The genus Phaeochiton Kerzhner, 1964 is revised and P. alenae sp. n. from Mongolia is described. Differential diagnoses are provided for the genus and its three species. Illustrations of male and female genitalia, tarsus and pretarsus, photographs of the dorsal habitus, hosts, and distributional records of the species discussed are given.
The species of the mylabrine genus Mimesthes are revised and a new species (M. karooensis) is described from the South African Karoo. The systematic position of the genus is also discussed and an identification key to the species is proposed. Geographical distribution and habitat preferences, as well as other bionomic features, are summarised.
The Oriental helotrephid genus Idiotrephes Lundblad, 1933, is taxonomically revised. Species discrimination is based on male genitalia and female terminalia. Three species groups are recognized. The I. chinai group contains I. chinai Lundblad, 1933 (type species; from Sumatra, Borneo, and West Malaysia) and three newly described species; I. asiaticus sp. n. (from Vietnam, Thailand, and west Malaysia); I. yupae sp. n., and I. polhemusi sp. n. (both from Thailand). The I. maior group contains I. maior Papáček, 1994; I. meszarosi Papáček, 1995 (both from Vietnam), and I. hainanensis sp. n. (from Hainan, China). The I. thai group consists of two newly described species from north and northeast Thailand, I. thai sp. n. and I. shepardi sp. n. In addition, some features of biology and morphology of the ovipositor are also included.
The species of flea beetles of the genus Chaetocnema Stephens, 1831 occurring in Madagascar are revised. Four new species (C. cachani, C. hygrophila, C. malgascia and C. orophila) are described and five species (C. bamakoensis Bechyné C. confinis Crotch, C. fuscipennis Scherer, C. ganganensis Bechyné and C. picipes Stephens) are added to the Madagascar fauna. The following new synonymies are proposed: C. wollastoni Baly, 1877 = C. fraterna Harold, 1879 syn. nov. = C. monomorpha Bechyné, 1964 syn. nov.; C. pulla Chapuis, 1879 = C. tantilla Weise, 1910 syn. nov.; C. bilunulata Demaison, 1902 = C. sylvia Bechyné, 1964 syn. nov.; C. vadoni Bechyné, 1948 = C. alaotrensis Bechyné, 1964 syn. nov.; C. gregaria Weise, 1910 = C. insularis Weise, 1910 syn. nov. Lectotypes are designated for C. gregaria Weise, 1910, C. insularis Weise, 1910, C. similis Weise, 1910 and C. tantilla Weise, 1910. A key to all the species is presented. Line drawings of male and female genitalia of all the species are included. Ecological and brief zoogeographical data on some species are given.
Three new genera containing five new species of Lophopidae are described: Maana colorata, Maana erythina, Maana oriomoensis, Podoschtroumpfa magna and Pseudotyxis malimoenensis. A new key to the genera of Lophopidae is also provided, followed by a cheklist of the distribution of the genera and their host plants.
Two new species of Copris Geoffroy, 1762 are described and illustrated: Copris (subgenus incertae sedis) caobangensis sp. n. from Caobang Province (northern Vietnam) and Copris (Copris) sonensis sp. n. from Thanhhoa Province (central Vietnam). Copris (Copris) szechouanicus Balthasar, 1958 is recorded in Vietnam for the first time and data on the morphology, distribution and ecology of this species are given. A review of West Palaearctic species of the genus Eloeophila Rondani, 1856 is presented. Three species are redescribed, viz. E. czernyi (Strobl in Czerny & Strobl, 1909), E. laciniata (Edwards, 1928), and E. pusilla (Kuntze, 1920). A lectotype of the latter is designated. Eloeophila albofascia (Alexander, 1975) is established as a new junior synonym of E. apicata (Loew, 1871). Descriptions are provided of E. bipartita sp. n. (North Italy), E. delmastroi sp. n. (North Italy), E. lucasi sp. n. (South Italy and Sicily), E. maroccana sp. n. (Morocco, Spain), E. martinovskyi sp. n. (South Italy), E. minor sp. n. (Czech Republic, Slovakia), E. pectinistylus sp. n. (Spain), E. punctulata sp. n. [Cyprus, Greece (Crete)], E. sparsipunctum sp. n. (Bulgaria), and E. tigricosta sp. n. (Spain). A key to males of all West Palaearctic species is presented.
