Podložím celé studie jsou autorovy výzkumy prováděné jednak v tzv. romských osadách na Slovensku a jednak v tzv. romských ghettech v České republice., The main question of the article is whether there exists a specific Roma criminality. In his study, which primarily answers the above mentioned question, the author examines the issue from the socio-cultural perspective, that is he considers “Roma” as bearers of a specific (i.e. Roma) culture and Roma criminality as a specific part of this culture, or more precisely, as a consequence of the contact of the bearers of this culture with the bearers of the culture of the majority (in this case Czech) society. In this sense, the paper represents a criticism of all the conceptions of Roma criminality based on a presumption that criminal behaviour is part of the Roma nature (“it is in their blood”). In this connection, the author makes an attempt to discover the causes of Roma criminality. At a general level, he identifies two types of these causes: 1) causes determined by a specific (i.e. Roma) cultural tradition and 2) causes resulting from the adaptation of the Roma (in a given sense) to the contemporary situation of the Czech society. The empirical data come from research conducted by the author and his fiancée in Roma settlements in Eastern Slovakia and in the so called “Roma ghettos” in the Czech Republic., Marek Jakoubek, and Literatura
Feichtingerova kniha náleží do oblasti kulturně-politických dějin vědy a sleduje v časovém rozmezí téměř celého století jistou linii, jež tvoří jeden z podstatných rysů „rakouského“ (v teritoriálním významu habsburské monarchie) myšlení a kultury. The book under review, a cultural-political history of science and scholarship, covers almost a century of a line that constitutes one of the fundamental features of ‘Austrian’ ideas and culture (meaning those originating in the territory of the Habsburg Monarchy). This line - and also the approach that the author himself identifies with - is anti-essentialism in the sense of scepticism towards mental constructs that are presented as having captured the essence of certain phenomena. A key argument that the author then seeks to demonstrate is the affinity between this philosophical-scientific attitude and democratic thought and practice. He demonstrates this affinity in important figures, such as the jurist, legal philosopher, and political philosopher Hans Kelsen, the neurologist and father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, the philosophers Ludwig Wittgenstein and Ernst Mach, and the art historian Alois Riegl. The reviewer objects to what he sees as an overly clear-cut interpretation of this idea (the author fails to mention, for example, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, for he does not fit into this scheme), but he praises the book as an admirable attempt to thematize and interpret a vast amount of diverse material, and it may therefore be an inspiration for the way it integrates Czech ideas into the broader transnational context., [autor recenze] Vlastimil Hála., and Obsahuje bibliografii
The discussion study takes as its starting point the thinking, which Professor Šmajs and others presented in Filosofický časopis 6, 2013 on evolutionary ontology. The author shows an enduring aspect of evolutionary ontology: ontology as the product of human culture attains to knowledge that has the seeming character of objective truth - it thus expresses the true nature of the ontic order of nature. This is not, however, the usual nonsense of inconsistent philosophy. The author of the text identifies as lying behind the step Kantian and Hegelian strategies which make possible this shift from the order of culture to the order of nature. These strategies are (i) a sign of the grounding of Professor Šmajs´ ideas in early-modern thinking; and (ii) they are the cause of a strongly anthropocentric attitude, which unwittingly influences the system of evolutionary ontology. At the end of the study, the author points to the fact that it would be more appropriate for evolutionary ontology if its proponents were able to give up their early-modern argumentative approach, and thus rid themselves of their strong anthropocentrism. In this way they would be able to avoid the conceptual conflict which makes evolutionary ontology "frozen" from within., Radim Šíp., and Obsahuje poznámky a bibliografii
Recenzent srovnává dvě téměř současně vydané encyklopedické publikace klíčových pojmů, jež se vztahují k dějinám každodennosti českých zemí v éře lidové demokracie, respektive socialismu. Průšova Abeceda má populární ráz, sleduje především osvětový účel a chce své čtenáře pobavit, čemuž odpovídá nesystematický výběr a uspořádání hesel (včetně slangových a argotových výrazů), jejich stručné komentáře bez uvedení informačních zdrojů a zařazení četných dobových vtipů. V sedmi tematických okruzích obsahuje téměř dva a půl tisíce hesel, opatřených důkladným seznamem pramenů a literatury, jejichž zpracování většinou vyžadovalo primární výzkum. Dvoudílný slovník je uveden obsáhlou studií a recenzent jej hodnotí jako jednu z nejdůležitějších historických publikací k českým poválečným dějinám., The reviewer compares two encyclopaedias, published almost simultaneously, of key terms in the history of everyday life in the Bohemian Lands (Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia) in the period of the ‘people’s democracy’ or Socialism. Průša’s one-volume encyclopaedia, taking a popular approach, aims mainly to educate the reader, while being amusing, which is reflected in the unsystematic selection and arrangement of the entries (including the use of slang), brief commentary without citing sources, and the inclusion of numerous jokes from the period. By contrast, Franc and Knapík’s ‘guide’ is a proper encyclopaedia on the history of everyday Czech life in the period from the Communist take-over of 1948 to the Prague Spring of 1968. Based on solid methodology, it contains contributions from the editors (who are also the main authors) and about forty other experts. It contains almost 2,500 entries, arranged in seven thematic sections, based mostly on primary-source research, with a comprehensive list of primary and secondary sources. The two-volume encyclopaedia is introduced by a long article. The reviewer considers this publication to be one of the most important books on post-war Czech history., and [autor recenze] Jakub Rákosník.
Dlouhá tradice zhotovování plastik nahých žen (badárské neolitické postavy, plačky, „panenky“, „souložnice zemřelého“, sošky žen sloužící jako ex voto) z různých materiálů vyústila v Egyptě v raném 7. – pozdním 10. století n. l. k vytváření velmi stylizovaných figurek nahých žen. Jde o koptská hlazená kostěná řezbářská díla obvykle zachycující schematicky a přísně geometricky pojednaná obdélníková ženská těla. Všechny anatomické detaily jsou vyznačeny hlubokými rovnými zářezy. Nohy od sebe odděluje svislý zářez, přičemž jejich spodní část vymezuje vodorovné seříznutí. Dva kostěné idoly plodnosti neznámého původu jsou uloženy v české soukromé sbírce. Jeden idol (obr. 7) datujeme do 9.–10. století, druhý (obr. 8) do 8.–9. století. Oba představují názornou ukázku koptského lidového kostěného řezbářského umění. To později dosáhlo svého vrcholu ve fátimovském dekorativním umění 11. a 12. století., The long tradition of making nude female figurines (badarian neolitic figures, women mourners, „paddle dolls“, „female companions of the dead“, female ex voto statuettes) from various materials in Egypt led to the creation of the Coptic bone carvings representing an extremely stylized nude female figures in the period between the early 7th and the late 10th centuries AD. Usually, the cubic body of these polished figures is very schematically rendered and strongly geometrized. All the anatomical details are indicated mainly by means of deep straight incised lines. Legs are separated by a straight vertical line carved in the middle, feet marked by simple horizontal grooves. Two typical bone figures of unknown provenance, which we interpret as the Coptic fertility idols, are deposited in a Czech private collection, the first one (Fig. 7) being dated back to the 9th–10th centuries, the second one (Fig. 8) to the 8th–9th centuries. Both idols represent a characteristic example of folk Coptic bone carving art, which later reached its pinnacle in the Fatimid decorations of the 11th and 12th centuries., Břetislav Vachala, and Literatura
Cílem tohoto příspěvku je přednést některá témata a nastínit některé metodologické problémy současného psychologického výzkumu psychického vývoje osobnosti v různých kulturách. V části věnované některým úskalím metodologie zmiňuje článek otázku konceptualizace pojmů kultura a osobnost, problematičnost nároků na univerzálnost vývojových teorií vzniklých v euroamerickém prostředí a některé navrhované metodologické potupy, jak bez předpojatosti zkoumat vývoj osobnosti v nezápadních kulturách. Dále přibližuje různé kritiky stadiálních teorií vývoje a navrhované nové přístupy výzkumu, které mají vysvětlovat vývoj, ne pouze popisovat statické stavy v různých stádiích vývoje. V části věnované některým tématům výzkumu se kromě krátké zmínky o hlavních tématech (např. výzkum emocionálního, morálního a spirituálního vývoje) zaměřuje hlavně na pojetí Self a uvádí též současná vysvětlení kulturních rozdílů v pojetí Self, nový model C. Kagitcibaciové: autonomous-related Self, včetně socio-ekonomických vlivů na vznik tohoto pojetí Self. and The aim of this paper is to present some of the topics and some of the methodological problems of current psychological research regarding psychological development of personality in different cultures. The methodology section mentions the problems associated with the very concepts of culture and personality, the problematic claims to universality of evolutionary theories arising from the Euro-American environment as well as some of the proposed ways to study personality development in non-Western cultures without bias. It also gives some insight into various criticisms of the theory of evolution by stages as well as into some new research approaches proposed that aim to explain development, not only describe static states at different stages of development. The thematic section, after having briefly mentioned the main issues (eg. research on emotional, moral and spiritual development), focuses mainly on the concept of Self. It also presents an explanation of cultural differences in the concept of Self - the new model by C. Kagitcibaci: an autonomous - related Self, including socio-economic impact on the formation of this concept of Self.
The article traces the role and image of the wood and the tree in the culture of Ancient China as emerging from the transmitted literature of the Warring States period. Although this topic has already been touched upon in some previous studies, such as Mark Elvin's The Retreat of the Elephants, no comprehensive description based on at least nearly exhaustive systematization of respective data available to us in primary sources has been presented yet, especially for trees. In this paper, virtually all recorded modes of approaching the phenomena by the learned men of the Warring States are summarized and supplied with extensive reference to ancient texts. Apart from other issues, it clearly demonstrates that the skeptical stance to ancient Chinese love for nature and to the ecological ethos of traditional Chinese culture is highly justified., Lukáš Zádrapa., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Příspěvek zdůrazňuje souvislost globalizace světa a potažmo ošetřovatelství (migrace pacientů i zdravotnických pracovníků) a nutnost akceptace této skutečnosti v ošetřovatelském vzdělávání i klinické praxi. Základním zmiňovaným kritériem je vytváření kulturně bezpečného prostředí pro sestry i pacienty v podmínkách českého ošetřovatelského systému, který je stále ještě poměrně hodně etnocentrický., This paper highlights the globalisation of world and the internationalisation of nursing (patient and health care givers migration) which has to lead to being embedded into nursing curricula and also clinical practice. Accentuated is the need for effective and practical cooperation with individuals of different cultures and ethnicity. The main tool for interculturally competent health care professional becomes effective communication, based on knowledge of the individual patient‘s needs according to the different cultures and their satisfaction, but with an emphasis on the individuality of the patients and no the group affiliation. Presented is basic model and assumptions for the socio-cultural competence. The basic mentioned criterion is creating a culturally safe environment for nurses and patients in the conditions of the Czech nursing system which is still quite a lot ethnocentric., Andrea Pokorná, and Literatura
