comprising mainly teachers at Olomouc University). He familiarizes us with their goals, approaches, and the biggest events (including the October meeting in Čechie, Libeň, and the meeting of the People’s Militias at Homole, Prague, and the November meeting of the Union of Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship, at the Lucerna, Prague). The author then describes the activity of the radical left in Hradec Králové and the surrounding region, which had hitherto not been discussed in the scholarly literature. This activity entailed three or four meetings with soldiers of the armies of occupation, which culminated in the kind of event organized by a commission for work with pre-war Party members and Party members of merit at the District Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party in Hradec Králové on 17 October 1968. Using archive records, the author describes the meeting, its radical slogans and proclamations, and the subsequent negative response of Communist and other organizations and the buck-passing approach to the matter, which predominated in the Hradec Králové District Committee of the Party.
