The aim of this article is to analyse population development in the district´s area in the period of 1880-1910. The demographical transition continued in Bohemia until the end of the 19th century with changing populations and reproductive behaviour. The political district of Kolín belonged among Czech areas with fairly early asserted changes. That was because of the region´s economic maturity and also the closeness to Prague, from where these new tendencies of reproductive behaviour spread. The study focuses on the preparations, organization and the realization of the general census of the year 1857. Its goal is to present the way of ascertaining the data and the characteristics pre-defined in census sheets. The attention will be rendered also to other documents connected to the census, the specific processing and presentation of data for every settlement unit and the possibilities of their further use in the study of culture and lifestyle. By way of illustration the results of the census will be documented on the example of the city Trnava. and Miriam Mikušová.
Wedding announcements constitute a specific source for the study of social history. Their beginning can be dated, in the Czech Lands, to the first half of the 19th century. The present study focuses on the analysis of the engaged couples, their origin, social standing, nationality and religion. The present article focuses on the everyday life of married couples at the countryside in the „long" 19th century on the basis of the sources that arose at the Archiepiscopal Matrimonial Court in Prague shortly after the beginning of the 19th century. The case of Josef Houšek reveals the social and economic situation of the villagers and their in dealing with the highest ecclesiastical and state representatives. Besides, it renders possible a surprisingly close view of the everyday life of the married couple and their relatives. The husband and wife Houšek had to cope with the incapability of the wife Barbora to fulfil her „marital duty". This led to several attempts to annulate the marriage. However in the period between 1845 and 1858, for which the case was followed through the sources, these efforts were in vain.
