The short war waged in the autumn of 1962 between India and China for disputed territory in High Himalayas had a long-term devasting effect on the relations between the two Asian powers. The present first part of a study recapitulating the genesis of the dispute and subsequent road to military confrontation maps the origins of the problem in the colonial period of Indian history, with particular focus on changes in British cdecision making in the evolving international context. The one-sided furthering of territorial claims in the absence of a strong and determined adversary led, paradoxically, to parallel exdistence of several alternative frontier lines with no fixed and clearly demarcated border in existence along the extended Indo-Tibetan boundary. The second instalment will follow the developments in the dramatically changed conditions after the emergence in the 1950s of India and China as two strong independent nations., Jaroslav Strnad., and Obsahuje bibliografii
The new power configuration that emerged in the regions of South and East Asia in the wake of World War II and the following decolonization process introduced new players to the game of international politics; the roles played by them were orten inherited from the actors of the previous era. it was the general framework of the bipolar world system and the Cold War that represented a new element in traditional rivalries, and which had the capacity to exacerbate problems that had previously lain dormant. The genesis and escalation of the India-china border dispute, interconnected with the status of Tibet, which was viewed by China as part of her own territory and contemplated by India as a semi-independent buffer state, serves as a classic example. On the Indian side, the problem was further aggravated by the inability of the government to coordinate and fully control the activities of its iontelligence. The article follows the gradual development of the ambiguous approach of Indian foreign policy toward its northern neighbour and the silent Indian acquiescence of the involvement of the United States in the Tibetan issue up to the first bloody border clashes in 1959., Jaroslav Strnad., and Obsahuje bibliografii
V rámci štúdie som sa pokúsil poukázať na relevantnosť sinologických štúdii, nielen z hľadiska súčasnosti, ale aj z historicko filozofických dôvodov, keďže každá jedna ľudská civilizácia zahŕňa vlastné, aj keď často značne modifikované, ontologické dedičstvo, ktoré, hoci pochádza z obdobia formovania hlavných svetových náboženstiev a prvých filozofických škôl, dodnes ovplyvňuje myslenie a správanie jednotlivcov v rámci týchto civilizácií., In this study I have attempted to show the different perceptions of the term authority in the European philosophical tradition and in the Chinese philosophical tradition. In these investigations I am guided by the viewpoints of contemporary representatives of critical theory (the Frankfurt School) who attempt to incorporate the phenomenon of globalisation into their considerations of social processes. One of the most important states today is the Chinese People’s Republic which has a marked influence on world events. This study attempts to demonstrate the relevance of Sinological studies, not only from the point of view of contemporary times, but also from the historico-philosophical point of view. This is because each human civilisation has its own, albeit often highly-modified, ontological heritage emerging from the period of the formation of the main world religions and the first philosophical schools, and which influences the thought and behaviour of individuals in these civilisations up to today., and Ľubomír Dunaj.
The article traces the role and image of the wood and the tree in the culture of Ancient China as emerging from the transmitted literature of the Warring States period. Although this topic has already been touched upon in some previous studies, such as Mark Elvin's The Retreat of the Elephants, no comprehensive description based on at least nearly exhaustive systematization of respective data available to us in primary sources has been presented yet, especially for trees. In this paper, virtually all recorded modes of approaching the phenomena by the learned men of the Warring States are summarized and supplied with extensive reference to ancient texts. Apart from other issues, it clearly demonstrates that the skeptical stance to ancient Chinese love for nature and to the ecological ethos of traditional Chinese culture is highly justified., Lukáš Zádrapa., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Tento článek si klade za cíl objasnit na příkladu dynastie Jin (226-420) praktické a vysoce symbolické využití systému udělování šlechtických hodností jakožto užitečného nástroje diplomacie a zahraniční politiky, který odráží proměny postojů a strategií dvora vůči nomádům ohrožujícím jeho zájmy., The collapse of the central authority after the fall of the Han Dynasty inevitably led to profound transformation of many imperial institutions. The unstable political situation demanded a flexible handing of the traditional systems as well as an ability to redefine crucial institutional concepts relating to imperial authority in order to find new or additional sources of political legitimacy. One of these newly defined institutions was the system of titled nobility. With the growing importance of non-Han ethnic groups, whose military capabilities might make them both valuable allies as well as potentially formidable foes, the court tried hard to win their support through the bestowal of high noble dignities on their leaders. To a certain degree, these bestowals followed well-established Han practice, yet the whole system was much more institutionalized as a means of integrating potentially hostile forces into the realm ruled over by the imperial authority. The article focuses on the Jin Dynasty (266-420 A.D.) and documents the utility and flexibility of the practice, stressing the symbolic meaning of the bestowals as a useful means of diplomacy and legitimitazion, thus mirroring the immediate strategic needs of the court in its power struggle with rival nomadic regimes., Jakub Hrubý., and Obsahuje bibliografii
A new progonocimicid bug named Cicadocoris parvus sp. n. is described from the mid-Jurassic Haifanggou Formation at Daohugou, Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia, northeastern China. It differs from other species by being distinctly smaller, veins dSc, R1 and Rs run parallel to one another and are nearly evenly spaced on left tegmen, widest length of apical half/basal half of left tegmen is 1.1 and that of right tegmen is 1.0. Thus, there are at least three species of Cicadocoris (Progonocimicidae) described from Daohugou. All these species are relatively abundant in the Haifanggou Formation and are remarkable representatives of the early Yanliao biota., Jia-Qian Jiang, Di-Ying Huang., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Stále větší množství nově nalezených rukopisů z doby Válčicích států (Zhànguó, 453-221 př. n. l.) významným způsobem ovlivňuje naše poznání společenského, politického i intelektuálního života této doby. Článek představuje nově nalezený rukopis dějepisné povahy Xìnián, který neocenitelným způsobem poupravuje naše chápání některých významných událostí z doby vlády dynastie Zhöu (asi 1046-256 př. n. l.), a předkládá překlad a analýzu prvních čtyř kapitol rukopisu, vztahujících se k významným událostem z doby Západní Zhöu (asi 1046-771 př. n. l.), This article introduces the recently discovered Warring States period Xìnián manuscrpit. Following a brief summary of the most recently discovered manuscripts from the Warring States period, and a short introduction to the collection of bamboo slips acquired by Tsinghua University, the article discusses the nature of this unprecedented text, and provides a Czech translation of its first four chapters, which are mainly concerčned with events from the Western Zhöu period. The significance of the contents of these chapters for the study of early Chinese history is further exemplified in a detailed discussion following the translation, highlighting in particular the records on the migration of the progenitors of the Qín ruling house from east to west, the move of the Wèi capital from Kängqiü to Wèi-on-Qí, the regency of Gòngbó Hé and, most importantly, the process of relocating the Zhöu capital to the east. The identification of Qifäng, prince of Wèi, as the marquis Wén of Wèi is also discussed at some length., Ondřej Škrabal., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Čína tak musela vyvinout zvláštní a pružný způsob vlády, aby tyto citlivé oblasti nepřímo ovládla a zároveň nemusela na jejich kontrolu vynakládat zbytečně mnoho ekonomických a vojenských prostředků., The present paper outlines the origins, changes and the development of systems of indirect rule in Southwest China. The final stage in the development of this political mechanism was the so-called "native chieftain system" (ch. tusi zhidu), through which the central court managed the peripheral regions of its empire during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. The paper focuses on the development of these systems of indirect rule from the Zhou dynasty (11th century BC) to the beginning of the 20th century. The native chieftain system was a turning point in the history of the approach to indirect rule, which was implemented by the Mongolians in the 13th century. They took advantage of the Chinese experience with the "haltered and bridled prefectures system" (Ch. jimi zhidu) adding their own features. During the Ming and Qing dynasties many native chieftains (ch. tusi) were agents of the court, through whom the process of sinicization, and therefore colonization, was practiced. These processes were de facto copleted in the first half of the 18th century, during the role of the emperor Yongzheng. The paper further concludes that many of the features of modern national policy of the PRC were inherited from the political and geographical structure of the native chieftain system. Within the paper, relevant terminology has been translated into Czech in order to support future research initiatives., Jan Karlach., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Velmi diskutovaná je i úzce související otázka, zda se v Xi Jinpingovi vrací do čínské politiky postava individuálního autoritářského vůdce Mao Zedongova ražení., The article researches the rule of Xi Jinping's fifth generation of Chinese leaders, from their rise to power at the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China in November 2012 until June 2014. It describes some of the organizational aspects of the most recent power transition and examines the most important document of the Xi administration so far available to us, The Decision on Major issues Concerning the Comprehensive Deepening of Reforms, announced after the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in November 2013. The article further outlines the impact of the Decision, particularly the formation of several new leading groups and their allocated tasks. The text further addresses the question as to whether Xi Jinping's strong position signals the return to Chinese politics of the Mao-style individual authoritarian rule. The research draws on sources such as official documents, media statements and news articles, as well sas on several relevant articles., Ondřej Klimeš., and Obsahuje bibliografii
