OBJECTIVES: The main aim of the study was to investigate the physiological and social needs of patients hospitalized with schizophrenia to uncover potential issues in these areas. METHODS: The relevant self-evaluating CANSAS questionnaire for physiological and social needs was used by nurses in a cohort of hospitalized schizophrenic patients undergoing rehabilitation before discharge from the mental hospital. RESULTS: Two hundred and forty-four patients (women N = 115) aged 18-58 years were involved in the study. Intimate relations, financial matters, treatment of psychotic symptoms, and sexual life were among the most pressing physiological and social needs in our study subjects. CONCLUSION: The results of our study should stimulate psychiatric nurses in their effort not only to detect but also address the problems of schizophrenic patients concerning unfulfilled needs. and J. Současný stav: Výzkumné studie prokázaly, že nejenom rozdíly v pohlaví mají vliv na zdravotní stav, ale též etnická příslušnost a společenská třída. Imigranti jsou zranitelnou skupinou, která je ve vyšším riziku řady onemocnění ve srovnání s majoritou. Sociální determinanty zdraví jsou významné při hledání příčin sociálních nerovností ve zdraví (Bates et al., 2009; Lindström et al., 2001). Cíl: Hlavním záměrem výzkumu bylo zmapování využití zdravotní péče imigranty. Metodika: Kvantitativní metoda byla realizována pomocí dotazování. Výzkumné šetření probíhalo v období leden až červenec 2012. Bylo kontaktováno 236 imigrantů ve dvou regionech (Jihočeský kraj a hlavní město Praha). Byli osloveni legálně usazení imigranti, ve věkové kategorii 18-65 let, vietnamské, mongolské a ukrajinské národnosti. Výsledky: Čerpání zdravotní péče imigranty bylo ovlivněno typem zdravotního pojištění, délkou pobytu, pohlavím a znalostí českého jazyka. Imigranti, kteří mohli vstoupit do systému veřejného zdravotního pojištění, čerpali zdravotní péči častěji než imigranti s komerčním zdravotním pojištěním. Závěry: Mezi opatření, vedoucí k odstranění sociálních nerovností a zlepšení situace imigrantů v ČR patří zvyšování jazykových znalostí imigrantů a umožnění všem legálně usazeným imigrantům přístup k veřejnému zdravotnímu pojištění., Background: Research shows that health state is influenced not only by gender but also by class and ethnic membership. Immigrants form a vulnerable group in comparison to the majority, more susceptible to a wide range of diseases. Social determinants of health play an important role in search for reasons for social inequality in health (Bates et al., 2009; Limdström et al., 2001). Goal: The main aim of the research was to map use of healthcare by immigrants. Methodology: The quantitative method used were interviews. The survey was carried out in the period from January to July 2012. 246 immigrants were interviewed from two regions (South Bohemian Region and the capital Prague). They were legally settled immigrants in the age group 18-65, of Vietnamese, Mongolian and Ukrainian nationality. Results: The factors influencing use of healthcare by immigrants are the type of health insurance, length of residence, sex and knowledge of Czech language.
